The Hozugawa River Boat ride was definitely a top 4 highlight from our entire trip. The ambience was amazing and so much fun. I thought I'd feel claustrophobic on a small boat with so many people, but it ended up making it so much more fun! You really feel apart of the experience, even though mostly everything was in Japanese and I could only understand the odd Japanese word. The oarsmen were very nice and would try their best to say English words for us. It made us feel included. It is warned that you could get wet but the only time I got sprayed with water was when the oarsmen were purposefully spraying us! Hah.

Another wonderful video, giving me sentimental tears in my eyes of recognition, especially the boat trip! But to see it in a different season is so nice. I was there in early June, a totally different sight. The autumn foliage is so beautiful, need to go back in autumn! Thanks for making that video!

I want to go back in May to see the fresh green foliage! But the autumn foliage is definitely amazing. I somewhat assumed that everyone just had filters on their photos/videos. It couldn't possibly be that beautiful. I was wrong! Thanks again for watching.

This is such a great video! I am also going to Kyoto in November so definitely excited to see the autumn foliage from the boat viewpoint! Just wondering where you rode the boat and where did it drop you off? I saw another video where they first road the Sagano Romantic train and hopped on another train for the station where the boat leaves and then ended by the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. Was this also the same in your case?

I noticed while writing out the instructions below that the Hozugawa Boat Ride is now closed. Tragically, it looks like a ship capsized in March and it resulted in two fatalities. They are not running during the investigation. It's unsure if it will reopen but they have a tentative date for June.
      Below is what we did:
The original plan was Sagano Romantic Train >> 5-10min bus to the boat launch >> Boat >> Arashiyama. But you can only reserve tickets for the Sagano romantic train in Kyoto so by the time we got there the tickets were sold out for the day I was planning on going. Its very popular during the autumn season. We just took the regular train to near the boat launch and then walked over.
This is the station you catch the Sagano Romantic train. You can also catch the regular train here.

This is the station that you get off of the Sagano Romantic train. There's a regular bus that goes straight for the boat launch, usually its timed so it leaves just after the train arrives.

      Here is the boat launch.

And this is where it drops you off

This was shot November 15th. Our full trip was from November 9-24. I found that in the cities the fall foliage wasn't yet at its prime, but in the mountains the foliage was amazing.

I have bought tickets to visit 1st to 3rd of November but im afraid i wouldnt be catching those vibrant autumn colours.

This was November 15th, you might get lucky and see some red! But I'd recommend going into the mountains if you want to see autumn foliage in the early weeks of November. All the cities seemed to be about 2 weeks behind the mountains for autumn foliage.
