My lawn leveling rake was placed on back order and I have 9 tons of sand to throw down before the weather gets HOT. So I grabbed some 2x4s from lawns and scrap wood from the garage and made a 4x4 foot lawn leveling drag within 30 minutes.
You'll need:
Screws
2 Eye Hooks
1 4x4 cut in half
3 2x4s cut in half
1 Rope
1 carabiner
Credit to @JasonSeiberlich for the design concept.
This thing is easy to make just watch...

When your baby girl asked to play in the sand it flooded my memory of days like that. My girl is leaving for college and I can't even tell you how much I miss those little voices and simple days we used to share. Enjoy every minute dad it goes by in a flash. Good video.
Thanks for sharing that, Steve. I once read the terrifying fact that you'll pick up your child for the final time, and you won't even realize it. So I try my best to enjoy the moment the best I can.
Excellent DIY hack. I am trying to figure out how to cover grass seed after spreading, do you think this unit you built would work?
I have one acre, raking it in by hand is not an option.
Hmmmm. I'm not sure. Are you spreading on bare dirt?
Yes I will be. Cleared the land, now ready for seed@@MatsDawson
@@hockeynutt9434 ya, I think that would work pretty well or a weighted chain link fence.
"Hey Daddy can I go on the sand?" 😆🥰
Lol
if you did this again, would you change anything? planning to build one as well
Good question, if anything I would build it maybe 30 percent wider. It worked really well for my purposes. I kept it for future use if that tells you anything
Hey, awesome job. What type of sand did you use
USGA sport sand.
Clever DIY - I'm thinking to use a relativity newer pallet with some weight on it. Thanks for posting and sharing - all the best and God Bless. 🙏❤🇺🇸
I wish you luck. Let me know how it works.
Have you tried using a pallet?
No, my concern was durability and weight. I did an absolute ton of going around to spread the sand out
Hi. Would this only work if the wood planks are totally flat?
I would say mostly flat is fine
Get em Matt!
Ohhh yeah
Maybe add some weights on that pallet?
Ya I ended up taking my concrete drain pad and putting it on. It worked fine without but worked a bit better with the weight. Thanks for dropping a comment!
Looks like a shipping pallet.
Not to far off in dimensions but overall heavier and more durable as it rides the ground.
I would say it was a success too. Nice work. I want to know if I can play in the sand too 😁
How much horsepower is your lawn mower?
@@donaldsmckenzie8227 22hp
@MatsDawson Great...I have the same
..Briggs and Stratton 22hp
Thank you
I don't have any issues with bogging down when I do this.
I havent had the balls to use 100% sand yet. Maybe next year.
I had them and now that I've done it.... I'm scared lol
@@MatsDawson and now you don't ? 🤔😂
@@Striperman yup balls are gone now I'm just nervous lol. It'll be fineeeeee
You should have let your daughter play in the sand. Leveling a lawn is so much less important than letting her have fun on a sand pile.
Haha you are 100 percent correct and both of my kids had a couple of weeks of playing on the sand pile. We also moved some that sand into their sand box. So I'm with you 100 percent. We have the same approach to the lawn, it should be for fun and play. I appreciate your comment!!
It’s all fun and games til the kids playing with kitty roca
Lol
I dont recommend it those piles are a cats favorite litter box
Shut up Karen , go back to playing in your weeds and stickers . Use men want green grass
So you made a pallet drag! Why not use a pallet?
This is about 4x heavier than a pallet
Not everyone has a pallet lying around
Plus a pallet isn't heavy enough.
Just put weights on a pallet
