    Looks great, Do you have a materials list? How did you determine how high the tripod should be and how long the ridge beam was?

    I can see that coming in handy in a lot of places. Provincial Parks etc when car camping, sometimes appropriate spacing between trees is a challenge. Good job man!

      Woodswalker 1965 eno hammock with large chinook tarp in porch mode at the beach with large hobo stove will be next level this summer! Can’t wait. Cheers brother! 😊👍

      Woodswalker 1965 there is a variation of the turtledog you can make from ex army MOD tent poles that can be sourced fairly cheaply on ebay if weight and excess bulk are a concern. Although wood is heavier and more stable in use due to its mass it is also prone to rot if left out long enough and is bulky and heavy to transport. This construction is excellent for garden use and storage in the shed although i would suspect it is not a good traveller due to the weight and pole lengths.

    Nice one brother! I made one too. Used cedar logs I sourced from the bush and it works great.
    Made one for my wife too. Mine are more primitive, just tripods linked by a 2x4 😆
    Be well

      Forestwalker111 that sounds nice! I would have preferred to do it more like your. I just used up materials that i had from my old teepee. Great to hear from you brother. Hope you and your family are well. 😊👍

    Hi there Mike! Q: What is the length of your top support beam? Is it 10 feet?? This is the kind of project
    that I would surely like to make!

    • @MikeProut
      @MikeProut  4 года назад

      Actually the top support beam is 13 feet long. I made it long enough to accommodate my 12 foot long hammock tarp. Enjoy your project! You can tailor it to your own specifications. Good luck 👍.

    Some people mention putting a rope through the three legs so they don't open too far, but I never see any. Do you do that?

    • @MikeProut
      @MikeProut  4 года назад

      Yup. Stops them from spreading.

    are you like every Turtledog stand maker and didn't stop just one stand? 😂 I caught the bug and made two and might possible make another this year? 3 hammocks = two Hennessy & one Dutchware. Thanks for sharing. Btw mine was with 14 foot fence post=two sections...just in case I gain weight😂 I have a video somewhere here too.

    Nice looking stand! Is there a function for the extra dowel attached to the top 2x4? Have you seen any designs with the top pole in 2 pieces for easier transport?

    • @MikeProut
      @MikeProut  5 лет назад +2

      photovore099 i actually tried the two piece top pole but the metal bent as soon as i sat in the hammock. I used the 14 foot 2x4 and it flexed in the middle. The large dowel was kicking around the garage so i used it to stabilize the 2x4. It was a fun project to use in the backyard.
