So happy Brand and co have rules now.. When I finish my current Spearhead work they're next up.. I don't have a wilderfiend, but I do have lots of models that might proxy well
Ok, I finished watching the video. I really like the figures-finally, we have a very good sculpt to replace the Chaos Marauders. And the cherry on top is that they come with their own faction, so they can be played separately from other Slaves to Darkness warbands. My main thoughts and concern: the Favoured mechanic. Looking at the data cards, they seem more like a horde warband than an elite one, but their killing mechanic is too difficult for them to execute effectively. The only "killing machine" unit they have can't even benefit from it because it's classified as a beast. And by the time you manage to get everything working, you're already in rounds 3 or 4, and the game is almost over by then. If you try to play them as an elite force, other warbands do the same but better and in a simpler way, for the same amount of effort. If we look at the Askurgan, who have a similar issue, they aren’t seeing much play either. I feel we might be looking at a similar situation here. Anyway, I'll build one for fun, but it's a big issue that the entire warband's strategy relies so heavily on constant killing. A excellent video as always.
I think for the favoured mechanic specifically, you kind of have to pick one or two fighters that you are going to focus on and work on them specifically instead of going in with the idea that a whole bunch of fighters will be favoured during the game. My money to start with is on Singri; She is very easily favoured by turn 2 (oath to murder t1, attack/attack any chaff at 18" range, turn 2 Uncanny shot, first attack to kill at half dice, become favoured, second attack at full dice). After that its really a toss up between whichever actual hero you bring. The regular warqueen doesnt need to be favoured at all under most circumstances so that leaves like Tanari or Nadja or something similar. You still get doubles back for becoming favoured, and favoured fighters dieing with the reaction so on t1 there isnt much of a reason not to just throw oath to murder on as many guys as you can, especially considering its unlikely youll need to use them for much else. I think in terms of listbuilding, people will fall in one of two camps; Either go wilderfiend in which case youll kind of be stuck at 7 guys thanks to its 300 point cost, or not take it and run a more hoard style game with more marauders and the warqueen to leverage off those extra move actions.
I've bought some, hopefully they'll get built and painted at some point... It's kind of frustrating that a lot of their capabilities seem dependent on triples though, most of Gunner's Oathbound look cool in isolation but taking more than one or two of them is impractical because they all really want ability dice to shine.
They kind of remind me of Order of Azyr in that respect. More of a toolbox of triples that you can use so the skill check for the warband will be managing those triples along with your bathed fighters
Oh - they seem fun! Kinda expensive though. In Sweden I would need Barnds, Wilderfind + a regular box at like 1500 sek, 100 GBP? Hmm maybe I could convert the chaff from Darkoath Savagers and 3-d prints...
@@OffMetaMusings I hope you are right, might proxy before I buy. But I do love the models! Light cav in Warcry just tend to be bad, especially the shooty ones. Until now!
I think that they could be real good; You are probably going either the Wilderfiend and running like 7 guys or sans-fiend and putting 9-10 guys on the table... though the Wilderfiend is so cool to pass up.
Warqueen Tanari with my chaos legionnaires's reaction that gives her a free move action...oooh...chaff blender, the one thing missing in my team (Lord of Hubris is more of a character killer).
I mean, there are definitely worse things in the game for the Master Moulder to give extra actions to... I think Darkoath might be one of those warbands that works better with no or limited allies due to the amount of good triples they have but maybe that list would look something like this: ``` ---------- Warband Roster 930pts | 8 fighters - Darkoath Warqueen (155pts, Hero) - Master Moulder (125pts, Hero) - Darkoath Wilderfiend (300pts) - Darkoath Marauder With Spear (70pts) - Darkoath Marauder With Spear (70pts) - Darkoath Marauder With Spear (70pts) - Darkoath Marauder With Spear (70pts) - Darkoath Marauder With Spear (70pts) ---------- Generated on Warcrier.net ``` 70 points to play around with combinations of characters and marauders (singri is 230 blessed but not a hero unfortunately) so youll probably be sitting on or around the 7 fighter mark.
Hi and thank you for all you do for this game. Can you explain me something please ? The Darkoath Warqueen and the Darkoath Chieftain have different costs : 175/155 with Slave to Darkness and 155/140 in Darkoath. WTF is this ? Don't understand ... Thank you.
Yeah sure, they are two different fighters with the same mini and name but in different factions with different abilities. I'm pretty sure it's because Slaves to Darkness players would riot if they started cutting things out of that faction. Same with the marauders :)
@@OffMetaMusings - Dang that’s too bad! That doesn’t make sense to me, either…. Different factions. I wonder if GW is phasing out the DO Savagers! I just bought them, and they weren’t cheap (US based). Doesn’t matter, I can still use them as long as there’s rules. Just as an opposing force to play. Thanks!
I mean, it *is* a free quad they get XD Though it requires a favoured fighter to actually die so that would represent a pretty significant investment in time.

Hyped for this🔥

Great overview. No Battle Trait for Darkoath? Or did I miss that?
No battle trait unfortunately :(
Never wished the Godspeaker was a hero more
Hah that would be great

Also - Who EVER thought we would get a great horse archer profile in this game? Just does not compute! :-D
She is probably up there for one of the best archers in the game period for her points

Unfortunately not. They are totally different factions

@@Tombonzo They aren't. Savagers are the only 1e chaos warband that was not moved to Legends in AoS 4e.
It's a bit annoying, that the quad they have access to, uses ability value, but they only get a quad 1 from their reaction.
