The faux finish was called vaneerite and it was sometimes painted directly onto the woodwork and sometimes a printed paper finish that was glued onto the woodwork. It is TOUGH to sand off or work with! But the furniture beneath is often fascinating to study for the way it was put together and created. Love your recognition of this BORAX Furniture piece!
Thank you great to know the name vaneerite - I have seen it on many pieces and quite a few recently. I agree the discovery of what it under can be quite a treat I had one with the most wonderful 'rainbow' poplar one time. I knew someone would spot the white dust lol. The house I picked this up had some of the worst termite damage I have seen the floors felt like they could give way any moment. So all the furniture got a major DE dusting before I let it inside just in case.
Thank you Angela, with our little break I have quite a few projects in the bag ready for future videos, including the most junked up trashed piece of furniture I've ever purchased.
Came out very lovely, what's great about depression era furniture is like you said it was made to be painted so that was thought of in the design process, so you can really play around with these pieces with colors and patterns and stamps etc more so than with most other furniture and have it come out very good looking each time.
I was lucky to pick up about 8 depression pieces from the same auction last summer. I have really played around with all sorts of finishes on them great pieces to work with like you say.
Was not sure about the red at first. In fact my initial reaction was OH NO! lol After adding all the other finishing touches to the piece, it looks really really good. The end result is not going to get as much intertest as more neutral pieces, but in the right setting it will be a little show piece and a keeper.
I love the way the first brush stroke of red looks on the video so vivid but with all the extra touches it really builds into something quite special, its a keeper for me for sure now.

It's glorious. It looks like leather. I love the gold. You did such a great job preserving all the pieces. Well done.
I fully expected to have to replace a lot of the wood on this piece, glad I got to it in a time to bring it back to life.
Very cool! The stamps were perfect ❤
I love it! The red is awesome.
Most excellent!!! You made it look better than it probably ever has!! LOVE IT!!!
Thank you so much
You’re so creative- I would never have imagined this outcome!
Thank you - I have wanted to do a red and gold piece for a while now and when I saw the lines on this piece I knew this was the one to do it on.
She's a beauty! I love it 😊
So different! Like fabric! Luxurious! Thanks so much for sharing

@@RIA well that one is certainly going to be an educational video. 😀
The chest is perfect for that room. It's beautiful.
Thanks its just a super cute room now, worst of all somehow the dog got the idea its his room!
@@RIA LOL my dog thinks the couch is his and gets mad if someone sits on it besides me.
Very nice. I really like the style and colors you picked.
Thank you I am so happy how it turned out - Ive wanted to use that stamp for a while and it just worked so well.

My goodness what a fabulous transformation! When i first saw the red paint i was a bit sceptical but this looks fabulous! Well done!
Thank you, I have wanted to do a red piece for so long - I agree it really looked to much to begin with but comes together so well.
Love this!
This piece is lovely Ria 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you, I think I will hold on to this one for quite some time now.
Wasn’t sure about the red but it turned out great! It’s sooo pretty!
Thanks Kim that red changes quite a lot from those first brush strokes I'm so happy with the end result.
That may be my favorite red.
I love it too - I painted my front door that color too!
When I first saw the red, I was not so sure. But it is elegant and I can see the Kacha vibes
Thank you, thinking about where this piece came from it makes me smile to hear someone describe the result as elegant.

I thought you said that aqua bedroom set in your shop was for your bedroom?💙💙💚💚
I am loving that aqua set its in the dressing room - I start my day in there with a coffee getting ready for working in the basement.
@@RIA Me too, lol I been keeping my eye on it. It is beautiful.
How lovely and folk arty.❤
