This seems like waaay too many things to think about. I recognize that lower body needs to initiate downswing but there has to be a less confusing way to do it. Squat down, unhinge wrists, push off/up, turn hips…holy moly.
I could see Matt in the video after LC’s explanation get to the top of his swing and then think, what am I supposed to do next again??
Keep the content coming. It is great, but for me, I would need to learn these moves in a different fashion.

This exactly what I've been working on. For 30+ years I've been pulling with my arms and now with the ground force data we know you need to use your legs and core to generate an efficient golf swing. It's very similar to Dr Kwon's teachings. He's more about the flow to get your body to work properly.

First and foremost let me say how cool it is to get content from my favourite left handed golfer.
This specific video was also really informative for me because I have always (for 37 years) created all my speed through the ball with my hands and arms. Got something to work on now and even at nearly 60 years of age, this game keeps me enthralled and interested and I am always trying to improve. If there is any way I could still play off scratch at age 70, that is the goal and videos and techniques like this might make it possible.

This really clears up a few issues I was having trying to squat and rotate. I was still pulling my arms down when trying to unhinge the wrist angles in downswing. Pulling as away from chest and chunking it. Think I’m starting to understand the necessity to do the drills very deliberate. With Larry explaining the purpose of feel versus real. Plus Matt your ability to put instruction into practise and demonstrate Larry’s instruction so well. It’s all making sense
Absolutely love this content. Cheers Matt and Larry

Great idea, let's move our hands at the golf ball in the downswing to produce a shank. Lovely. If you want to be stuck and late on every swing then this is the drill for you. Please go and watch one of the few golf teachers on youtube who actually knows what they're doing; that's Mike Malaska. This move will not work unless you want to hit shanks for a living. Try it for yourself. In golf you create speed with your hands and arms just like every other sport, the problem is most people don't use their hands and arms properly in golf. The body is involved in the golf swing but it is by no means the major speed producer. If you want to try and force the mechanics of this drill into your swing then by all means go for it; you'll look more like a broken old man than an athlete. If anyone wants to get better at golf they need to learn how to chip and pitch, getting good at releasing the club at slower speeds. Once you have that you you then start to understand where impact is and you can make full swings because you know how to hit the ball properly. No drill of this nature will ever fix anything if you haven't learn the basic skills first.

The conversation around separating your lower body-- and using your lower body to pull your torso around and generate power-- reminds me a lot of when I coached discus for a brief period of time. A lot of mechanical similarities when it comes to pulling your hips through before your arms and shoulders rotate around.

Arms are "active" in the back swing (hips and legs are "passive"). Reverse that for the downswing: Arms are completely "passive" and legs/hips are very "active." Firing those hips will shallow the club. Activate that lower body before the club even reaches the top of the back swing. Well, those thoughts work for me. Might be totally useless to someone else.
