Ooh, I liked this one! I'd love to see a more advanced version where you take this and start pushing it towards being more complex/screen accurate. Great job.
I'm pretty sure we can blame Blender Guru for the fact that at least half of the people who use Blender call a single vertex a "vertice." 🤦 (great fun and fast tutorial, by the way. 👍)
this comment is for all your tutorial videos and i want to thank you very much, you are helping us a lot, you are saving us many years of struggle , please dont give up helping us
This is exactly the type of video I wanted do, so many tutorials start with making complex scenes with multiple objects. your approach of just doing a simple model first was so much easier for me to digest and focus on the base 3d modeling tools. It was also very helpful that you choose a geometric ship because my whole goal is make a TRON like ships and put then into Unreal Engine.
Another awesome video, I especially liked how you described what normals are. I've watched like 5 tutorials on modeling, mostly modeling characters and a big chunk of the donut one and nobody explained normals at all. This was the perfect length tutorial and everything was explained so well. Thank you!
Loved the pacing of the video. I feel like most tutorials series I would have to watch a few hours worth of videos to learn what I learnt in this 20 minute video.
Im just starting out in blender and have to say this was a very informative video for me. I have some very basic modeling experience from HS in the late 90s, but may as well be a beginner. This video had me pausing to write down all your tips because there were so many. Definitely subbed, thank you!
You are a good teacher. Thank you for your short , simple and crisp approach and thanks to avoid unnessesery blah...blah.... I ve learned many things from this tutorial.
I learned a lot of helpful things from this, thanks for making this tutorial. Even if it's in the the paid version of the tutorial, for this free version I might recommend making at least a quick mention of how one may want to use edge loops for the subdiv for any beginners watching in case that's a question that pops into their head (I still consider myself a beginner but a friend informed me about edge loops).
I'm a veteran in Maya, so as soon as I opened Blender of course I was trying to use all the Maya hotkeys and workflow for everything and just watching Blender do all sorts of crazy things haha. This workflow is so much faster and makes so much more sense to me. It feels more like you're sculpting an object rather than meticulously moving vertices, edges, and faces individually. You can definitely do everything you are showcasing here, but there are more steps in between. Blender seems like its going to be so much faster for me.
@ It’s way too expensive these days to keep using Maya. $2,000 a year for one user is absurd. If it were on a pricing model like $20 or $30 a month I would probably use it. But not for $245 a month or $2000 a year.
@@charlespayne5826 Yeah it makes me really sad because I love working in it, such a crazy price for individuals. I can see it being expensive for companies and stuff but not that high for single users.
Edge Loop select on a Mac: make sure to select the Command/OS-Key for emulating a 3 Button mouse. Selecting the Alt key disables Edge Loop Selection. ;-)
For all the people having issues at 17:00 with adding the blender. The only way I found to fix it was. Go into Edit Mode: Select Vertex mode. Select object or press(A). Press M, select " By Distance". Hope it helps you.
Blender wasn't configured automatically to see anything happen with the bevel modifier. So, I looked it up and found that under the geometry section of the modifier, "Clamp Overlap" had to be turned off. Thank you for the great tutorial for getting going again after a couple years!
I haven't watched this for a full minute yet, and it's already 1000x better than Blender Guru!! Great job of getting right to the point and not wasting our time. ✨Subscribed! ✨
thx a lot man, im one of the Maya User who struggle that edit mode .. G then X, then S and Z... argh.. thank got you mention in early tutorial to forget about Maya shortcuts and that alternate button - 🤣🤣. Your tutorial is awsome.. thanx for enlighting us.
Good tutorial, but I spent a lot of time trying to deal with the bevel tool not functioning as you demonstrated (at 5:05). For anyone else having the same issue, I finally resolved it by selecting all vertices (ctrl + a) and combing all geometry by distance (m -> merge by distance).
had to put mine on the z axis instead for the wing mirror to get that result but dont know why. but finished the video it was good thank you the y just moved the wing from side to side sorta like just grabbing it i played around and moved it on the z and then when it was apart sorta put it back on the y just went back to place together almost as one piece.
Some other things to consider: Build in parts-it's faster, easier, and gives a better end result. Also, start with a plane instead of a cube when you can. 2D shapes are easier to edit than 3D shapes.
dont know how, but I could only get the mirror to work properly by mirroring the Z Axis. Which then moves the object on the Y axis just like the tutorial. Not sure where I deviated from the tutorial to create this variance, but it works for me so whateves, lol!
It is because at 9:46, the plane is originally in another orientation. After rotating the wing to the correct orientation at 9:54, you could press ctrl + A to apply rotation. Then it would mirror along the Y axis as expected. Just leaving this comment for future learners watching this video.
You can add a cylinder (SHIFT + A > Mesh > Cylinder) and change the top number (vertices) to 6 and then reduce the Depth to make it flat. As you can tell. I'm a total beginner to Blender! But I can make a hex :-)
@ I haven't even had a go at following this tutorial. I watched it and my mind was blown so often it's like a Swiss Cheese. At some stage I will follow through and see if I can reproduce this.
No idea what I'm doing wrong with the wings. After doing the inset at 15:42 whenever I try and do e + y the faces just morph into the plan and show up on the other side. Edit: For some reason I wasn't selecting the right planes. Not sure how I got it to work but I think I figured it out
Loving this tutorial! I’ve got a background in Maya and Rhino, but wanted to add a feather to my cap and have recently started playing around with Blender 🤓

The mirror thing you did at 18:18 doesn't work at all for me. It's all flipped and ugly

the mirror along the Y axis isn't working out for me for some reason. It's not separating the sides. I alt select the edge, add the mirror, select Y as the axis (perpendicular to the plane), then press A to select all, then G+Y, and it's moving both sides together..
Месяц назад
Okay, maybe it's a version change, I had to select X and Z to give it the correct plane to mirror from. But now the two sides are separated and using G + Y still moves both sides in unison.
Месяц назад
And got that somehow sorted as well. It will be mirrored based on the Origin point.
Hey I hit a road block I can't figure out. I have my wing selected but when I hit bevel it doesnt change the wing at all. No many how many settings I change in the bevel menu it does nothing to how the wing appears

Worked great till the wing plane duplication. Tried to follow your keystrokes about ten times without ever getting the right results. Gave up and rotated the duplicate by entering 180 in rotation.Wing panels absolutely refused to merge. Gave up. Still learned a lot of useful stuff, though, thanks.
Hi, I was wondering if you can tell me what could have gone wrong when it was time to 3d print this model. When I attempted to print the model, the wings came detached from the main body and the 6 panels that made each of the wings were missing on both wings; only the 'skeleton' of the wings were printed. Other than that, the rest printed ok.
i know this is 10 months old but some of the keys you press are not the same as what i have to do to get the same results, did you set them that way or is that default? also the mirror part for the wing it automatically puts a mirror image of the wing on the other side of the model all together with no way to move it back because it makes both side into one piece.
Hi, does anyone have the same problem as me? In modifiers, no matter what I add, nothing happens on my project, I had to do it myself (with Ctrl+B) and the subdivision is the same, it doesn't round anything for me at all. "Mirror" is the only modification that worked Anyone have the solution ?
