Ooh, I liked this one! I'd love to see a more advanced version where you take this and start pushing it towards being more complex/screen accurate. Great job.
You are a good teacher. Thank you for your short , simple and crisp approach and thanks to avoid unnessesery blah...blah.... I ve learned many things from this tutorial.
This is exactly the type of video I wanted do, so many tutorials start with making complex scenes with multiple objects. your approach of just doing a simple model first was so much easier for me to digest and focus on the base 3d modeling tools. It was also very helpful that you choose a geometric ship because my whole goal is make a TRON like ships and put then into Unreal Engine.
I'm pretty sure we can blame Blender Guru for the fact that at least half of the people who use Blender call a single vertex a "vertice." 🤦 (great fun and fast tutorial, by the way. 👍)
this comment is for all your tutorial videos and i want to thank you very much, you are helping us a lot, you are saving us many years of struggle , please dont give up helping us
I'm a veteran in Maya, so as soon as I opened Blender of course I was trying to use all the Maya hotkeys and workflow for everything and just watching Blender do all sorts of crazy things haha. This workflow is so much faster and makes so much more sense to me. It feels more like you're sculpting an object rather than meticulously moving vertices, edges, and faces individually. You can definitely do everything you are showcasing here, but there are more steps in between. Blender seems like its going to be so much faster for me.
Loved the pacing of the video. I feel like most tutorials series I would have to watch a few hours worth of videos to learn what I learnt in this 20 minute video.
I learned a lot of helpful things from this, thanks for making this tutorial. Even if it's in the the paid version of the tutorial, for this free version I might recommend making at least a quick mention of how one may want to use edge loops for the subdiv for any beginners watching in case that's a question that pops into their head (I still consider myself a beginner but a friend informed me about edge loops).
Edge Loop select on a Mac: make sure to select the Command/OS-Key for emulating a 3 Button mouse. Selecting the Alt key disables Edge Loop Selection. ;-)
Some other things to consider: Build in parts-it's faster, easier, and gives a better end result. Also, start with a plane instead of a cube when you can. 2D shapes are easier to edit than 3D shapes.
I haven't watched this for a full minute yet, and it's already 1000x better than Blender Guru!! Great job of getting right to the point and not wasting our time. ✨Subscribed! ✨
Loving this tutorial! I’ve got a background in Maya and Rhino, but wanted to add a feather to my cap and have recently started playing around with Blender 🤓
had to put mine on the z axis instead for the wing mirror to get that result but dont know why. but finished the video it was good thank you the y just moved the wing from side to side sorta like just grabbing it i played around and moved it on the z and then when it was apart sorta put it back on the y just went back to place together almost as one piece.
if anyone else had an issue with the Bevel mod not working you should turn off "Clamp Overlap". If there is a better way to do this please let me know.
dont know how, but I could only get the mirror to work properly by mirroring the Z Axis. Which then moves the object on the Y axis just like the tutorial. Not sure where I deviated from the tutorial to create this variance, but it works for me so whateves, lol!
It is because at 9:46, the plane is originally in another orientation. After rotating the wing to the correct orientation at 9:54, you could press ctrl + A to apply rotation. Then it would mirror along the Y axis as expected. Just leaving this comment for future learners watching this video.
Worked great till the wing plane duplication. Tried to follow your keystrokes about ten times without ever getting the right results. Gave up and rotated the duplicate by entering 180 in rotation.Wing panels absolutely refused to merge. Gave up. Still learned a lot of useful stuff, though, thanks.
I couldnt complete the Guru's chair tutorial because it was too long and boring and too much talking. Your tutorial is PERFECT. SO MUCH TIPS. So well structured. So logical. Thank you!
So true. Even though I finished the chair, I was getting frustrated a lot of time along the way because he keeps clicking and doing things without explanation, so I had to slowly replay whenever it occurs. In his defense, the chair tutorial was 4 years ago and his very recent donut tutorial was much more easier to follow as a complete beginner.
Hi, I was wondering if you can tell me what could have gone wrong when it was time to 3d print this model. When I attempted to print the model, the wings came detached from the main body and the 6 panels that made each of the wings were missing on both wings; only the 'skeleton' of the wings were printed. Other than that, the rest printed ok.
Hey I hit a road block I can't figure out. I have my wing selected but when I hit bevel it doesnt change the wing at all. No many how many settings I change in the bevel menu it does nothing to how the wing appears
Hi, does anyone have the same problem as me? In modifiers, no matter what I add, nothing happens on my project, I had to do it myself (with Ctrl+B) and the subdivision is the same, it doesn't round anything for me at all. "Mirror" is the only modification that worked Anyone have the solution ?
Why do you not have a second plane in your ViewLayer when you duplicate it? A lot of my stuff just doesn't behave like yours from that point in the video.
i know this is 10 months old but some of the keys you press are not the same as what i have to do to get the same results, did you set them that way or is that default? also the mirror part for the wing it automatically puts a mirror image of the wing on the other side of the model all together with no way to move it back because it makes both side into one piece.
had a problem, when i tried to recalculate the mesh outside it did not work for all of them, and the bevel modifier was working weirdly, making spikes everywhere, how can i fix that?
@ 17:00 add the bevel no mater what i try its not adding the bevel, in edit mode, hit A then select all then add the bevel modifier, nothing happens im on blender 4.2
Hi, in fact you can't modify it once you have clicked elsewhere than in the settings, it's as if you had confirmed what you had done so if you realize that you have not made the right settings, all you can do is start again 🤷♂
Ooh, I liked this one! I'd love to see a more advanced version where you take this and start pushing it towards being more complex/screen accurate. Great job.
Great idea!
E =extrude
E + escape (deselect action) then S to scale
B = bevel
Alt + press = loop
Control R = Loop cut, click to commit

For me isn't blender guru problem but someone who prob from him
This video legitimately helped me so much with figuring out some of the basics to make my complex shaped objects work

I am just starting to learn Blender so I can create 3d models to 3d-print. This has given me so much assistance in getting going. Thanks !
Same bro.
Bro , what skills needed to be learn this skill . How many months does ut take for a beginner to learn it
10 times more helpfull then these tutorials who are trying to tell you everysingle shortkey and things you can do in blender.
This is nearly identical to my Maya workflow, and now I am much less worried about switching, thank you.
Absolutely wonderful ! Thank you Mr Bailey
Very smooth....I can see the experience level, took you less than 25 minutes.....It takes me 25 minutes to remember 3 hotkeys...Thanks for the vid

Fantastic! I am not exaggerating when I say, I plan to watch every video you've made
Awesome, you make it look so easy. Love it
At 6:56 if you have Blender 4.1 or superior press "Shade Smooth" and add the "Smooth by Angle" modifier
Thank You.
u saved me

a very well thought out beginner tutorial -- great choice of model!
"Let's start with a cube and end with a tie fighter"... deletes cube 😂
Thanks so much this is one of the most helpful videos I've ever watched, you actually get to the point.
at 5:00 After bevel for selecting those faces, you may select it with pressing Ctrl command for shortest path..
Great Video. This explained what I was doing wrong. Also, my modeling should go faster. Thanks again
Dude I loved this tutorial.
In my opinion you explain better than blender guru.
(I didn't understand a thing of him)
yes. this tutorial is 100000 times better. Guru makes it seem so difficult lol
great tutorial, quite easy to follow
thanks for the tut i love this, easy to understand and follow

I finished the tutorial. Thank you for the video. Felt good about myself that I was able to complete this
This is awesome, I am barely getting started after 200 hours on blender, but Great tutorial to follow!
Loving this tutorial! I’ve got a background in Maya and Rhino, but wanted to add a feather to my cap and have recently started playing around with Blender 🤓
Thanks for this awesome tutorial!
Amazing tutorial. Thanks you!
Me coming to RUclips to learn how to use blender. Also me, watching how to make a complex model when I can’t even make a tray🫠

Yep, same here. I'm on 4.2. You guys?
thanks so much i love star wars and this tutorial was great!!!

Are you doing this from memory of what a tie fighter looks like? Thats wild!
you can see him looking next him, he probably has a reference there
Beautiful nicely explained
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you so much man!!!
When I hold down alt, nothing happens when trying to select loops..
my viewport and colors always look horrible compared to you guys. I would love some setup tips for viewport
I couldnt complete the Guru's chair tutorial because it was too long and boring and too much talking. Your tutorial is PERFECT. SO MUCH TIPS. So well structured. So logical. Thank you!

Brilliant as always, thanks.
Thank you for video! 😊
Super...want more plz
I love your videos dude but please can you try combine all or most of this tutorial in a single video? i mean it would really be helpfull. Thanks
Just experiment that's how I learned some of Blender
don't do shade smooth part in 6:56, it will ruin your model and make unwanted sharp i added shade smooth by sharp 'after finish model'
Thank you
Thanks dude
The Alt and click to select the entire ring doesn’t work on my Mac?
The Alt/Option on Mac and click to select the full ring doesn’t work on my Mac?
At 18:59, when i mirror in y axis, it creates it far from the original object. How do i fix that??
I couldn't get my grid fill to work on the center of the wings. Kept saying to select edges with a wire frame or something like that.
7:25 why using grid fill when you can scale it?
Hi, I was wondering if you can tell me what could have gone wrong when it was time to 3d print this model. The mirror thing you did at 18:18 doesn't work at all for me. It's all flipped and ugly
better than the donut video ngl
the back side

Best video!
I like it when its a beginners modelling tutorial but love it when its related to starwars😇😇😇
Did you know i named the file 'spaceship.blend' 🤒🤒🤒
Why do you not have a second plane in your ViewLayer when you duplicate it? A lot of my stuff just doesn't behave like yours from that point in the video.

Which blender version are you using? because in my blender 4.2 the scaling tool not working properly
Apparently this is a beginner tutorial for people who already know how to use the program...
had a problem, when i tried to recalculate the mesh outside it did not work for all of them, and the bevel modifier was working weirdly, making spikes everywhere, how can i fix that?
Im having the same problem
19:56
@ 17:00 add the bevel no mater what i try its not adding the bevel, in edit mode, hit A then select all then add the bevel modifier, nothing happens im on blender 4.2
hit m to merge verticies, by distance
I had the same problem, but christianthompson3069's solution helped out.
WOW! Eh! I waited!!!)
gj thx
W
What would be a reason why grid fill isn't working on the wing?
same problem too, i think bcos the plane duplicate are not connected, i'm still looking for a way to connect them
*i found a way, when u select the vertixes. press e and then s to scale it down then tap the pop up and set everything to 0*
why is my model covered with cyan lines
same here and my viewport looks odd
Anyone having trouble at the 18min mark? mirror modify not mirrroring like the video?
Ok i was moving in object mode not moving faces in edit mode
❤
The beveling doesnt work for me.
It makes some of the edges become triangles instead of paralel to eachother
Same here! Did you find a solution?
@@Rene2Shae nope
0:31 how do you get back to that after you already set it? 😅

@ whyyyyyyy
@@dontforgettolike7127 I don’t actually know the answer to that, sorry 😅
Maybe it becomes too complicated after, if you changes it again and again 🤔
everythign falls apart for me at 18:32 I add the mirror hit g y and doesn't do anything but move my whole object
I mirrored on the z axis and it worked. Don't know why I cant get same results as you
@@MYBB90 FOr me even the Z-Axis isn't working. Have you got the solution yet?
Instructions unclear: Blew up my computer
In the beginning I'm listening you like Andrew Kramer 😂
The last part is very confusing I still don't get it
blender guru who ? 😂
5:11 everything was going well until the bevel tool wanted to make triangles here...
started over and it worked :)
4:47
@18:40 you dont explain how to move those objects at all wtf????
way 2 fast for my small brain

?
