I'm fairly certain another monitor that was PWM free was causing me issues and I couldn't understand why. I believe it had the same minor brightness fluctuations as the AOC Q27G3XMN. hello! i thought that it was the other way around? flicker free is better for the eyes and migraines and pwm was bad? am i mistaken? i am also looking for a monitor and i have problems with migraines very often.
In G-Sunc test it definitely flickers. At the moment there are no any G-Sunc Compatible monitors which don't flicker. Maybe there is a little flickering but it's present.
Bought this monitor, and it absolutely rock! The only downside is the smearing; if you never tried a VA monitor before, you're in for a suprise. Its as if the pixels were all "sliding", it really jumps at you while scrolling text. In games it isn't too bad, but still it could be the only "bad" reason not to like this monitor.
It this EU or US version? RTings had great sRGB accuracy while TFTCentral had the same results as you. I suspect there are monitors which are not calibrated or have firmware issue while others, especially the US versions, have this sRGB mode working correctly (and also have lower minimum brightness). It's also worth mentioning it has no USB ports, so you can't update firmware!
I can only presume it's the EU version. Indeed, Simon had the same issues too. As for the firmware update, it might still be plausible over the G-Menu software, but it didn't work for me - and yes, there are no USB ports which could be problematic.
@@TotallydubbedHD I believe the AUX data side channel in DP is only used for sending/receiving of some control messages like identifying the monitor, controlling menus etc. I'd be very surprised if it was used for firmware updates.
Did you ever make any comparison videos regarding the native color depth display and an FRC? I always wondered how huge is the difference in the colors in terms of gradients and the color space coverage. I've seen a lot of monitors using 6-bit+FRC or 8-bit+FRC to achieve 10-bit color depth. Also, do you have any plans on making some new buying guides? I mean like choosing the best monitors for editing, gaming, mixed and so on... I know you've already made some videos in the past, but a refresh will never hurt.
I've not made such a video but thanks for the suggestion. Think it would be hard to demonstrate on video and further the actual viewership for it is quite niche - so even harder to justify spending time and money doing it. As for the monitor guides; I do want to have an updated gaming monitor roundup, but I just haven't had the time. It's certainly on my to do list though!
Indeed, I have the same question that someone has commented on, and it is that I assume you are using the Q27G3XMN/BK version sold in Europe. As someone who has the USA version, I notice that your OSD has slight differences, such as "Adaptive Sync" being named "AMD FreeSync," or that the SRGB restriction does not work on your unit (similar to the unit from TFT Central, but not on Rtings or mine brought from the USA). Additionally, it seems that you suffer from the red tint that I see affecting European units more, something that my monitor shares is the tendency to have dim areas, even less bright than they should be. Speaking of brightness, my unit, like Rtings', is less bright at all levels (peak of 1100 and minimums of 40).... It seems very strange how one version or the other can vary so much despite being the same manufacturer and using the same panel. PS: As someone who has their old Samsung 1080P 144Hz QLED VA monitor next to me, it's curious that my new monitor is actually worse at handling black transitions than this older one... but on the flip side, it has much less overshoot than the old Samsung... not to mention bright transitions (AKA RGB 50 to RGB +50), which are much faster, at least to the eye and in the UFO. The contrast is much superior, and light leaks on the AOC are negligible compared to my old Samsung, all of this without using local dimming. Question: between this panel and the one that comes with the MSI you recently reviewed, which do you think is the better implementation of a VA panel in terms of pixel response times?
As you said, I can only assume it's the EU version. But I'll clarify and also ask the question to AOC about the differences (if there are any) between the two versions. Clearly by your comment there might be, which would be odd and concerning. As for your question: I'd say this VA implementation is better than the one I reviewed from MSI (presume it's the budget 240hz 1440p you're referring to). Not only due to the response times but also the minimal overshoot and smearing.
Just to point out one minor error with the review; The low input lag mode is automatically turned on when Freesync/G-Sync is enabled. That's why the option becomes greyed out, it doesn't turn it off. That being said, gsync in general adds a very small amount of input lag (1-2ms according to google), but that's not unique to this monitor.
@@TotallydubbedHDso what did you mean by greyed? I wanted to get this monitor for my xbox series s and ps5 but i didn’t really understand what you meant at that part.
ouch we got really done over here with the price huh. Still not bad though for what you get, hopefully this forces other companies to release mini LED monitors in the budget space and maybe drive down pricing overall as well. I don't need one but I would love to introduce my brother to HDR gaming but not get him an OLED as he will just burn the thing in. Great review
@@TotallydubbedHD I ended up getting one lol after seeing you and others saying its good. Comes tomorrow and I cant wait to show him some good HDR other than my OLEDs.
@@TotallydubbedHD Very happy with the monitor. It gets very, very dark and the HDR for how little zones it has is surprisingly good. Its not close to any of my OLED displays but it was also way less than those and he also cant burn it in. Had to calibrate it though as it also had the red tint everyone was saying but after that it was great. I cant believe we are getting HDR monitors at this price point with these specs and I hope we can see more companies get into this space. We need more mini LED options at all price ranges ( although I do think the more expensive ones are kinda useless seeing as QD OLED and WOLED are far better overall but burn in is real and some people use their PC for other things than just gaming ). Very happy you had a link to it, I got the last one in stock lol.
@@lilpain1997 agreed on all fronts and thanks for sharing! Glad you like it and I appreciate you using the links as it gives me commission; really helps the channel :)
Got my unit (UK version). Can confirm sRGB does absolutely nothing. There's also a red tint on the entire screen, which I found easy to fix by changing the colours to R28, G45, B42. I'm curious of if you can try these settings on your unit and let me know what you think? I believe all european units have this red tint issue. Also you mention the temperature is 5500k, is it possible this is due to the red tint? Overall I'm not sure what to think of this monitor. I upgraded from an old TN panel and I didn't find myself especially blown away. I've tried some IPS panels in the past and I remember thinking the colours looked extraordinary, but with this AOC, I'm finding myself quite unimpressed. Contrast ratio is great, and black smearing is a non-issue for me on this monitor, but the colours just seem.. okay? I don't do any image editing, just gaming but I was thinking about switching to an IPS like the Dell G2724D. Maybe the more accurate colours are what blew me away on IPS monitors I've tried in the past.
Thanks for confirming. There's a slight red tint at angles, which is what might also affect the colour temp. I don't have the unit, just got it in for review. As for your comment about the TN panel and this, I'm surprised - far far better HDR and ridiculously better contrast ratios! But yes, a colour accurate and punchy IPS (or even VA) might look better than this one, so that might be what you're experiencing.
The thing of doing R28 G45 B42 is that you are limiting the colors to SRGB space, and, for people that are accustomed to saturated colors like me, when I use the SRGB constraint the colorimetry becomes... boring, yes, the colors become more realistic and such (plus the color temperature gets right and the red tint that in my US unit is already low, disappears), but it's just not visually appealing to me. I imagine that for someone who has been in the SRGB color space for a long time(due to TN), using that configuration just doesn't have any "surprises". Have you tried the DCI-P3 clamp ? if that works, According to Chinese reviews the color are accurate and covers like 93% P3 with a delta E of 1.5 average... maybe you can get a better sensation with that, even if the color of SRGB content are not that accurate (oversaturated).
It has been in my crosshairs since Christmas. I am currently waiting for the Xiaomi mini LED G Pro 27i to be available and for the reviews and price. Would you be able to review that in the future? At the end of the year, I will probably make a purchase decision. Keep up the good work.

Would love to see a review of the AOC 24G15N and TUF Gaming VG249Q3A. I've been eyeing these monitors to see which one I'll buy and wondering if two of these monitors have a native 180 Hz refresh rate.
Would this be the contender with the G7 Odyssey? OLED would be my choice if it weren't so expensive, but VA is attractive due to reports of being better for eyestrain. £350 vs £425 is the current price gap, not sure what sales exist
@@TotallydubbedHD Honestly have no idea what HDR is, for context my current monitor is an Iyama E2272HDS (TN panel) and my PC is from 2012 so I'm upgrading both! My Steam Deck OLED is by far the loveliest screen I have. I've had a look and seen the G6/G7 fall below 400 on occasion too.

@@RikipausHe meant the Agon Pro AG274QZM.. That's the one he reviewed and he meant the Q27G3XMN is better to him for the purpose it delivers and at it's price point. By the way the AG274QZM is Mini LED FALD.. not OLED....
how's the smearing when watching fast-paced action movies? I had an odyssey g5 va that i ultimately returned because the smearing was SO BAD coming from an ips panel. But I also care about a good hdr. Play valorant/fps games + want that immersive AAA gaming.
In that case, I would rather look for an IPS, Mini LED backlight or an OLED if you would want to play action or competitive games and also have HDR for some reason. Sure, it's hard to combine HDR and a clear motion on a budget. I've seen even more expensive VA panels having terrible smearing and motion blur. They're more suitable for 60Hz max like a TV, because of the deeper blacks.
everything below G6 is trash/dogshit/crap etc in Samsung... The Dark transitions in that monitor its like 30-40 ms. This AOC its sub 15ms, no IPS perfect (5-8 ms) but much better compared to the G5 VA and you gain in the bright transitions that are sub 3ms.
Hi there, Great video! 1 question + recommendation for future videos: I dont know if this monitor supports 120Hz*1440p + *VRR* on PS5. maybe you can take a photo of the HDMI input info from the PS5? does it allow for VRR or not ? - this kind of will add value to your videos :) waiting for your response. 😃
I don't own a PS5, so can't 'add value' to a video that already takes me days to produce and isn't appreciated enough by viewers. VRR won't be usually supported if you don't have HDMI 2.1 or a native G-Sync module.
thanks for the super quick answer. think about my suggestion because while checking out monitors on youtube, almost no review covers that type of interest so if you want to make yourself a little bit different, you can do it. and you can get maybe info from RTINGS or other sources. @TotallydubbedHD, Hi, I have one important question, the Monitor Unboxed channel has noticed an extremely high delay when using HDR+VRR at one time. The moment where they talk about it is 19:40. If you have this monitor, could you confirm this information and what should we do to reduce the input lag. Maybe it's the frequency or something else that can be adjusted. I would like to play with VRR but not have such an input lag. (Perhaps such an instance, they got)
I can't comment about other reviewers or their findings, it's best asking them not me. But if you're referring to input lag, I have no means of objectively testing it with VRR and HDR. I also no longer have the monitor, it only came in for testing.
UK is getting shafted once again when it comes to monitor pricing. This monitor in the US went on sale for $240 and now sells for roughly $280 while we have to pay here £350. I cannot say its that good of a deal at that price, considering something like AW3423DWF can be picked up at anytime for around £670 (10% coupons can easily be found). Yes, the price is almost 2x but the quality and performance you would get would be way higher than 2x.
@@TotallydubbedHD Well lets compare, 4953600 self lit pixels vs 336 zones, 0.1 ms response times - no smearing, no overshoot, much better colour performance, magnitute better viewing angles, much better interface and controls (nipple vs 5 atrocious buttons), 3 year warranty (burn-in included) and then depending on taste its ultrawide and glossy. Guys the "Minimal invers ghosting" and Smearing on VA Pannel is not a joke or a thing you can work with. Trust me, if you buy a VA as me, you will keep it and you'll regrett or you refund it ( i refund it, i had a philips). On VA the ghosting may not seems so bad but when you see with your own eyes will be a big diference. Everything that has black, in the text will leave a trace after it, or at best it will seem like a blur. And to reduce the ghosting you will have to adjust the settings, but it will look terrible, but you only can reduce 5-10% depends of the monitors. This will be even more obvious if you come from a TN or IPS panel. I do not recommend for those who want to play at a good quality, and since you want 144hz-240hz you want to do it.
@@TotallydubbedHD I didn't test the monitor, I tested another one that had a review from you: philips evnia 25m2n3200w, where you said that you can use the faster mode where it has the least ghosting, but in fact the ghosting on the faster mode is unusable, you have to you say that it cannot be used for competitive gaming, ghosting also affects browsing, the VA panel comes with this disadvantage. There are a lot of clips on RUclips where they say "Don't buy monitors with VA panels". You are right when you say that not all VA panels are the same, but come with a comparison between them to know how serious it is, so that those who want to buy should choose the one with the least ghosting. If it has good response time and low input lag but has ghosting, it's like saying you have a car with a 500hp, 400 NM engine but it's limited to 100hp.

Well, I have the Q27G3XMN here now and honestly, if you don't care about potential burn-in or slightly worse text readability, buy an OLED. Any LCD is far, far behind any OLED monitor. This one is cheap with good contrast and good response times (for a VA), but angles are terrible. With local dimming enabled, desktop work is really bad and text on dark background is extremely washed out. It's bad especially in corners. Colors are terrible washed out, because of the combination of viewing angles and gamma shift... local dimming only makes it worse. Plus there is that sRGB bug, which is on my unit as well. sRGB mode does literally nothing. Another thing I found is that even local dimming set to LOW is way too much for normal work and low setting also locks you out of some settings in OSD which I absolutely don't understand why "medium" doesn't lock you out, but low does... Honestly I don't know if I'll keep it. It's cheap, so maybe... but it's more likely that I'll send it back.
What angles are you looking at the monitor from? As mentioned, I think it's a non-issue for most. And colours washed out, really?! Interesting to hear you have the gamut issue too.
Having my camera pickup the differences to then show over a compressed RUclips video is going to be near-on impossible. But in person, there is a notable difference between the modes. Your statement is so wrong lol.

Error? When did I say it was disabled?

But yes, a colour accurate and punchy IPS (or even VA) might look better than this one, so that might be what you're experiencing.
yeah that's the settings rtings recommended. What other settings are you liking? Do you have HDR enabled in Windows or no?
The thing of doing R28 G45 B42 is that you are limiting the colors to SRGB space, and, for people that are accustomed to saturated colors like me, when I use the SRGB constraint the colorimetry becomes... boring, yes, the colors become more realistic and such (plus the color temperature gets right and the red tint that in my US unit is already low, disappears), but it's just not visually appealing to me. I imagine that for someone who has been in the SRGB color space for a long time(due to TN), using that configuration just doesn't have any "surprises". Have you tried the DCI-P3 clamp ? if that works, According to Chinese reviews the color are accurate and covers like 93% P3 with a delta E of 1.5 average... maybe you can get a better sensation with that, even if the color of SRGB content are not that accurate (oversaturated).

how's the smearing when watching fast-paced action movies? I had an odyssey g5 va that i ultimately returned because the smearing was SO BAD coming from an ips panel. But I also care about a good hdr. Play valorant/fps games + want that immersive AAA gaming.
also do you have a 32" good for hdr recommendation with minimal smearing?
I’m returning my g5 also.
Smearing was covered in the video. Presume you watched it before commenting?

I don't own a PS5, so can't 'add value' to a video that already takes me days to produce and isn't appreciated enough by viewers.
VRR won't be usually supported if you don't have HDMI 2.1 or a native G-Sync module.

This or an 4K monitor with hdr400?
Well if HDR is important, the answer will be pretty obvious.
@@TotallydubbedHDThanks for the response. Their conclusions are disappointing. Other reviewers did not find this problem. I keep finding out.
UK is getting shafted once again when it comes to monitor pricing. This monitor in the US went on sale for $240 and now sells for roughly $280 while we have to pay here £350.
