    Spider verse was originally advertised as a part 1, the first movie poster mentioned. But then they changed it and never mentioned it again, so it’s understandable to not know it wasn’t going to have an ending

    I absolutely ADORE Napoleon Dynamite, but I understand your criticisms for it. It's definitely not for everyone.
    I'm a sucker for a "plotless" movie when there are well written characters to back it up, and the stuff that happens in Napoleon Dynamite is so endearing to me. It shouldn't have worked as a movie at all, it's truly lightning in a bottle. I can't even lie, the school dance scene and the ending gets me emotinal every time.
    Plus, to me, it's the most realistic high school movie ever made. It's pointless, random, and awkward, just like high school.

    Okay I can respect 99.9% of people opinions but your Napoleon dynamite rating is just wrong. It’s the only movie in cinematic history that’s gotten away with having no real plot or final resolution and still was entertaining and made sense to watch. The comedy alone should make it a 7/10

    • @AaronCrafty
      @AaronCrafty  11 месяцев назад +38

      The jokes/bits that land still hold up. There's so many memorable quotes in it but that only goes so far when the plot is deflated. It was hard to get through in some moments when the comedy wasn't present. That's why I'm in the middle.

    • @ronniedavis3397
      @ronniedavis3397 11 месяцев назад +19

      @@AaronCrafty thanks for the reply!! And I think that’s kinda the point of the movie. The point is that there is no point. It’s painfully accurate of what a small rural town is like. It doesn’t have a big conflict resolution because most peoples lives don’t have one. Most peoples lives don’t read like a typical “plot”. I think the point was to purposely be underwhelming because often times that’s what life is😂

    I used to hate devil wears Pravda as a kid because it was so boring. It isn’t a titanic, but it definitely isn’t bad. No you’re not supposed to feel good about her taking the position from her coworker, you’re supposed to realize she is becoming a replica of Miranda, slowly falling into her lonely lifestyle. Andy’s friends are awful because they take advantage of her position by taking gifts but they also insult her and play with her job. Her boyfriend is pathetic because she has said multiple times that this job is only for a year, she misses a career changing opportunity to go to his birthday and he acts ungrateful. I would slap my lover up the head if they did that.

    I totally agree with you on the Barbie review. It was really fun and colorful and Margot and Ryan did amazing, but the message was just shoved into my face and all I could think was; where is the SUBTLETY? I thought the message was all over the place and tried to cover too much. I thought it was going to be Barbie going to the real world, thinking everything is fine, then realizing how women are putting each other down and acting cruel for men, then we could see Barbie grapple with being bullied for her girly girl attitude, and the movie could use this plot as a way to show how when girls are growing up, one day everything changes and we become petty, rude, sexist, etc. that’s just my two cents tho.

    What impressed me most about Portrait of a Lady on Fire is how at the beginning the cinematography was still good, but kind of stagnant, making me feel like I wouldn’t be able to get through the movie; then as soon as Heloise’s face is revealed the camera movement subtly got more lively. At some point I might do an in depth study on what actually changed because I cannot tell you what was done differently, but it was practically a magic trick that represented the feel of the lead character so well.

    This is why the Batman is just so much better. Pattinson did an amazing job with Batman and his Batman was just so good, and the voice didn't feel forced either. Also there wasnt much color grading in the batman but it was done extremely well, making it look dark and mysterious instead of dull and boring. And catwoman was an actual important character to Batman and the plot unlike Rachel.

      Thanks! I just needed more energy or snappy comedy to make up for the lack of plot. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is another movie that doesn't have much of a plot but is made up by how quippy and stylistic it is. And the last 10min of that movie goes out on a BANG. Napoleon was kinda stagnant from middle to end. Still a classic though.

    I think that is the point of past lives where you are supposed to root for her and her husband, but at the same time feel for what could have been. Of course in the end you know her being with her husband is the best, you arent supposed to want her to be with her childhood friend. Thats what makes it so deep imo because its all about how they could have felt about each other when ultimately they know its not meant to be. I do agree there was just not enough from the childhood friend and her though, mostly silence

    i completely get rating Across the Spiderverse so low because same 😭 even first watch at the end i understood that, yeah, the movie was basically about Gwen and her arc but it didn’t feel full enough for that. Felt so blue balled by the end bc it just started getting real good. At least the more i watch it the more i love it and i think for now it’s currently tied with the first movie for me but i cant get over how disappointed i was in the cinema because they did not announce once at all in any promotions i’ve seen or even during the movie that it would be a part 1 until the credits were about to roll.
    About the Devil Wears Prada tho, i honestly don’t think Andy did too much wrong other than kinda cheating on her ex who wasn’t 100% her ex at that moment (ur right in that it was very unsure) and taking the Paris trip from Emily was bc she was promoted for surpassing her as Miranda’s assistant but yeah it was pretty cruel to Emily (i think saying sorry with giving her all the dresses worked tho bc the dresses is what Emily mainly wanted from the trip). I still think most of that was Miranda manipulating Andy tho and i just want to say that i hate Andy’s friends and boyfriend. Andy got them all gifts from being an assistant and they almost cost her that very job and the bf can’t be supportive of his girlfriend for having it either? i hate that they end up back together.

    Nacho is more of an actual movie with a plot and even with those silly random scenes they do lead into the main plot
    Napoleon on the other hand...comes off like a guy took a video camera and filmed his life in a week or two and honestly i vibe with that
    It gives that nostalgic vibe that brings me back to childhood. I agree...there's really no plot but like, character wise while everyone was like not "normal" ive felt like i've met people like that in my life/am one of those people
    Also while Devil Wears Prada is probably my biggest guilty pleasure....Andie gets more hate than she deserves, she did the wrong thing but was manipulated but thankfully got out of that lifestyle
    HER BOYFRIEND AND FRIENDS THO...like omg actual villains...they are fine with her job when they get stuff but aw man, she's working hard...no she's weird now

    In defense of the dark knight it is the second movie of a trilogy. So Rachel was established in the first movie as his love interest. Hence her importance in the story and why her death had such an impact on him. Also batman is supposed to be CSI like he is a detective trying to solve crimes. And while I'm not a huge fan of bale and his weird growl voice, the heath joker is one of the greatest villains in cinema.

I’m personally not a Dark Knight defender, I think The Batman is the best live-action Batman but just listening to your criticisms it sounds like you’ve watched it as a standalone when it is very much a direct follow on from something else

    For me a big issue with talk to me was the characters not making sense. (SPOILERS)
    but why does her friend go to her house when she calls her when she hasn’t forgiven her yet (or shown any signs of being there for her as a friend)? why does her dad reveal the truth about her mom the day a traumatic event that he knows about because he picked her up from the police station?? Why don’t they ever show what the family unit was like before her mom died so we can see if the father changed at all after the death? Why is the brothers friend introduced then disappears from the movie right after the accident? I get what they were trying to do with addiction but I feel like the characters weren’t utilized well beyond the main three. Especially the two who owned the hand. Also the ending implies that all the spirits are ppl who the hand stole the souls of so why is it all old ppl? It would have been cool if the guy from the beginning was revealed as a spirit later. The editing was also so much cooler in the first third of the film. From then on it was kinda boring from a filmmaking perspective (not plot)

      @@AaronCrafty thanks, I was just kinda disappointed because the premise was so cool, and the acting was pretty good. I just feel like the screenplay needed a few more drafts

    never seen someone misunderstand napoleon dynamite so hard lmfao the fact that the plot stagnates is the fucking point. you’re supposed to be feeling the awkwardness and discomfort that comes along with being a dweeby teen trying to make your own fun and identify your place in a tiny town full of people who already made up their mind about who they think you are years ago. as someone who lived that experience, it’s not something that had a clean beginning-middle-end with noticeable growth or change of character, but rather a begrudging and meandering acceptance of the way things are, and telling this story through the former wouldn’t do it any justice

    I definitely agree with your rating on the dark knight. When The Batman with Pattinson came out, I was AMAZED at how accurate batman's psyche was. This obsessive, depressed, and idealization that young batman has was truly representative. I watched the dark knight fully for the first time after this and I was like eh? ;~; big miss on how batman's portrayed (they do it better in dark knight returns but I won't spoil that for you). Also. I never have and I never will give a single shit about rachel. Thank you for coming to my ted talk

    I think a flawed main character is fine especially in the devil wears prada because Andy was supposed to become the next "devil" wasnt she? She was on track to becoming like meryl streeps character until she left. She definitely shouldnt have ended up with her bf again tho...

    I may be wrong, but my take away from the devil wears prada was that Andy wasn’t supposed to be a likeable character. She judges the fashion industry and the people within it, without really knowing anything about the industry. But then when she starts benefiting from it, she starts doing the exact things she judges other people for, but is still too in denial to admit it because she still thinks she’s different. And then obviously her moment of becoming a better person (for lack of a better description) is when she decides to quit.
    Tbh though I think everything in the relationship with her and her boyfriend was wrong, that should’ve just ended, idrk why they brought them back together. The boyfriend sucked and didn’t take her job seriously because of the industry it was in, even when she actually started to become interested in it, but also she literally cheated on him. Kind of can’t stand them two together

    I think you missed the purpose of Napoleon Dynamite tbh, the fact that theres no plot arc or whatever is kind of the point, the daily life of these awkward outcasts is the plot of the movie. Theres no arc or conflict purposely to make it feel realer. Its intentional. I understand how it becomes not as enjoyable to watch and giving your 5/10 rating due to that is 100 percent valid. but making it seem as if this movie is supposed to have a conflict or saying its a compilation of these moments and rating it based off that is ... misinformed a little. I think ur valid in rating it off ur own option of course, I just feel like you watched it under the guise that its structure like a Hollywood normal movie. It very much unstructured in this way intentionally, definitely not for everyone though.

    The devil wears Prada was one of the least entertaining movies I watched. Obvi Meryl Streep fucking killed it, and also Stanley Tucci but everything else kinda sucked. The way she lets go of her boyfriend is so weird and the new love interest is just…not a love interest. One of my least favorite movies ever.
