The observation of poorer can quality is accurate.
I no longer put cans in a bag. Rather I pick up the cardboard flats the cans come in to the store. I ask the clerk to place any cans carefully in the flat.
Look over each can in the flat before you check out, too.
That is what I do!
I can surely attest to the can change because I have a small storage shelf that has small exposure opening to outside at the rafters and my cans that dates to 2025 are rusting (I do cover for weather). I have said for a long time since before the lock⬇️'s the qualities in all food production are depleting. I have seen other countries have & were getting better the beautiful bounties we use to expect. The USA is downgraded when we use to demand and make the best. We do not produce our own quality & we accept whats left.
I appreciate you. Always great information. Thank you from Texas.
The cans are definitely less sturdy. Nothing is made as well as it used to be made. 😮
I’ve noticed the cans dent much easier. Sad that everything is made cheaper & smaller now days . 😡
I love adding canned artichoke hearts, a jar of roasted red peppers, a jar of mushrooms and grated parmesan cheese to spaghetti sauce. It takes spaghetti to a whole new level! 🍝 Sacramento, California USA 🇺🇸
I love the ARTICHOKE hearts, mushrooms and jarred peppers
So smart!
Sounds great!
I need to try this sounds wonderful
I try to be Xtra careful when unloading cans into my house. They are definitely thinner.
Granny, I suggest you get in touch via email with the company whose can didn't even make the trip home from the store. They owe you some coupons or a refund.
AG recommend rice for rice water in pantries. This is the economical way the third world areas address rehydration dysentery and other stomach nasties.
This is very interesting information. I would like to know more about this.
Alaska Granny, I enjoy your videos! I'm in my 70's. Are you sixty yet? Prepping on!!!!!!!!
hello granny, I really wish we had canned chicken and beef like you have in the USA. we only have canned fish products....
Can your own chicken and beef. Look for videos on preasure canning and or waterbath canning. It's easier than you think.
The box of candles are a different color as well. They aren't as white as the 30 hr candles
Between the pop tops and thinner cans our food wont last as long as it used to.
AG I HOPE YOU ARE HAVING A NICE WEEKEND!!😊😊
I am! Thanks.
Dr.Teimojan Tan is Canadian doctor of the Survival docs.He disclosed about rice water on a Canadian Prepper segment recently.Google explains how to make rice water.
Recent Dollar Tree purchases for me include 23 oz plastic jars of Lucky Leaf brand unsweetened applesauce and AIM toothbrushes. I also picked up another pair of reading glasses which now cost $1.50.
Just finished canning 24 qts of pasta sauce...still have another 60 plus tomatoes towards the next round (already did salsa) the chicken you bought ...I was just sitting down to have a sandwich...chicken salad. 4 or 5 years ago we got 80# of chicken breast tenderloins for a steal....I canned them..80 pint size jars (and yes, gasp, I water bath...the Amish taught me) we always have one in the fridge so when you feel like chicken salad...you have cold chicken to start with...I only have 2 left now. Might have to go buy another box. We do have canned chicken, but if you put it in the fridge so its cold when you need it I swear I can taste the metal in the can...so, having it in jars is nice.
I love glass for food storage,it's so much nicer and no strange taste .
Hi AG 👋... thanks for important information. I agree that the quality of cans is not as good as it used to be. Thanks for info. 😊
Thanks for watching!
My nearby Dollar Tree has reorganized to make move for the $5 items. Seeing less of my usual stock up items. Definitely going to check out your
" Pancake mix" bread.
Thanks😊
Hi AG! I live in central WI and have noticed that our Dollar Tree did a major rearrangement last fall and decreased the size of the foods section to make more room (I think) for the non-food items costing $3 to $5. They still carry the UHT milk, luckily. I've found it very tasty and useful to have on hand.
The Dollar Trees in my area of Alabama no longer sell the good old Gosner UHT milk. The new UHT milk is Modern Pantry -- not nearly as good -- and the fat is often separated in to little globs unless you shake them very hard for a long time. They also don't seem to store as long.
Thanks for sharing!!
What is UHT milk?
@@jellicle1684 From Wikipedia:Ultra-high temperature processing (UHT), ultra-heat treatment, or ultra-pasteurization[1] is a food processing technology that sterilizes liquid food by heating it above 140 °C (284 °F) - the temperature required to kill bacterial endospores - for two to five seconds.[2] UHT is most commonly used in milk production, but the process is also used for fruit juices, cream, soy milk, yogurt, wine, soups, honey, and stews.[3] UHT milk was first developed in the 1960s and became generally available for consumption in the 1970s.[4] The heat used during the UHT process can cause Maillard browning and change the taste and smell of dairy products.[5] An alternative process is flash pasteurization, in which the milk is heated to 72 °C (162 °F) for at least fifteen seconds.
UHT milk packaged in a sterile container has a typical unrefrigerated shelf life of six to nine months. In contrast, flash-pasteurized milk has a shelf life of about two weeks from processing, or about one week from being put on sale

You’re absolutely amazing
I agree with all you've said
I sometimes have to order online what I can't find at my walmart store, leaving to inevitable dented cans😢 Though I have returned a few before, only to have to reorder them all over again.......
Our Dollar Tree has cans of Manwich. Toss with macaroni ( with or without meat) will get you by in a pinch.
Can quality is definitely inferior. We search for cat food cans that aren't dented because most of the stock is dented.
Thanks for the meal idea.
Inflation. A big gov tax. Gov needs to cut back on spending
I can no longer find regular aspirin (they only have low dose), at the Dollar Store and it's very expensive at the grocery store.
Normally, I use a lot of essential oils and I make my own cleaning products, but recently my household end ended up getting Noor virus and a flu bug and in that case I usually bleach the house down on top of whatever essential oils I’m using I’m noticing my dollar store, they have not had any gallon bleaches. I can’t seem to find them every time I go just a month and a half ago when I went, I stocked up on some, they had tons of them now they’re not even on the shelves so that’s some thing I’m working on and just buying for more at Walmart
Beautiful reminders, thanks for sharing. God bless you.
The Dollar Tree, by my home, it is closed, but I know of other locations.
Thanks again.
🙏👍💫🌷❤️✨🌸🌼🌹
Thanks, AG! I am very leary of pop top cans now, so I choose cans with sealed tops (and bottoms).
Same here, even changing brands if l need to hto avoid the pull tab tops.
Hi, I’m new to your channel as I’ve recently started more serious and intentional prepping for a survival pantry beyond my normal extended pantry. I also watch other lighter subjects on RUclips and just have to ask if you have a sister (or a twin sister!) also on RUclips who does clothing unboxings and try-ons. You not only look very much like you are sisters, but you speak much the same as well! Very similar voices. I would love to know if my guess is correct. Have a wonderful day. 😊😇🌻🌷
Sorry, I do not have a sister.
Very motivational video! Thank you! The Dollar Tree is my “ go to” source of prepping items. It’s my favorite store. Even their socks are great! I sure appreciate this store. They are there for folks on a budget-like me!
So true!
I have a question if anybody can please help me. I Am vacuum sealing some dry goods I have two bags on old mill dry potato soup it does say might contain eggs. So does that mean powderedeggs so I can safely vacuum seal that
That would be dehydrated/powdered eggs. Yes, you can vacuum seal just be mindful that it may not have the longest shelf life if it does contain egg.
You should vacuum seal it in jars
Thanks AG
Nice video. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Hi, A.G., pretty in pink, and wise & helpful as usual. Thanks, and Cheers!
Thank you!
Thanks. Happy memorial day weekend😊🇺🇲🌻
Same to you!
I started dehydrating two years ago. Went thru my jars and found several items that were sticking to inside of jars. Had to throw them out. I wasn't aware of "conditioning" back then. Need to use more of my dehydrated items to keep up to date. Haven't been going to DT as I have too much stock for one person! When I go in for ONE item I want, I come out with 20 !!!
Thank you for a good video.
I live in east Texas. Walmart is putting out damaged, and dented cans again. They did this during the pandemic. Are they worried about the supply chain?
The quality of the metal they use in the cans is inferior everywhere, hence so many dented cans. 99% of food in dented cans is still safe to eat, use up the dented cans first. If the can is actually broken then obviously don't eat it, or if it is bulging, throw it out. Always smell it first, it's usually fine. I notice tons of dented cans now.
They also MIGHT be recycling the tinned foods from the gov't DUMBs - deep underground military bases, to keep THEIR stocked food "fresh" & recent. We, of course, are considered to be "less important", so we get the old stock.
They are hoping shoppers buy the damaged food, and don’t complain.
Exactly@@AlaskaGranny
A can of fruit that I bought last week was fine when I bought it. I accidentally put it in front so went to move it yesterday and the top was bulging!
Oh no! Return it for a refund. What brand was it?
@@AlaskaGranny It was store brand. Got it from Kroger's.
Pop top cans are the worst for long-term storage. They're flimsy and I don't trust them. Great $Tree finds!
Hi AG!
I ordered some bulk canned goods from Amazon. Never again as many came damaged.
It's hit and miss; depends how they're packed. Usually get the best results buying a case plastic-wrapped in cardboard base rather than a few loose cans.
@@hazel555
There were 2 cases in original wrap, no extra plastic wrap. They were mishandled, became loose and dented. AG is correct. Cans are made more cheaply than they used to be.
Mine did too, they were tightly packed in box and l thought ,they wouldn't be de Ted but l think they must have been dented before they packed my order!!!
@@hazel555
Two cases. Flinging out all over the box. Damaged goods
@@betsyr4724 maybe it's your delivery person
I mix a can of their sweetened condensed milk and a quart of the almond milk to make coffee creamer. It’s delicious!
Thanks AG. We’re seeing some Dollar Tree locations close and many with more sparse shelves. I always buy the shelf stable milk, it’s very good. The gardening seeds and supplies are already pretty much sold out or picked over. Glad you found some things to add to your pantry.
Thanks for sharing what you are experiencing with Dollar Tree.
The best part about your videos is that I don't come away feeling totally overwhelmed and like a failure because I don't have a 10,000 sq ft building full of constantly rotated food. Like many I suspect I'm doing the best I can with what I have. Thank you for making these videos!
I appreciate that. I try to encourage others, and believe any one can do this!
It seems to me so the number of cans l get that are dented is increasing dramatically, l order often and l think
Will start going in to shop more and can be sure ,l pick up undented cans, but like you said ,they also get dented as the cashier, puts them in the bag and on the way home.lts concerning to me as the food is now questionable to store ,and l try to use it up right away. My momma taught me as a young child not to buy dented cans etc.but l now see way more than ever lately.Yes l have noticed ,they are thinner, than they used to be.
I agree, cans seem much thinner.
Thanks, AG!!! Happy weekenf
You too!
Our $ Tree burned down, someone set it on fire!! Makes me so angry! There is a smaller one a little farther away, but we'll going there! I hope they catch whoever did it!! Great haul AQ! Take care!
Oh no! The world is definitely more dangerous.
We started writing the expiration date on all packages in our pantry and arranging the oldest to the front. This really helps. I like to fry the canned chicken to get rid of the excess water before adding to salad. I like the Modern Pantry milk. I have several month's worth of milk in the pantry and am adding to it each month. I forgot and left half a glass of milk on my desk overnight but it was just fine in the morning. 😋
Love that!
Now I'm concerned
Great haul! Something that I need to stock up on is the chicken salad kits. With some fruit, they make a quick easy lunch.
Yes, I have noticed a definite change in the cans. I have also gotten home and noticed dents that I *know were not there when I got them off the shelf ... I check them thoroughly.
Yes! Thank you!
The Dollar Trees have been hit and miss. I glean them for what I like and for useful things. Food: their coconut flour is fair-priced comparatively. I look for good-sized cans of beans or different vegetables and fruits.I am overly stocked with soups. My husband cannot resist the chocolate-hazelnut spread there with is made with healthier ingredients than Nutella, and it passed the taste test with grandteen who likes chocolate.
I was looking at the chocolate - hazelnut spread there I need to compare the ingredients and where it is made . I also have a bag of hazelnuts and want to make it but I don't think I have a strong enough blender .
Canned beans and vegetables can be purchased for about half of the price that Dollar tree sells them for. Walmart sells the Great value brand, some of them are 64 cents a can or 74 cents a can.
Thanks for sharing!!
@@tennesseeterri I was talking about the over-sized cans, not regular ones. GV big cans are `$1.94
@@tonette6592 Oh wow that is a good deal. Dollar Tree in my area does not have the large size cans.
Adding fresh cut-up zucchini to pasta sauce tastes really good & stretches the meal😊
Sounds great!
I am very concerned about the density of aluminum cans for food. Soooo flimsy.
You and me both!
Has anyone experienced Campbell tomato soup tasting and smelling like pure metal!?
Haven't had any soup lately l have some in pantry ,l will check it out ,soon,AG got me wanting to try tomato soup with gnocchi added.
Is the sweetened condensed creamer the same thing as sweetened condensed milk, or is it thin like regular milk?
I think it is like sweetened condensed milk.
I keep the milk in the pantry especially in thw winter when it anows one year the roads were bad i had that it worked and tasted great .
Great tip!
Yes, cans are not as sturdy now. Always check cans carefully at Walmart; they often appear to have been more roughly handled than at other stores. The regular employees at the super centers don't do the stocking. It is done by teams of seedy looking characters in the middle of the night. At least, that's the way it used to be done. If you've ever gone to a Walmart super center about 1:00 am you would have seen them -- they don't look very reputable.
They are working, so they look good enough to me.
😂 those so called "seedy people' ARE WM employees.
They are overnight employees. ..not sure why your making comments that are FALSE
The damaged product comes off the trucks from the warehouses. ..and sometimes missed during stocking
The German energy crisis affected their steel industry, thinner rolls of inported steel (cheaper) make flimsy cans, especially after we blew up the pipeline to keep Germany from backsliding on the American santions on russian natural gas.
Thanks for sharing your information.
Great video Granny
Thank you 😁
My oldest found that the cans not only dent more easily but her regular can opener could not open them as the top lip was much deeper than her older cans. She ended up using a very old can opener from her grandmother that is not like the standard can opener.
Yes, crazy discoveries.
I have been struggling to open Del Monte Green beans for months now,it's the only thing so far but l have 3 can openers and all of them are that way,It has to be the cans.
Thank you, AG. Have a safe weekend.
You too!
