      Fair enough. Mine never did, but it could be argued that I'm a bit of a mutant. I've had tattoos on my chest and forearms since my 20s, and now I'm preparing to get my hands done.
      Mind you: I'm 50, divorced, and my kids are all grown up... so if there are negative repercussions at this stage there's no one to suffer for my decision but me, and if people don't like it they can bite me. X{D~

    It can be done. I work in corporate with hand and neck tattoos but I must say, I wear a ton of turtlenecks and scarfs. I wore these items before my tattoos anyway but just keep in mind your wardrobe may need to change. Make sure you work hard and people will respect your position regardless and they may even kick their stereotypes to the curb.

      I feel at least from my experience 30 odd years ago, is that you establish yourself as a valuable employee and keep them covered. Once you have proven your worth, they are more excepting of that forearm tattoo slipping out from time to time.
      If you plan placement, they may never know you are tattooed. I worked in an office for two years before they knew I had tattoos or piercings. Wore a different vintage suit to work every day.

    I'm 42 years old and have been tattooed 40+ times. And yes, this includes hands, neck and face. The two I have on my face were done a little less than a year ago. I am unemployed and draw a check. So this isn't a problem. And because I already had hands and neck, I didn't have to twist the artist's arm at all for my face. And at 42, I've dealt with a lot and feel I've damn well earned the right to ink anywhere I please.

    I've been lucky to where most of the jobs I've had are pretty relaxed about tattoos showing. Even some of my managers now have them. Only one job that I've had didn't care for them. I'm planning on trying for a really nice hand tattoo for my dad later in the year. I asked one of the higher ups about the hands, and she said as long as it isn't offensive or vulgar, I could get it. My dream job is a photographer.

  • @lG-gh3py

    I think there's a a distinction to make between a full on hand tattoo and a small finger tattoo. I've seen a lot of places that don't see/don't care about a little finger tattoo that's really common to see with "the youth" lol but they dislike full on hand tattoos. That being said I've had a hard time getting a job with my neck tattoo but I also live in Japan, a place where tattoo discrimination is really high, and work in a food service job that does not care about my neck piece, I have managers with hand tattoos. It's not always a 100% no go with employers. Another thing to think about, completely separate from employment, is the fact that you are probably going to get a lot of comments about your tattoos. Some people don't mind, but if you prefer to have a low profile when out in public, know that being very visible tattooed opens you up to constant comments from strangers. I have my neck and part of my hand tattooed and I'd say I get a comment, strange look etc majority of the time I leave the house. Some.people can cope with that some people hate it, and it's something important to think about before you get tattooed in any of these areas

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +2

      Yes, I think that people are a little less forgiving of smaller tattoos. They tend to stand out less. I think mainly because people focus less on the hands than the face and neck when they meet someone. Usually people focus on the face and eyes and then only focus on the hands if they are shaking hands or being handed something. Of course that is different in cultures outside of the western world.
      It's kind of sad that Japan still struggles with tolerance of tattoos. Their culture and artist contributed so much to the art of Tattooing. I really doubt that Tattooing would be at the level it is without the contributions of Japanese Artist.

    I think getting a more visible tattoo on areas such as the ones mentioned in this video, you have to be smart enough to realize yes it may effect your employment and be ready for that and not taken by surprise. If you’re willing to deal with that in your future then yes it is for you. If your job and paycheck matter ALOT to you and you think there is a possibility of you not getting your dream job or maybe being let go for your appearance, then I that should be a clear sign to you that these areas are not potential body parts for you to get work done on.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +1

      The key is to have that discussion with yourself and others before hand. It doesn't hurt to also talk with those that work in the industry that is your dream job. Having that insight into the industry's opinion of visible tattoos maybe surprising. Even in the service industry there is a limit of tolerance depending on your location. Ass with any body modifications, do your research before hand.

    From what I've heard, you have to EARN these types of tattoos, Face, hands, neck, you can't get them as your first tattoo and most artists will reject that as a first tattoo. For this reason and the whole job stopper thing, my future neck tattoo, even though it will be small and simple, is going to be one of my absolute last tattoos. I'm even considering my hands, but i plan on waiting until i build up arms sleeves before deciding on if that's what i really want. Personally, because of things like the stigma around them but also that chance of regret or coming to hate the piece or placement, it really worries me when people without many tattoos wanna go straight for these ones. Like, idk if they're really thinking about it? As a kid i wanted a face tatoo but as an adult i find that anything on my face is highly impractical not just cuz of jobs and stigma but also for my lifestyle; i wear a lot of makeup ttypically and i hate the look of tattoos under foundatuon. even if i had all the jobs available in the world after a face tatoo, that reason alone stops me from getting it. idk I'm someone who typically thinks about my tatoos for a while before getting them, partly cuz i have to save uo miney but partly cuz i wanna be sure the piece/placment is something guaranteed i'll keep forever. i don't wanna go through getting anything removed or covered up and i grew up hraring how permanent tattoos were so i always assumed it was something to out thought into.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  3 года назад +1

      It used to be the case. You couldn't get tattooed on the face hands or feet until you were completely covered everywhere else. That has kind of gone out the window the last ten years or so.
      Though a lot of people claim that highly visible tattoos don't effect employment anymore, I think they really don't take into account a lot of professional fields that won't hire them. It is a commitment thar t you need to understand before you get one.

      It really depends on the design. There is a lot more space to work with when it comes to neck tattoos. Also they work better for more details than hand tattoos.

      Short answer, they all hurt!!!!!
      Hands most people compare it to getting tattooed on other joint areas of the body. Though there is a limited amount of space and detail that will work, so hand tattoos tend to be short sessions under 2 hours.
      Neck tattoos not too bad until you get into the vulnerable areas of the neck. For example, it is going to be more sensitive over the windpipe and Adam's apple and the side of the neck where jugular vein is. Like most tattoos, there are those special spots that just hurt.
      Overall on a scale of 1-10, 6-8.

    The job issue is why I chose to work in kitchens. Granted I was working at a place for almost 2 years before I got my neck done on vacation and when I returned my boss came in and asked me about it and said she was relieved because she thought I was in a gang. I guess it didn't help that my neck is the number 13 ( both my daughters were born at 13:13 military time).
    I just got my hand done last week and I'm sure it will be mentioned at my next job when I get one. But until then I'll enjoy my stay at home dad position and not worry about it.
    Don't want face tattoos at all but I do want my head tattooed eventually.

    I am pretty covered. Full backpiece just completed. Half chest, into full sleeve on left side. one on upper right arm. Big one on right side of ribs, half leg sleeve on right lower leg. One down my left shin, one on my left calf. And I am booked in for right inner forearm in Feb and upper left thigh in April. Both pretty big pieces.
    But, nothing I want more done than my hands and I think I qualify for that now. Neck and face is personally a no from me. Especially face, don't think that's a good look tbh. I am going to approach my boss when he's back and see if I can get away with hands. I hope so, cause if not I have BIG decision to make. I don't agree with people telling me what I can and can't do with my body. So it will be a bitter pill to swallow and not sure one I can stomach. I love my job. But, not enough to make my life choices about them!

    I see a lot of people with small finger, neck and face tattoos, a few store assistants with small flowers on their fingers, stars under the eye, a pharmacist with a rose on her ear, I don't care what society thinks personally, you can't discriminate based on race, gender/gender identity or any number of things, if I like having my face tattooed, ears and nostrils stretched, cheeks pierced and tongue split, why should I be discriminated more than someone who gets large breast implants, etc. I don't have offensive slogans, symbols or images, if you don't want to employ me you can f**k right off, it's my body and to be honest, I've had few negative comments, most people compliment my body mods, even after blacking out my left hand and forearm, so it's only the person discriminating with the problem. I could understand if I got a big swastika or racial slogan or a naked woman on my face or hands, but why anything benign?

    I don't really buy this idea of needing to have non-visible tattoos before visible tattoos. I was never bothered about having my chest, back, (etc) tattooed, so I completely understand others who want their first tattoo on their face. It's true, of course, that plenty of people are going to find it tougher to get a job. (On the other hand, some of us will prefer to employ people with face tattoos... actually it even makes good commercial sense: such employees tend to work harder, be more loyal, have more realistic pay demands, and be very happy working as a family. They can also be more creative and assertive. All these are great qualities.) My employees have a self-development allowance each year, and they're welcome to spend that on training if they want, or on travel if they want, or the most extreme body mods they can imagine, if they want. At the end of the day, I would sacrifice anything I needed to, to be myself. And I'm helping to normalise the behaviour and the aesthetic on the way.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  3 года назад +1

      When we talking about visible tattoos, especially in more extreme areas like the face and hands, it's more about letting the client know that it might be an issue in the future. It's the ethical thing to do because let's face it a lot of employers do not share your knowledge and understanding of what body art represents.
      I would like that to change in the years to come and you are right, the more exposure and the more common place it becomes, the less prejudice there will be.
      I strongly believe that a person value shouldn't be defined by how they look but on their character, their contributions and their abilities. It seems that we get a little closer to that every generation.

None of them said that it wasn't on the high end of tattoo pain. It's one of the reasons the design is often small and not detailed.
      Now can you live through it? Yes. Is it often a short, quick tattoo? Yes.
