    I absolutely love the redesign and world building the Gorons got in Twilight Princess. The extra tribal tattoos, the sumo culture, and the advanced mines. I always thought since the Gorons lived in mountains they should, like fantasy dwarves, be great miners. Not just for food in rocks, but for iron, jewels, and dodongo pelts. The Gorons even have shops in Kakariko and Hyrule castle town so they are good business men too.

    Goron Mines is my favourite fire dungeon in the entire Zelda series. I find the "red-tinted cave with lava pits everywhere" aesthetic so monotone and boring, so I love all the industrial scaffolding and magnetic walls and that there's several rooms filled with water instead of lava. That also makes this mine feel more like an actual in-universe functional place (similar to Snowpeak Ruins or the Sandship) instead of just another "temple where someone worshipped something".
    Also has my favourite version of the Iron Boots of any Zelda game because they essentially function as Power Bracelets, too.

    I was a senior in high school when twilight princess released. When the iron boots were used to walk on the walls it blew my mind and I shouted "we're in the future!"

    14:20 maybe these holes spewing flames are diverting poisonous gasses. in mines breaking a lot of rocks, heating them up or finding ancient lava tubes all. can release noxious gases, most of them flammable. burning it off might be a way to keep the miners safe from asphixyation when they're deep in the mines.

    This video gave me a flashback to the first time I played this game and it made me think of when I used to work at subway, I have a Zelda tattoo on my left arm and one day during the rush this girl got super excited and showed her goron tattoo and asked me what my favorite group was, mine will always be guerdos, they are basically middle eastern amazon badasses, how could you not love them. She said no and we argued about it the whole time I made her sandwich. Everytime after that we had the same argument. It was so much fun. All the stuff you have to do before the dungeon and the dungeon itself made me understand why she thought they were so cool, I get it now, guerdos are still my favorite though. I hope she’s doing well.

    Never noticed that the soundtrack was actually the Goron's Lullaby~so cool
    Best use of iron boots ever
    One of my favourite boss fights in the game, because of, as you say, spectacle
    I disagree with you though about the inaccessible chests in temples...I think it offers a great exploration challenge for true completionists

    • @kylanvelpa3790
      @kylanvelpa3790 Год назад

      In terms of pitch it is not really the Goron's Lullabye, it's just similar because it has the same "shape" if you like. Shame that wasn't mentioned. Tbh it sounds more like the Song of Soaring to me.
      Still, having the same shape to the music here may still be intentional by the composer - I wouldn't be surprised, because sometimes leitmotifs are not copied 1 for 1. I know if the Goron's Lullabye was copied note for note it wouldn't sound as creepy as the mines theme does, so if that was the inspiration I can see why they changed the pitch of some notes.

I have not seen anyone do a similiarly thorough analysis of every dungeon. I also like the approach of giving a breakdown of pre dungeon story events and dungeon progression, while also critiquing the overall design. Thank you for your videos, I will binge watch the rest of this playlist in no time!

    I have a theory that the Iron Boots are secretly the entire point of the sumo contest, at least as it comes to letting humans into the Goron Mines. Imagine if a human could beat a Goron through his sheer strength. He still wouldn't be able to traverse the mines, as dependant as that is on using magnetic surfaces. But if you have the Iron Boots AND the skill to use them to beat a Goron in a sumo contest, you stand a chance of getting to Darbus and helping him out.
    The Goron Mines had pieces of a key, while the Forest Temple had mon-keys.
    You may notice that one of those rooms has what appears to be dead Dodongos stretched out on the wall.
    The first time through the open-air room, I like to shoot the archers with the Slingshot. Makes it a little more useful, and it's pretty satisfying to work out where they need to be in relation to your Slingshot when you release the button, and knock them out right from where you stand when you enter the room.
    If you're quick, you don't even need the first or third magnetic patches on that rotating bridge.
    Oh yeah, Dangoro isn't a being of dark magic or a possessed good guy like the other midbosses. He's just some guard doing his duty who doesn't realize you're authorized to go through until after you've beaten him. (Also he shares his name with the Japanese name for the Pokemon Roggenrola.)

    Omg the “oocoo” asides are quickly becoming my favorite thing. Can’t wait for the city in the sky 😂 I always thought the magnetic iron boots were really clever, but I wished there’d been a way to move a little faster since you’re forced into wearing them so often. Oh well, wouldn’t make a lot of sense I guess since they weigh you down (although the also don’t weigh you down when not equipped somehow 🤷‍♀️)
    Always loved the midboss fight here, very fun and reminiscent of Mario 64 just like you referenced! Glad I wasn’t the only one thinking that lol

      I don't know. I have always liked the lead up to the dungeons portion of most Zelda games. It acquaints the player with the region and npc's that it's in and builds the anticipation.
      Games like Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask were the best at doing this I feel.

      I mean dungeons are key part of Zelda games but I feel it’s not the main reason I in joy them, I think it’s a combination of the dungeons, the story, and other stuff outside the dungeon like doing side quest talking to npcs and exploring the over world

    • @chineseman6580
      @chineseman6580 2 года назад +1

    I think the cinematic narrative before The Goron Mines was actually masterfully done for only the 2nd dungeon in the game. The backtracking to get the 'iron boots' was very well done too (you can warp back at this point too I think which is definitely an improvement than the backtracking during the 'The Child Timeline' in Ocarina of Time) and the interaction between The Ordon Community and the main character made for more complex and fleshed-out character interactions than the memory space would allow for the N64's Ocarina of Time. It set very high expectations for dungeons to come in this game and for the series as a whole. It comes across very strongly to me as a player that the development team seemed to have put a great deal of effort in this and certainly using the iconic 'horse pose' after the battle to rescue Colin.
    The Goron Mines themselves were a really cool dungeon overall but I don't think it tops the iconic 'Fire Temple' from Ocarina of Time and its brief encounter with Darunia before he faced Volvagia (and it's very much assumed he lost his life as he is not seen after you enter the boss room but a tag fight would have been epic!). This dungeon seemed more technologically advanced than its predecessor (The Fire Temple) and the layout was less linear in its design and much more complex. The use of magnetism with the iron boots was a brilliant use of the iron boots rather than just acting as an item which added a great amount of weight in areas of deep water. The fragmentation of the 'boss key' was another cool twist as well as the interaction with different Goron Elders rather than simply getting 'the boss key' to enter 'the boss room.' The mini-boss fight was unexpectedly epic and actually quite funny in how you had to beat him. The main dungeon-boss fight was cinematically epic but unexpectedly anti-climatic in his obvious weakness so not much effort was required at all and a bit disappointing that he was even easier to beat than the 1st dungeon boss. At this point, the dungeons themselves and the areas outside of the dungeon are really setting up perhaps one of the best games in the series!

      @CaptBurgerson  Год назад +1

      Ah you’re back! Thanks for the wonderful comment. Definitely agree!
      Only minor correction is that you can’t warp freely yet, but they do soften the blow a bit there by reuniting you with Epona right before that backtrack to Ordon.
