I do like the bellmatic, I’ve had quite a few now. It’s was the first time I’d seen a spring like that, the other mechanical alarms I’ve done always had a barrel.
Im a pretty new collector and picked one of these up from an estate sale for $0.25, i figured that since i got it at such a low price and love watches that I could learn how to repair some basics on the watch. Really the only issue is that the day dial is "loose" and with some relative movement will change but will not change when it needs to at midnight. My assumption is to just buy a new dial and replace it along with the crystal which is heavily scratched would you in your recommendation consider this a relatively easy fix? By watching your video it seems as though it isn't as thorough as a full service but I'd like to hear what other have to say. I've called some repair places out of my state and said it could essentially cost the price of buying a "new" bellmatic. Which has led me to wanting to do it myself thank you!
I have same model Bellmatic as well. In Latvia I could not find a watchmaker who would dare to refurbish it. It is in visualy good condition, but it runs slow and sometimes jams. I think there is some dust between gears. Years ago back seal was not closed properly and I think it got moisture inside which did produce some oxidation and microdust. Dials are perfect and me as non professional I cant see visual damage. It just sometimes jams and when I shake it it keeps goin again. How much such service would cost? I want to bring that watch back to life. This is one of the most amazing vintage Seikos ever made.
@@martinlatvian5538 The problem is not dust between gears - that is not a thing that happens with watches (they are not cars so all prior knowledge you have with gears doesn't really apply with watches). The problem is almost surely that it needs to be cleaned and oiled. After some years (5 or so for natural oils and 10 or so for synthetic oils) the oil dries up leaving the particulate behind and this stalls the pivots. The gears are not oiled, only the pivots, and they are very sensitive to friction. When you shake the watch, you cause such a pivot to shake loose and it works again, for a while. The cost? No-one can tell you except the watchmaker you is going to fix it. I don't know the value of things in Latvia.

Just a comment about the alarm spring. the service manual says to leave it in place unless there is a reason to pull it. You can pull that center wheel bridge out and put it back in with the spring in place but be careful or you can break a jewel. The alarm spring goes in dry.. no lube at all.
Good spot Rob, the sign of a new RUclipsr on my part. I realised but ended up messing up the re-recording of the footage and didn’t realise until I no longer had the watch.
and the pusher button that goes under the upper bridge :/. Done a few times myself and while you can loosen the bridge and push it into place, it's best to take it apart :) @@timebanditwatches3249
No, I don’t oil the pallet fork pivot holes. The rotation angle of the pallet means that no lubrication is needed. I believe it’s quite a topic amongst watchmakers.
Hi! I've just purchased a bellmatic 4006-6040 and realised that the date quickset is not working.. The seller is saying that not all bellmatics have a quickset for the date but I did some research and it should work by pressing-in the alarm button. Everything else works perfectly fine, like alarm, weekday adjustment, keeping perfect time, it's just that the alarm button is not moving inwards at all from the ordinary position, no matter how hard I push. Will it be an easy fix? Thank you very much for your help!
I have a same model, Just have a question regarding that. Does the date change will happen exactly at 12:00AM or not ? Since my watch change the date at 3:00AM.

I'm not sure what I prefer, if the date disk changes approx 12 or the day disk, you should take care about hands alignment.
I know what you mean, I’ve played with getting them change in multiple ways but it always bugs me. Admittedly for most won’t see it change anyway.

Hmmm, Seiko's Technical Manual, which is free to download, shows the correct sequence of parts removal.

why don't you explain how the alarm clock works and how it is set up. It's a video tutorial that makes no sense.
