Don’t be embarrassed about the volume of the alarm. Your not wearing it to impress people who may be around you. You’re wearing it as a tool to assist you through your day. Those people around you didn’t pay for the watch. You did. If they don’t like the sound of your watch that’s their problem. Not yours. I like a loud alarm because I can be in any environment, quiet or noisy. The vibration of the device I seldom notice so I cannot rely on that, so the louder, the better. Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, they are definitely a throwback to another time, technologically. My son can’t even comprehend that I grew up when the internet wasn’t even available.
I have that Seiko for many years. It is such an amazing watch. I just can't find a watchmaker who would dare to refurbish it. It is Very complicated movement. It needs cleaning and I'ts running too slow. Some day will bring it back to life. One of my favorite Seikos ever.
I currently have a Bell-matic booked in with 'Exacta Watches' in the UK for a service and lens replacement. Not cheap at £260 but it is a complicated movement that few watchmakers want to tackle!!
There were a few non English days kicking around, the day wheel part number isn't really shared with any other movement, and I managed to source a couple kanji to go in some of mine.
About the Vulcain: I have the very same Seiko Bellmatic you are showing (with original bracelet and in pristine condition!) and a Vulcain Aviator. The alarm on the Vulcain is superiors, though. Winding works with one crown, turning clockwise winds the alarm, turning counter clockwise winds the watch. The alarm button when pressed a little bit pushed out the crown a little bit and disengages the alarm. Pressing it all the way, pushed out the crown even further to the alarm setting position. It is cool, but has usability issues. In the alarm disengaged position the crown sticks a out a millimeter and just bending your wrist will push it back in - and start the alarm again. The alarm on the Vulcain is loud! Very loud. Louder and more precise then on the JLC or Seiko. It was designed to be heard under water and in fact the Avaitor as well the Compressor are dive watches with 200m rating - even with the alarm disengaged. The winding of the Seiko is not an issue at all, though, because it already has the magic lever automatic winding. Just lifting up the watch will wind it enough to get it startet. Up until today the Seiko 7S movement do not have manual winding.
I love my Bell-Matic but that JLC is such a beautiful timepiece.

Love, love, love your videos. Always so well done and informative. Thank you for doing them.
The mechanical alarm is one of my favorite complications, there's just something so charming about them.

Great video, just purchased the same version!
I have a black face Bellmatic and I love it but that jaeger is just stunning.

It’s funny - having a kanji day wheel used to be such a big score - before yahoo auctions jp started to open up to the world.

I bought one in Japan when I was in the Navy. I believe it was 1968. I found a guy a few years ago who refurbed it for me.
My father wore this for decades.. and day date is the way to go. I sent my to the "Seikologist" for a total refurbishment.
I absolutely love your videos..
First alarm watch was VULCAIN, 1957

Thanks for sharing 👌😊
That seiko is beautiful. Where did you pick this up from in such good condition?

Hey I don’t care if someone hears my mechanical watch alarm.
Very sad you couldn't be bothered to ring the Bellmatic.
Hi there! He is demonstrating the ringing of the watch at 8:24.
