    I moved into my new home last Tuesday. I feel like a kid in a candy store! Everything is new and fresh! I have to pinch myself! The house is rather large, but it's what I wanted after living in an apartment for the past 7 year's!
    Lots of storage space, large yard! I love it! It took 9 months to build, but the whole process took about a year. It was stressful, but worth it. I paid cash., so no mortgage

    The only thing I saw that if I was the contractor I would have done is run a vibrator down into the walls while the concrete was being poured. It would have made the walls stronger and would have made the walls really smooth. You can really see a lot of areas where air pockets formed and to me that is just the wrong way of doing it..

      John, Thanks for watching my video & for your comment. It takes one day to dig the hole & usually the footings are done the very next day. Then the foundation is normally done on the day after that. So only 3 days. Before they start framing, the foundation has to sit for about 10 days. During that time they run water lines, sewer & etc. Does that answer your question?

    This was a great video - thank you. I'm curious about how the water that collects at the bottom of the "hole" gets out of the hole. The ground was undisturbed for millions of years so is rock-hard and extremely difficult for water to saturate, but when the hole was dug and filled back, the dirt is soft and permeable (even after tamping - can't compare to millions of years of settlement). When it rains, water will have an easy path to the lowest point, which is the footing. Is there a drainage system (french drain) that directs water to a sump pump?

    • @TyWilde
      @TyWilde  4 года назад +2

      Donald Lee Thank you for watching my video and for your great question. Fortunately, the ground is not rockhard so moisture can still seep into the ground. Even with compacting, the ground will still settle around the house and that’s why builders will leave a few extra inches of soil around each home. The most effective method for keeping water away from the house is sloping the dirt away from the home so the water runs to the street.

      Thanks for watching my video and three questions. Drainage systems are not necessary usually the water runs away from the house along the ground surface. In most cases, it's cheaper to build up instead of out. For instance it's less expensive to build a 2-story home instead of a Rambler. • @TyWilde
      @TyWilde  3 года назад +1

      Hey, that's a GREAT question, thanks for asking. Compaction is usually done after they backfill to compact the loose earth around the foundation. Usually the home is sitting on what they call virgin soil. That means the earth has been compacting naturally for hundreds if not thousands of years. If the builder is building your home in a locations where they are adding new soil under your home even if it's just a portion of your home they must compact that soil. Builders often need to do this. For me personally, I'd only build a home that's sitting on virgin soil. Have a great day & once again, thanks for your excellent question. Interesting but please be careful as this may work in UT, in other area have to be cautious. Few thing I see different here in BC:
    1. weeping tile is absolutely required here but not seen in the video.
    2. backfill can't be done before floor in place, concrete alone is not strong enough to withhold the pressure. See other video wall collapse after a rainfall. again, may not be a concern in UT or they have framer scheduled right after refill. hard to know from video itself.
    3. waterproof, here need a layer on top of the tar, don't recall the name of it but basically it is a barrier with space to allow water run down so no pressure on the tar water proof layer.

Someone should be giving them the driveway elevation as they are forming so they can drop their frost wall 6in in the front and 4in for the rear pass door to accommodate the slabs pitch. @@billiamnye6562 Thanks for sharing. I sincerely appreciate your input. I know each builder does this a little differently. The builder in this video actually has a great reputation, but that doesn't mean they do everything perfect, right? Where are you from?

    Bro appreciate the video but you went from spending 5 minutes showing digging a hole to magically footing appearing in the next shot?!?!?! Wasted my time.

      I'm sorry I couldn't meet your expectation. I shot this video when I was still learning. I have other videos that might give you the information you're looking for. What is it about the step between digging a hole & footings you were hoping to see?

      Yes. Land is getting pretty expensive now so to keep home prices down, homebuilders are putting homes closer together on smaller pieces of property. It definitely doesn’t work for everyone but many people are just happy to have a home instead of a condo or a townhome.
