His dad was an opera singer! He actually lost this competition and people were outraged. This was the beginning of his long career.
3rd place in that event. First place in History
@@hezu_vt you couldn't be more right!
The first and second place winners of that festival are long forgotten and Jose Jose now belongs to eternity !
It wasn't a singing contest, it was a song contest, that's why they call him "Príncipe de la canción".
Hey! One last thing don't forget that salsa music also has many beautiful ballads and great singers with beautiful vocals.
That performance and that scenario are almost mythical for a lot of Mexicans and Latin Americans, like The Beatles rooftop concert, so this was not any performance, this was THE place where he became a legend.
It’s super easy to understand why- he’s thrilling
He was great when you were going to a break up!! Just listening to his songs!! Good lord!!!
I'm not from Mexico, and from what I know, he wasn't that big outside Mexico. It's not just me because I'm young, but my grandparents didn't know much of him, either. Just tought I'd let you know that. He's good tho
Gabriela González Well I don’t know where are you from but he wasn’t the only big Spanish speaking artist in the 70s and 80s but he was very well known, like Juan Gabriel, Camilo Sesto or “El Puma”. Back in the 80s and still in the 90s latin pop stars were very strong in the “Top 10” weekly charts.
@@carl_anderson9315 yeah, I know, I've heard from all of them, just saying he wasn't that big outside Mexico as he was inside (not many of the artists you mentioned later, either) but yeah, know them, just they didn't resonate as much :)
The Prince of the Song! Frank Sinatra loved this guy and wanted to perform with him. Unfortunately, record labels got in the way. Loved your reaction and anlysis! In Latin America he is regarded as one of the best singers of all time. Check out Amar y querer! It shows his breath control even more and the lyrics of that song are really touching. one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
No tenía idea el dato de Sinatra 😮
@@sebastianrivera1909 es por eso que cantó New York, New York en Esp.
Wowwwww!! 🤝🤲🏻😪 I DIDNT KNOW THAT ! They almost sing 🎤 together 😭😢😭😢😭
Could you imagine what could of happened??😟
@@sebastianrivera1909 Así fué. Sinatra lo fuéa ver a la frontera y quedó impresionado con su voz. Lo invitó a su fiesta de cumpleaños y José José cantó para el
His father was an opera singer who banned popular music from the household, so José José grew up listening only to operatic vocalizers; and that reflects not only on his breathing technique but on his overall singing technique.
Jose also worked a lot with Seth Riggs, who is one of the most famous vocal coaches in the world - Riggs worked with everyone from Michael Jackson and Prince to Sohyang (perhaps Korea's greatest singer) and even Barbara Streisand. Perhaps the greatest influence on him (besides his father) was listening to Johnny Mathis
@@jamesrawlins735 damn thats dope I never knew that
This song was written on a plane as the writer was heading to his mother's funeral.
Oh man I didn't know that 😞
Brother ..... not his mom
Sister not brother or mom?
Wasn't that "El Reloj" interpeted by many? (My fave is Luis Miguel)
It was plagiarized tho
Many people in mexico know that
He died this past year :( He lost his voice to alcohol. It was tragic. But we loved him anyway. >His songs live on through generations.
I was in Tlaquepaque eating when I got the notification then I hear "Dios mio" "No puede ser" people in the restaurant getting notifications and then just reacting
@@mosando 😔😔😔It was a very sad news for all the mexicans!!!
i think he lost it, more because of how much he used to sing, and his body just couldn't keep up, just as what "Seré" says :c
There's a biopic telenovela he had the most beautiful voice of Latin America
@@craner6871 alcohol was the main reason why he lost his voice
I had the Pleasure of attending 4 of his Concerts and to this day can't think of anyone who comes close to his range. A Sad life but a very impacting performer.
Angel Vazquez Jr did you see them when he was in his prime?
It’s hard seeing others living ur dream 😔
His dad a Tenor, his mother a concert pianist...One of Mexico’s greatest singers. R.I.P. Jose Jose 🇲🇽 💥
As a Mexican whenever i see a foreigner reacting to jose Jose and loving it and praising his voice it makes me happy to know that music doesn't have barriers at all and can be enjoyed by anyone 🔥🔥🔥
If you don’t understand the lyrics you’re missing a lot from this piece of art which has a lot of emotions, you can tell he is really connected to the song
A singing legend on Latin Americas .I'm 42 and will listen to his music till the day I die. It was an honor to be born in his lifetime . Gracias gran senor maestro de la musica
Hello,
I have never heard someone sing that well! I have heard music in 5 languages. He is great!
God Bless!
THE PRINCE!
Ignacio Becerra yes sir!
I already left my very positive comment about your analysis but I forgot to mention that the camera focused for a moment on a singer in the audience, Marco Antonio Muñiz a wonderful singer in his own right, who appeared to be in awe and almost in shock as he watched and listened to Jose Jose. Thanks again. You are excellent
This song is a very melancholic song, the lyrics say that he is the "sadden one" so he is singing it as almost a sorrow in his voice, and the interesting part of this specific song/video is that it was an original and was sang for the very first time. In latinoamerica he is known as the prince of the song, the first artist in latinoamerica (as far as i know) to have a whole disk in the number one at the same time, the whole production.....
Jose Jose is absolutely the best especially in studio records. His ballads are impeccable, I love this guy ,growing up in the 🇩🇴 I heard the best of the of his contemporaries and was a stand out in my young ears.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Is a dramatic song with dramatic lyrics, and he made a perfect interpretation.
Best mexican singer ever RIP Jose Romulo Sosa (Jose Jose) great analysis Angel thanks!!!
Many experts have given their opinions about José José, but you are the best, you have given your opinion step by step and it is clear that you are a critic who does know what she is talking about. A standing ovatión for you.
This song gives me chills every time I hear it ❤️
One of the best singers of all time. José José is a true artist 👏👏👏
Jorge Negrete - Yo Soy Mexicano. Or anything by Jorge Negrete, he is classically trained in Opera but switched to folk Mexican music midway through his career. Would love to hear your take
You need to check lyrics, vibrato is just for sentimental, emotion and dramatic tone, he's always singing about sadness, as if he's going to die by it.
He is telling an story, about him dying because she isn't there anymore, in another phrase he is telling "her" that everyone tells him about how sad he looks, and he in his mind answer them "don't they know, everytime he reminisce about her, that's the way he could go thru".
José José THE greatest latinamerican singer along with Luis Miguel and Juan Gabriel!!!!
Frank Sinatra admired him.
sorry to disagree, but El Principe de la canción was in a another level. Juan Gabriel and Luis MIguel were geniuses, but they didn't reach Jose Jose's greatness.
Felicidades hermosa👍
Woww your breakdown of the song was AMAZING!! the best I’ve seen...and you seem like such a humble and down to earth person 😍😍 You just won a subscriber for lifee
Please react to Juan Gabriel ( Hasta que te conoci ) live from Bellas Artes
Second this!
Such a beautiful live performance!!
There's is not alot of technical vocals in the song. You guys like the lyrics more.
I agree
Juan Gabriel cantaba horrible.
That ending vibrato that you said it's for colour, it's used to simulate sadness and a little of a crying voice.
At least it's my opinion, hearing the lyrics along the voice it's really important in order to feel it.
A golden voice. So emotional, I loved it. Keep the videos coming, they're great 😊
Thanks for your reaction and analysis! He is truly a legend in the Spanish speaking world.
Well done. I watch a lot of videos from voice teachers and yours definitely have their own touch and unique perspective. And your smile is like sunshine
Thank you! 😇
La mejor reacción a esta fabulosa y hermosa canción👍👍
Thanks for the reaction! Jose Jose was one of the greatest Mexican singers of all time
Most people in Mexico and Latinamerica regard this man as the Mexican Frank Sinatra. He passed away in September 2019. Lovely voice and a true master of his skill. Can you react to Juan Gabriel's Hasta que te Conoci (Bellas Artes en Vivo version) or "Amor Eterno" (Bellas Artes en Vivo version). That guy is another titan of mexican music. He is not only a singer but composer as well. I believe he composed some of Jose Jose's songs and composed at least 1000 songs.
I'm sorry to tell you but not even Frank Sinatra had Jose Jose voice. Frank Sinatra had an ok voice but Jose Jose and Luis Miguel voices are from another planet. Let's not forget about Juan Gabriel, Camilo sesto, Julio Iglesias, Emanuel and much more.
@@louisgabrielle2154 respectfully, I said regard not sang like Frank Sinatra. Yes juanga is amazing too as mentioned.
He created a master piece with this Roberto Cantoral anthem. (Composer of worldwide covered “El Reloj” BTW). When you combine his singing with the original and powerful message of the lyrics an amazing mix of feelings grows in the audience. Nobody remembers the winner of that festival, everybody remembers this performance until now! Saludos! 😄👊
Hi Angel, thank you for reacting to this world class performer, José José has been one of the most talented, gifted and beloved singers in latinamerica, please do more of him and Luis Miguel, also you should react to Juan Gabriel
Can you react to another one of his songs, called Almohada. You’ll love it.

Great analysis! I grew up listening to him and so far your analysis and comments are spot on! Love you 😘
BEAUTIFUL REACTION!!!
You are golden! Every point is spot on.
José José is one of my favorite people, love him I sing his songs and I think I know his song... he was so dear to my heart that I was compelled to listens to the lyrics!!!
José José is just pure power and so much passion and tecnique. So much goodness.
I love your reactions. You are one of the best and most objectice voice analyst in youtube great work
Thank you for teaching me the techniques that singers have the we people don’t know about it wow
True. His was a wonderful singer. Love His voice. Bravo Jose Jose !!!
I'm Cuban and I have loved Jose Jose since I was a child. Now as I am one of the millions of Dears of Dimash it seems that the memories of my childhood have made me dream a couple of times with him singing "El triste". I wish Super Dimash sings this song some day in Spanish of course, 'cause is one of my favorites of all times, it could sound perfect in his voice.
It is really a pride for me to analyze and react to one of the musical glories of my country Mexico and Latin America as well.Thank you very much really.
I love your channel and I love you How nice to hear you talk about the great José José Thank you very much again.
👍😎🇲🇽
Angel, I need to say this. Of all the vocal coach and singers I have seen reacting in RUclips, you are the one that have the best Spanish pronunciation. The names of songs and artist sound right, even with the accent (normal!). Thank you for making that effort.
Un orgullo MEXICANO. Reacciona LA NAVE DEL OLVIDO de José José.

Undoubtly heritage and gifted. One of the best Voices in the World :-)

Thanks Angel!
This is sooooo good. Might be the best performance I’ve ever seen.
Thx for taking the time to listening to José José may he RIP
I love watchin Ángel i love you smile😘
I enjoy your knowledge and the way you most of the time deliver it right after the video evidence, HOWEVER, how could anyone cut up a masterpiece? Music is the most beautiful instrument of time. Let it be!!!
A lot of the musical choices that he made that you noticed were there to emphasize mood according to the lyrics of the song. I don't know how to express it, it's like you can 'feel' his voice, the sound itself, is 'crying' and 'lamenting' at the same time he expresses sorrow. That's something that made José José special.
Without a doubt this is the best technical analysis of José José's singing.
I never looked at it the way you did , but you are 100% correct about color and its use.
Hells yes,!!! Real music
dude, you need to understand the lyrics, otherwise you're missing the poetic value of the song
Her whole thing is when a vibrato happens and stops, Do we need anyone to tell us this? And do we need to be told that his style of singing is not perfect? His breath support? Give me a break! This guy will runs circle around this lady critiquing.
IDNHANTU2day I enjoyed it very much.
That's why it's a reaction. Also, it's part of RUclips rules.
It would help if she understands the language and why he stops and elongates certain vowels, not to mention body and head expressions. Does she know Spanish?
She’s analyzing voice technic, not writing or meaning of the lyrics...
Thank you for your reaction to Jose's performances of his life
I like ur reactions and I think I learn alot of from u and help me to understand how difficult or hard to be an artist . Good job and keep doing this you are really good on this.
Hola amiguita gracias por reacionar a jose jose
Wonderful video, thank you. I'm no longer a music student but I loved your analysis on the Luis Miguel La Incondicional video and saw this on the sidebar. Had to sub, about a quarter through this video because your breakdown is very riveting and engaging. This is one of my favorite performances of all time and seeing why you think it's good explained in such an easy to understand way is incredibly satisfying. Bless you
Hi, thank you for reacting to Jose Jose. I like that you pause the video and sing a little becuase you explain what hi is doing and we can hear tha specific section. Ususally when I listen to the songs I do not notice all these details, so thank you for pointing them and explaining.
The end of the performance the crowd went absolutely wild. Frank Sinatra said his voice was the best he’d ever heard.
José José, el príncipe de la canción romántica.
El composito de la letra musical lo dedico o dedica a su madre quien había fallecido.

Hello 🤗🤗🤗🤗
From Phillipines
This song was performed live and he won 3rd place, and he sang this song before it was recorded. His father was an opera singer and his mother a pianist, besides the techniques used in his performance, that's half of the magic of this song, the lyrics have the other credit, the words and the way he transmits the sadness of the events make it truly unique and special. The song is often assimilated to the sadness after a break up between two people who were deeply in love, however the composer wrote this song a few days after his mother passed away, so the song has double meaning with reference when you lose a loved one. The composer had a choice between Jose Jose and another female singer to perform this song at the 2nd OTI festival in Viña Del Mar (Chile), luckily Jose Jose got to perform it and this song basically got him started in his long successful career, until it lasted, before he lost his voice due to unknown circumstances, come people say it was due to his abuse of Drugs and Alcohol, some other people say it was due to forcing his vocal cords during his performances. No doubt he is one of Mexico's great singers, sadly he passed away last year. He will be missed but thankfully he left great memories and songs like this one and many more behind so we can enjoy them. I liked your reaction. Try to listen to this song with subtitles.
You are lovely. Thanks for the reaction
Hi greetings from Chicago Illinois- you are wonderful ✌🏼✌🏼🌸🌸
You are absolutely right, he does those kind of "movements" with his voice to add color, it'll make sense to you if you add lyrics to the song, it is all about adding meaning to a specific part of the song.
Thanks for your reaction: it was entertaining and informative.

Angel, thank you very much for this beautiful and thorough analysis of Jose Jose's performance of El Triste. Roberto Cantoral, the author of the song sure composed a song that fit Jose Jose so well. Your review was terrific and of high quality. On another topic I would recommend that you listen to Hugo Avendaño a great Mexican baritone famous for singing old Mexican Waltzes and ballads. Also, I recommend that you also listen to Demetrio Gonzalez a ranchera singer with a voice similar in style and quality to that of the great Jorge Negrete.
He was acting and singing, so beautiful.
You are such a beautiful woman coach! 😍😍Salu2 desde mexico
