  • “Russia is really feeling that the war isn’t going as they see fit and Putin wants to do everything to make sure he prevails.”
Putin’s “bravado” is all “bluff and bluster” as Russia is “really concerned” with how the war with Ukraine is going, says former British Army colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon.

As the previous person said, this makes the crews operating ATCMS vulnerable. My suggestion would be a strategic move for Ukraine. It would allow further attacks to be made into Russia in the future... But the most sensible reason is - the Ukrainians havevbeen trageting air assets over this last week and a half, paving the way for the F16s they are about to start using. A new batch of pilots have just passed training, and those jets will be in the air in the next few weeks. The aid package from the states, along with all the new funding from the west is going to enable to push the Russians right back to the border in most places. I expect the Kerch is high on the agenda, as well as pusing the Russians out of Crimea and securing their southern border.

As someone who grew up with MAD pounded into my head in school, it really is strange to see this conventional warfare mindset occupy the brains of Russia, and it's also concerning as it is shifting the framework away from "nukes is a safety guarantor." Or at least it's shifting that perspective for them.

Let's be clear, the only scenario in which this happens is if Russia continues down this path and worsens it.
I think that Russians have this vision that Americans want to dominate them, in like a humiliation ritual sort of sense. But it just seems to me like a projection of their own perspective on how they view other countries.
I was watching on their state TV a few months ago some guy talking about how Russia should unilaterally annex Kazahkstan because Kazahks love it in Russia because "they come work in Moscow as pizza delivery boys and get a salary." Like, what? I can't even...
I could be wrong, but it certainly explains why they would think that's how others see them or want to see them.
