I got one thrown in as an inducement to buy a mint 2nd hand Leica SL. I wasn't expecting the lens to be very much, but when it arrived, it was still in an unopened kit box with original paper work! I bought the Leica to use with an adapter with my prime manual focus "M" lenses, but to my surprise I found that the little 20-60mm has remained attached to the SL on many day trips out. Never thought I'd be into using auto focus zooms - let alone plastic fantastic ones!
This kit lens was the only reason why I switched from the mft to the FF (S5). My copy is incredible sharp; sharper than respective Panasonic‘s prime lenses except the Panasonic 50mm f1.4; the S5 with this lens reproduces much more details than the excellent G9 with the 12-35mm f2.8 PRO (!) lens! The only reason I don’t use this lens very often is that I‘m mainly for landscape photography where I prefer to use the 70-200mm f4.0 lens!
Thank you for this video. Recently I discovered some money I was unaware I had. What to do with it? Buy some camera gear, of course. Bought a S5ii with the 50/85 1.8 lenses. A nice setup. Maybe I should have purchased the 35/1.8 instead of the 50/1.8. This is my first full frame camera. I have been satisfied with my LUMIX M43 gear. I’m hoping to enjoy this larger sensor body. Was watching another RUclips video and decided to buy this lens. Found it on MPG for $210. ETA in a week. For general walkabout photography I like a good zoom. Small. Lightweight. A good choice of focal lengths. Inexpensive. I was having second thoughts about my impulsive decision. I mostly do street photography in the 35-50 range. I don’t need a fast lens. My question to myself is will I ever use the 20-35 end of this lens? If I ever start doing video I have the right gear. The lens price is more like a M43 lens. Could this lens be any good at this price? It seems the answer is yes. I’m so glad. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Bomjour mon ami! Seems like a few quid more would get you the Sigma 18-50mm, which IMHO is all around a better lens, although without the reach of your 20-60. Granted, the big equalizer is the £155 you paid. Where was that?? If it were a bit sharper I might be tempted. Anyway, have a good rest of summer. Cheers 😊
The Sigma 18-50 is a good optic but it’s designed for the APS-C format. I think Damian wanted a full-frame lens to fit his full-frame Panasonic S5ii body.
Very good question.... and depends on what you shoot BUT... having owned this for a while now, I'd say this is gold for the price. With enough light/ tripod, it's a very flexible lens to own.
@@DamianBrown I like to take mostly photo and I came from a m4/3 system so I’m very curious to see the dept of field of a fast lens on a full frame camera, BUT for now my budget it’s only for one lens, that’s why I’m so undecided
Well, you certainly seem to have got a whole lot of lens for a very good price. Those images look great. Although I am not in the market for that lens, or indeed the camera as I have invested a fortune in Fuji gear, I still found the video interesting as it is always good to keep abreast of alternatives. Your location also looks good and I am more than a little tempted to pop up there from London for a weekend to see at first hand some of the places you have visited. As a photographer you seem to have made a great hit with your attractive model as she seems very happy in all those photos. More than half the battle to get good images is having a rapport with your model. And finally, a question. Have you had a chance to review the Fuji 8mm f3.5?
Smashing video!! Is that your own camera the s5? And what’s the focusing like on the s5 ? Is it as good as a t4 or t5? Because I’m interested in buying the s5ii
One of the most impressive kit lenses for FF. The focal length range just offers a lot, making it a really versatile lens to start out with. The other thing I find really tempting about the S5 is that it’s one of few cameras that offer the 65:24 aspect ratio for digital TX-1/XPan fun. Cropping in post can work, but the black lines of an in camera aspect ratio would make composition a lot easier.
For me, the outstanding feature is the focal length, 20-60 is so useful. I’m not thrilled with the images I get, but I don’t hate them either.
I agree!

I love it, and ye... I used to be a bit of a prime only shooter... but there are zooms that make you think twice!!

Ah I need to try that tele!!
My copy is incredibly sharp too. A superb lens.
I actually never shoot below F4 because I want more of the image to be in focus.
Fair enough ☺️
Thank you for this video.

The sigma is rather nice but yes, it's all about the range on this one. I bought it privately, I think via talkphotography
This is it :) alas I have the mki but yes :)
In your opinion if I have to buy an S5ii, do you suggest to take this kit lens or the 50mm kit bundle? Thank you

Yes I'm putting the finishing touches to the 8mm video!!!

Yes, it's mine. For stills the focusing is very similar but in video it's slightly less confident.

Very good point, honestly hadn't thought about that!!
Where did you get that price? :)

For VIDEO, the kit lens is almost perfect. The range actually is perfect.
1050 pounds for the camera and lens is a very good deal.
Definitely! I think they made a mistake 😅
