    • @danseitsinger6737
      @danseitsinger6737 Месяц назад +1

      NOBODY CAN EVEN COME CLOSE TO MERLE HAGGARD!! I love the fact that there's singers out there who think that they are the next "HAGG". It will be a COLD DAY IN "THE DEEP SOUTH" before we can say that "I heard a guy singing like Merle Haggard". I have to give George Strait a thumbs up though. I think that he was the last GREAT COUNTRY PERFORMER!! You don't have 60 #1 hits in 33 years and not be good(or in his case, GREAT!) This being said, he's still not as good as Merle Haggard. I took a mgmt position in a town that I hadn't heard of before. I was one of 4 Managers for the restaurant "THE Kettle". I had gone into The Kettle restaurant here in Tucson Arizona looking for a mgmt position within Mr. Copeland's restaurants. He said that if I didn't mind relocating, he had the opening for me. My brother was already a Manager for Mr. C. We left for Bakersfield the next morning. It was a long drive and we didn't want to stop anywhere except for gas. We both had more than enough liquids(not alcohol)during the drive and found ourselves in a predicament. When we finally stopped for gas, we both exited our vehicles holding a McDonald's cup(a big cup) and they were both rather full. We just laughed and got rid of the evidence. We arrived in Bakersfield at 4:30pm and decided to go to the restaurant and order dinner. We also observed the staff that was working at the time. They didn't know that we were 24 hours early which made it nice and interesting. As we walked up to the cashier, who was also our Waitress, she was very pleasant and helpful and her name was unavailable. A long story short(er), we asked her if she knew where the Apt complex was that the owner stayed when he was in town? She knew exactly where it was and then began to think that something was Amis. She asked us if we were the NEW MANAGERS that were sent from Tucson Arizona and my brother said " BY golly, you figured us out"! We asked her to keep it a secret until the next morning and she did. We walked next door which was a small hotel with a very nice lounge. We had a couple of beers and was leaving when Merle Haggard walked in and ordered a drink. IDK what he drank but, it was in a hi-ball glass w/ONE ICE CUBE and the filled with a light brown liquid, probably Canadian Club as it was his FAVORITE DRINK!!! Canadian club with a waterback chaser!!We were able to get acquainted with MERLE HAGGARD over the next 3 hours. It was, and STILL IS, one of the BEST DAYS in my life! He was a GREAT GUY and he appreciated the fans! As soon as more people came in and saw him sitting with us, they couldn't help but come over and, very politely, asked him for an autograph. Some even wanted a picture and there were NO CELL PHONES BACK THEN!! A real camera with a real flash bulb!!
