Will Derek Like it? DIY Bedliner for ViceGrip Garage

- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- This video is a highlight of the process of spraying in a DIY Bedliner from Upol Raptor. I've used this product many times, and actually made several videos for the UPOL company, which was very cool to be able to do. It's a strong, versitile product that anybody can spray at home, but it has some rules to follow, which I talk about in the video. Any catalyzed product needs proper PPE, and nobody wants to be unsafe, so I hammer on that a little. IT wa sreally cool to be a part it Derek Bieri'sworld with Vice Grip Garage and to be able to help out on one of his VGG giveaway vehicles!! we may or may not have signed it for somebody to find. :) happy watching! Thanks for subscribing to my channel!!

DIY doesn't always mean easy, but it ALWAYS means that you can actually do it yourself... this one happens to be actually easy!
Great video. Do you have one that shows "hard to get to areas"? Like inside of doors, areas next to a panel that you can't get the gun angle onto? My 32 3-widow was dipped. (was actually DIPPED. LOL) So all surfaces were bare metal. I've searched the "tube" and I've found NO one tackling this issue.
I got primer on everything I can get to, but there are places I can't get coverage. Inside the rockers, I used a long plastic tube with a 4-way nozzle on a rattle can (CAR-REP 2K). I ran it in, pushed the button and then drug it out, but it's messy and I can't be certain it's all covered. Fingers crossed, I guess.
I enjoy your videos, keep them coming.
@@jefscoupe32 In my College Collision courses I show how to use Cavity Wax.... sounds like what you're talking about... long straw, you insert it and spray while you pull it out... I think this is the best you can do on blind panels like that. I'l lshare some of that as well, just finalizing the training modules. Thanks man!

Got yourself another sub fella😊
Glad to find you again through Derek
Me Too! Derek's a great guy! The hardest working man in the biz!!!
Thanks for helping out VGG.
Nice job Kevin, this is a good how to for many that will want to do this. Seems like the way to go for a beat up bed.
Thank you!!! It hides alot of wrinkles, but it also looks fantastic on a full custom with perfect panels.
I've always liked paint matched bedliner. Thanks for sharing, Kevin.
nice job . who ever gets this truck will be getting a real nice truck.
Thanks for covering this kit, I am looking to get the bed of my truck redone and after I saw this on the episode I knew this was the way rather than redone in standard paint that scratches or black bedliners. Awesome VGG brought me over to your channel.
Kevin ur channel is great, you have a great way of teaching and giving us everyday garage mechanics/restorers the confidence and knowledge to get in there and give it a go. Always enjoyed watching TRUCKS! Subscribed and looking forward to seeing more of ur content. Take care
Absolutely awesome video! I can’t tell you how appreciative I am on the quality of the paint job and bed liner!! It’s going to look so good in my garage 👍🏼 Bring it home to daddy!
I was a little shocked at a couple things. One the match was so awesome. Looks to me like its a great fix for an older truck. The other thing is how well it filled in
Looks awesome I’ve always wanted to spray a whole truck
There are son many options with this product!!! I've shot a few exteriors with it...
Glad Derek led me to your channel.
Awesome Job on the bed liner Kevin I want to do the same thing to my truck
Outstanding job!!
😮 looks great! Glad I found your channel, always enjoyed your work.
Awesome as always Kevin, Im sold going to buy my kit asap.
ALOHA from big island hawaii
ALOHA!!!!! welcome friends! :)
Very cool
looks really nice
Looks awesome.
Thanks for sharing the proper process man. You forgot to show the open container of liner getting knocked over and spilling on the boots and popping a circuit breaker when the compressor kicks on, or is that just me that stuff happens to?
Thank you for doing a great job on the truck I hope to win. New Subscriber
Nice
Kevin beat Derek out with the paint video!
Can't imagine I beat Derek to the punch....well, maybe I did on the bedliner one. :) He'll have a complete episode of the paintjob soon!! stay tuned to VGG!
@@paintucation I do like that bed liner. Really good for the money I have the knockoff T Rex brand and it's good stuff.
I’ve seen you now on a few different things. I’ve seen Raptor updates 5 years down the road, and they fade BAD! I’m sure it’s a sponsor, and I get it. Please educate me further…. Is that true? These were real life experiences from people. Did they do something wrong with the tint, or was it the tint??
I've been watching you on TV since I was just a child I was so excited and happy to see you and Derek start working together I've been subscribed to his channel for a few years now and to see you walk in his shop was great
That's awesome! His channel is great! Hope you've subscribed here too... we got some neat stuff coming p and I'm ALL IN on this RUclips thing... I have incredible freedom here, to do what I think is best, not what a NETWORK thinks is best. Derek and guys like him have got it right! thanks for watching. :) KT
@@paintucation well thank you and yes I had to subscribe you deserve the support 100%
I pretty much came here to say this
Childhood and adulthood me have never been so happy, please keep the crossovers coming.
Your channel is going to get a lot more popular, so get ready Kevin. 🤠
Great job on the truck!
Man, I'm so ready!!! Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. :)
Trucks! was one of my favorite shows, and one of the reasons were your paint segments. So glad you're here so we can learn more!
Thanks Ken!!! Lots more coming soon.
Nice job on that bedliner! I'll have to see if it can be applied over an existing fading spray in liner, just to freshen things up
Yea I thought I recognized you Trucks was a good show been a few years.
Wow, getting this old ford painted by you will make it even more special. Definitely a one of a kind for the person who wins it!
We hope so! Its cool to be a part of this truck!
Turned out nice Kevin. Reminds me of Uncle Jesse's truck. lol
Looks Great Kevin. As a chemist who used to formulate polyurethane and polyurea coatings, and has the lungs to show from it, and now sells millions of pounds of what you paint guys call 'hardener' (aka Aliphatic Isocyanate) Guys Please Please Please, read the warnings and listen to Kevin and wear a respirator with carbon filters when you roll and especially when you spray any Isocyanate containing paint or coating. And get some fresh air movement if you can during spraying. Or get out of there right after. Also think about your eyes. wear a full face if you can or some goggles. This stuff will react with your eyes as well. Long term, repeated exposure is the worst.
Dan, I'm a huge messenger of proper PPE!! Thanks for the affirmation on this, it's really really important! I've been able to have a 30+ year career because I'm proactive, and all of my formal training has fresh-air recommendations for prolonged exposure, and eye covering mandates as well. You've inspired me to do another video on proper mask fittment, and protection! Thanks for your note! KT
HOORAY for TETZ! So happy I ran across this channel! Happy to see you on the air again….
8:34 that looks sick Kevin!!! Awesome job!!
I enjoyed your video Kevin. Been following your stuff since your Eastwood days and you’ve never steered me wrong about body work and paint.
Thanks man!!! Glad you're watching!
First time on RUclips that someone mentions cleaning out the gun!
Good job!
DIYers need to understand that a 2 part system will harden IN their gun and ruin it forever. Acetone.
Good deal, great product!! New Sub!! Thanks Kevin!!!
Thats very cool to see a tintable spray bedliner and very cool to team up with VGG
He needs Puddins favorite sawzall paint can mixer for those bottles
Bodywork is where I am weak, and I am so grateful that Derek introduced me to you through the Ford build. Very excited to look through your videos and soak up all I can.
Wow, a bedliner that looks like paint. That's awesome!!!
Always loved watching you on TV. Glad to have found you here! Subscribed.
That means alot!! I apprecviate you!
Very cool! Been wondering how the Raptor/Axalta bed liner products work. The tin table feature is sweet.
Looking forward to se more on your channel.
Been following you for years👍
More coming soon!!!!!!
I have an 85 Bronco II that we raptor lined the whole thing and tinted with grabber blue 3 years ago. The thing still looks great and is tough as nails now.
You guys brought that truck back to life nicely!
That is a cool product, and the old F100 is looking great!
Does look fantastic and white. Derek hasn't announced the color of his giveaway truck yet, but I see here it's white and it looks fantastic.
Great job Kevin as usual, good to see ya back on the Tubes!!!
Thanks Ian!!! We need to "Raptorize" one of your rigs sometime soon!!
I’ve been doing spray on bedliners for 11 years. We use products from US linings it’s the same material as Rhino liner and LineX. Raptor is a great DIY product. We do use it on the bottom of trucks for chip guard Great video
It's super resilient!!! thanks for the affirmation! I really like thecoating.
Maybe those two extra quarts are for the fender wells. Bed bottom.
Excited to find your channel! Looking forward to much more content! Also, truck looks killer!!
I like this guy. He's kinda nutzy, crazy, goofy....like Derek...and me.
Hey!!! I resemble that! Lol! Thanks for watching. 👍
Kevin is freaking cool!! What a master at his trade.
Saw this on VGG and Im a new fan of your work and will be following!
hopefully all of us from vgg comes on over and the channel explodes you are truly a master of your craft.
QUESTION! what is the gun model you used? what tip? and what PSI? THanks!
Actually it's a siphon feed gun that's designed to shoot Lizard Skin insulation coatings... they're thick like peanut butter. UPOL has an adjustable gun that screws on to the black bottles and has an adjustable tip, it's really fool-proof. on a different project I thinned it down by about 20% and sprayed it through a 2.0 fluid tip on a gravity primer gun and you can get a really smooth texture with a vinyl-like grain... it depends on what you're going for, but the coating is very versatile.
I've seen you here and there over the years, so glad to see you working with Derek!
Good video buddy
Easy to watch, fun and informative. Really enjoyed watching..
Thanks!!! Got some new stuff coming up soon!!
Excellent quality Job as always Kevin. Owe the quality of my Defender 90s paint job to your Paintucation videos Kevin.
Thanks Anthony!!! send me a pictureof your Defender info@paintucation.com if you get time.
ive always wanted to know about tinting it .....thank you soo much. subscribed!!!!
Thank you!!!! Lost more on the way. :)
Got two say I learned more about basic painting from you and Rick Bacon than all the others out there. Thanks.
Thanks Man!!! I'll pass that on to Rick!!
Nice. Going to do my F150 this summer.
Just watched the vgg episode of you painting the truck. I have to say (not kissing butt), that every time I see content with you i know it will be entertaining and i will learn something. Like many people, my first exposure to you was through trucks!
You and Ryan were inspiration to just try things. I'm no painter, engine guy, or fabber but watching you though gave me confidence and tips on how to approach things. I've followed some of your work over the years and i am very happy to have found your channel. Thank you.
Nice job ..what is the hardener-does it make it tougher finish, or more about pot life?
I’ve used my Ceramic coating rather then this liner, and only because it reflects Energy and it’s passed all the salt spray tests in the lab. The problem with some coatings is if moisture does get under the coating, it doesn’t allow it out and then it creates bigger problems then what you started with (marinating in moisture)
Very nice looking job you did, I use the same gun as well, I have never promoted my ceramic as a bed liner(I just did it personally)I did subscribe…anyone affiliated with VGG I watch-he is a good feller!🇨🇦
So... crash course..... a hardener ( catalyst) changes the product into something else by crosslinking/activating it. That process makes it super-strong and that's why (modern catalyzed) car paint is so strong. ( this liner is the same) Products that DONT have a hardener allow moisture and other things to penetrate through it, making it weaker, which is what you experience with moisture penetration. Industry designates this as 1K ( no hardener) and 2K (has hardener) This is coverd INDEPTH in my "Paintucation University training at www.paintucation.com Happy to help!!! Thanks for the sub!! Much appreciated.
Kevin enjoyed seeing your and Derek do the painting on the Ford!👍🏼
Glad to see you're still at it. Found you again from VGG I agree the Raptor liner is amazing. I did one in my first new truck years ago put aside a weekend for it and was amazed how little time it took and how well it held up. I just got a new Ram and once the weather breaks I'm doing another one in it
I did a couple bumpers with it and they have held up great. I put the Upol epoxy primer down first. Once my project is finished I am going to do the entire body in Raptor liner. It's an off road truck that'll see lots of bushes and branches. It's original paint is covered in scratches now. One of the great things about Raptor is how easy it is to touch up. They even make 2K spray cans.
Good one! Looks great Kevin
I have a 81 Suburban that I did this to for a full paint job. It's been a good 3 years and it's ok. I wanted something that a wind blown shopping cart wouldn't hurt.
Looks great!! Will you have a video of the exterior getting painted? 👍
A fella may have had some cameras in the booth when that happened..... :)
Great info. Thanks
Kevin has all the dedication
Kevin glad to see you started a channel been watching you for years please keep the content coming
Hey I know that voice .. from hot rod tv!! Man how you doin?
Busy and well!!! Thanks man!
Looks good, always wanted to try this on the inside of my jeep
Alot of Off-Road guys use Raptor... pressure wash the mud out, Yer-Dunn!!!
Hello! New subscriber here! I've been following Vice Grip Garage for a while now, and just discovered your channel
Thanks for the sub!!! Gonna crank out some good stuff!
@@paintucation I need to know how to do panel replacement, sheet metal fabrication, and rust repair. I'd like to fix up my 1968 Impala Sedan.
Looks nice, Did Derick like it ??? We'd all like to know.
Actually, yes! Derek had heard alot about Raptor, but didn't realize how easy it was.... He was really knocked out by the colormatch. I sound like a freakin SALESMAN!!! LOL!
So being subbed to the fella I grew up watching. Great work and great review of the process.
Keep watching!!! It's about to get REEEEALLL!!!! LOL!!! seriously, thanks man. :)
Loved it . PPE # 1
Love this product. I've done not only truck beds but bumpers boat decks and even thined it down and resurfaced a claw foot bathtub with it 5 years ago and still looks new
Awesome, thanks Kevin!
I've used this stuff in alot of places. Cool rapid fire video buddy! Cheers from Junk's Automotive
Man! Glad you’re doing RUclips!Trucks was a major contributor to my life long obsession with cars and trucks! Looking forward to seeing what’s next!
glad to hear you're putting out more content
I had no idea they made tintable bed liner. Thanks for the video. I have enjoyed your videos for a long time and saw you a couple times on VGG. I even referenced you in one of my videos about your LMC Truck videos. New Sub here. Thanks, John
Single stage wimbledon white FTW 👊💪🇺🇸🐎
What an awesome product! Thank you for the video.
Crystal clear and to the point, good stuff !
I have a ‘72 c10 that’s about ready for paint and that’s not a job for me. But watching this video and Derek’s gives a good education so that I know the questions to ask and requests to make in the process of hiring the right person to do the paint.
NNNNNICE! love it! Great video!
tell you what works well if you just want a cheap way of doing it, a schutz stone chip underseal. it works well and sometimes you can find 6 bottles for less than £30 and you can always touch it up for a couple of £. not the best way of course but you get the same result for a couple of years to come.
How come you didn't caulk the seams, and theres an easy dent along the tailgate box skirt you missed!
Thanks for watching. This wasn't about perfection, it was about improvement. :)
@@paintucation One wack with a dolly and hammer ,with a quick lick of seam sealer ,5 minutes big difference.I'm a ball buster sorry!
@@glassblastcollision Heard Chef! I'm not gonna make excuses... we cut some corners, I'll admit it. Consider my balls broken... :)
Great job, Kevin!
You taught me so much when I watched you on Trucks and Eastwood's Hand-On Cars Zed Sled project. Keep 'em coming.
Greetings from Vancouver Island (not quite Summerland, but close enough).

Didn't know you had a RUclips channel since PowerNation. I'm in!
That turned out GREAT! Same color as my 68 F250, which needs new paint. I'll include that bedliner when I tackle that project! Thanks for the excellent video!
Another great aspect of Raptor is that if you get some deep scratches in the bed you don't have to rip down and redo the entire bed. You can literally just go over the areas that need it and aside from you nobody will ever notice. Raptor is really popular in the 4x4 scene for keeping bar work looking fresh for this reason.
Does it make for good undercoating? Seems easy as hell to work with.
@@thJune I wouldn't get it on anything you potentially have to remove or work on later. But on the floor pan of a completely torn down vehicle, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Although I'm not sure how it reacts to heat like from an exhaust. I'm sure someone somewhere has tried it and has reported it on a forum somewhere. Might be worth looking into.
