Good information in the video. I have a 2008 e90 with 145k that has random misfires under load only. If I cruise at 45 and I floor it, the car will bog, shake, switch gears up/down(that's how it feels in the cabin).. like the transmission has a problem. If I cruise at 45 and I manually downshift 2 gears the car will fly and run just fine. I would get random misfires (different cylinders every time). Once I got the code for the crank shaft sensor (I replaced it) I swapped coils, got some new ones, new air filter, cleaned MAF (never got a code for it). I changed transmission oil and differential gear oil. Cleaned vanos... Car has poor gas mileage (20mpg - this is a 328i) and I drive like an old lady because I don't want any misfires. I think all these started when the PCV valve failed on the highway and I realized too late (the intake, engine, catalytic converter...were full of oil. People behind me thought I have a steam engine) :))

Hello, I bought a diagnostic meter just like yours and no error codes. I am convinced it is a bad coil. Do you know why bad coil would not show up on my meter? Thanks
Fixed it! Was a bad coil on #1. Gasket oil leaking just like on your video. Runs great now, thanks so much for your video. BTW BMW quoted me $485 to do this - $224 for the coil -SERIOUSLY. I paid $23 for Bosch coil on Amazon. You saved me a ton of money!!!
Hey man I got a question just put brand new coil packs and sparkplugs in my 330i and it's bringing up a misfire in cylinder 4 and still shows the same after swapping that coil with any I'm thinking it's the ignition coil harness any ideas?
swap fuel injectors, on harness check if the pins are all in, rarely happens but worth checking out, also check pins on fuel injector connectors same principle
I have a BMW CReator hand held scanner..what catagory do i select to see my misfires? I clicked drive, chassis and body but dont know how to get to find misfire codes..please help.
I'm looking at a used 2007 328xi wagon w/170,000. The current owner is frustrated with it and has replaced spark plugs, intake manifold gasket, valve cover w/CCV valve and crank case hoses. He said that headgasket is fine, as well as compression! He's dealing with a random misfire and a p0300 code. It's in beautiful condition in and out. Is it worth taking the risk at $3k? What should I expect, ignition coils, injectors...?
The owner is a BMW motorcycle mechanic and stated that he wanted to do a smoke test for vacuum leaks. Unfortunately he’s too busy and has run out of time. I just don’t want to open up Pandora’s box by taking on someone else’s headache! Thank you for your time!
Any suggestions on quick easy fixing of stripped plastic cabin filter housing screw holes on this model? I've thought of filling the stripped holes with thread locker or permatex and then drilling starter holes. Not sure how feasible that is. What do you think is the easiest best way?
Thank you for video. My e82 cuts out with seconds. I have a 2011 328 Xdrive, with 65k miles on it and it started to misfire on 2 different cyl. I swapped them out and ended up replacing them with Bosch coils , only to have more misfires pop up in different cyl. it got worse , now I have misfires in all cyl and a random misfires and all coils were changed out including the 2 newest ones with Bosch.. Misfires are still there.. And will not go away, All 6 plugs are also new BMW spec.. I'm at wits end .. Because nothing seems to fix the misfires...
Inspection is necessary, coils causing misfire is just most common issue but there many more factors that can cause a misfire. Get it scanned at least, air leaks are major reason for misfire as well
I keep getting 29D0 and 29D2 on my 335i. I don’t know why MHD mentions 29D0: intake air temperature sensor short circuit to B+. I heard it’s just a cylinder 4 misfire, so I wonder if it’s the coils or the MAF sensor 😕

Great vídeo! Really helped but quick question I have the same car and it also has oil inside the spark plug well I changed the spark plugs on misfire 2 and 6 and it still has problems do you think it’s could be because of the oil inside or because of the coils? Thanks hope to hear from you
Most likely coil, oil in spark plug well is caused by valve cover gasket leak, in some severe cases valve cover gasket leak can cause multiple random misfire due to massive air leak
