    "It's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around." - That one lyric has stuck with me for years. Anytime I feel like I'm somehow trying to boss anyone around I think about this lyric and it's an insta-humble for me. Same, it's such a metaphorical and demeaning line, plus the switch to almost funk with the guitar. It almost sounds like Waters singing the two verses until he hits you on the third and you instantly think 'Oh yeah, that's him!' Still great vocals from Gilmour though. But Roger Waters is Pink Floyd and despite some decent stuff (Division Bell mainly) after his departure from the band, it no longer was the Floyd we knew from that point on. Such an amazing band, I thank my dad regularly for introducing me to them.

    This is where, internally, Pink Floyd started to grow apart. Where Waters took over the reigns completely and wrote songs about oppression and the pitfalls of society. Such songs with similar themes can be found on earlier Pink Floyd recordings, but this time it's a complete album. Personally, I feel that "Animals" is the last of the great Pink Floyd albums, bar the 1994 surprise "The Division Bell", and is in their top-three after "Wish You Were Here" and "The Dark Side Of The Moon". Next up is 1979's "The Wall" and that one is a bit of a Roger Waters solo album in that it's completely autobiographical with excerpts from Waters' life poured into biting social pamphlets. But I'm getting ahead of things here. Roger has always been socially critical and rightly so. But he should have diverted those feelings in solo projects. I love "Animals". Songs like "Sheep" and especially "Dogs" are masterpieces only Pink Floyd could have come-up with and certainly only them could have played it the way they were played. Cheerio lads. Warm greetings from Belgium.

    • @JimmyRJump
      @JimmyRJump Год назад +3

      @@shecaso I have all of Roger Waters' releases with most bootlegs included, and you're right. Without the rest of Pink Floyd it isn't the same. That's one of the main reasons why the releases are called solo albums. I also have David Gilmour's solo albums and hey, guess what, they're 'not the same' as what Pink Floyd used to do. Nick Mason has a few solo albums, but they're mainly re-hached Pink Floyd material. I also have a few tidbits from Wright, but those are preliminary Floyd tracks, piano bases for development into full songs. With "Animals" Waters started to go solo with the rest of Pink Floyd as backing band and it didn't sit well with Gilmour and Wright and everything went South after "The Wall" and Roger's ideas about how "The Final Cut" should sound. Pink Floyd didn't sound the same without Waters either. "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" is, apart from a few songs (two) a total shambles and should be erased from memory as fast as you can. Bar "Dogs Of War" which sounds like a David Gilmour solo song anyway, and "On The Turning Away" which is a full-fledged Pink Floyd song.

      Same here, my senior year in high school. I loved the artwork, and bought the Vinyl LP and also the 8 track that I played in my brand new Pioneer super tuner with big coaxial speakers mounted behind the back seat on the panel under the window with the deep well of the trunk below. It was a 63 four door Chevy Nova. I jammed that album many many times while driving. Favorite memory was with a few friends, pulling into a farm field, while watching an approaching supercell thunderstorm with crazy lightening smoking joints. Oh yeah!

    Just deeper than most any song you will ever hear.

Still claiming to be the dogs?... 'Pigs' is about politicians & high society with their greed. And sheep is in reference to the more common person who just follows the path life sets for them without questioning it.

    Well gents, that just made my morning!! Dogs is such an epic piece - so many moods woven throughout, seamless transitions, and then come the lyrics (which you definitely need to delve into!) - each one of the songs on this album detail an 'animal' which corresponds to a grouping of people in society. The dogs are the predators, the high-level businessmen, the 'fat-cats' as it were, who will put on the façade of friendship/cooperation in order to get the deal, but will stab you in the back on a moments notice!
    The middle groove (before the line 'dragged down by the stone') is probably one of my favourite sections of any PF song, second only to the entirety of Echoes!
    Can't wait to see/hear your continued journey through this masterpiece of an album - bring on the Pigs (Three Different Ones) and Sheep!!!

    Agressive, but deep and meaninful lyrics and stellar guitar playing, fantastic sound fx, great synth and drums blending, just an all round amazing album.
    It's often overlooked because it was released between Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall which were big hitters indeed, but Animals holds it's own musically because it is so different in style and substance.
    Cheers for the reaction vixeo guys, quality guarenteed.

    Dogs is straight-up GANGSTER (actually, the entire album is.) Oh, and the acoustic guitar is in drop-D tuning. That gives it a much more ominous vibe, yet still beautiful to the ear. Gilmour's vocals on the first half are so damn honest and eviscerating it almost hurts listening to it. Same goes for Waters on the second half.

    And the last song says “I care about what happens to you and you care what happens to me..”. And talks again about the weight of the Stone (last Pigs on the Wing)…the stone I guess being whatever weighs on you as an individual.
