In 1973 this album was like a UFO landing in your ears.
What do you mean in 73??
It’s still a UFO to me, but with past present and future back drop!
Best album ever!
hahahaha.....perfect
100%👍
It still is, to this day
I LOVE that analogy! I have been an electronic music junkie since the late 1960s and I have always really enjoyed On The Run and Any Colour You Like from DSOTM. My all-time favorite track from DSOTM is Great Gig In The Sky - truly breathtaking.
Clare Torry said more with no words that most singers say in their whole careers.
I was 13 when they hit us with this album. A completely new sound. We smoked a lot of herb listening to this album. And then pontificating the meaning behind the songs. This Album still holds the record. For the amount of years, not months on the Bill Board Charts. And again this is the 70’s. So they really blew us away with it. This is their finest album. I’m glad you guys are checking out the music of my generation. And I’m a very big fan of the two of you
I was probably around the same age. I saved up all my allowance to try and get this album but it was sold out everywhere I went. I asked my mom to take me everywhere to find this album finally found it in Torrance California where I used to live at the mall. But I didn't have enough money. I remember stealing it putting it down my pants and walking out with it. Met my mom outside in the parking lot and she thought I bought it. I had to have it, and it was worth it. Everybody had this album.
I could have written your every word my friend!
Lyrically deep, deep, deep as well.
Album turns 50 this year!😳
@@josephclarke4244 Brother it was the greatest time to be alive. And I didn’t even mention. Parts in the album. When their speaking. Sharp, Shop, Shot !!!
The Beatles already taught us to look for hidden messages. And another part, where someone says. I know I’m mad, I’ve always been mad. And I just watched a video on this. Those clips were recorded at Abbey Road Studio. In which McCartney had also had a clip. But they never put it in. 2 Musts for any of you younger listeners. Headphones on Max Volume. And a good joint or a bowl of some killer weed. And let your mind expand.
@@Justchemicals Lol please don’t make me feel older than I already am 😎
When the grandparents have all the cool albums stashed away in a cabinet 😎
I remember an interview with Dave Gilmour saying he wished he could have had the same experience the rest of us had of hearing the finished album for the first time. You don't realize that an artist never has that chance. I totally get what he meant.
In that or a very similar interview, he also said “with headphones” while listening for the first time.

This album WAS the drug. Nothing else needed.
Even my 80 year old grandma liked this. Mind you, we smoked so much hash in her front room when she went to bed, I wouldn't be surprised if some filtered up to her room..
No diggity bro
We will still be listening to this in 90 years while in space
This album gave me goose bumps in my youth and still does today aged 60. A music masterpiece!
Thank God! Finally a reaction that plays Time and The Great Gig In The Sky together. One leads into the other. To NOT play them together is sacrilege.
2023 will be 50 years...I was 15 when this came out and this still is pound for pound THE best album of all time, nothing has ever come close...ever and it never will.

This album is fifty years old in 2023. Still sounds as fresh today and better than anything that’s produced today. This will be one of the most legendary and important albums ever made in my opinion. And still in fifty years or hundred years time it will be as relevant as it was when it was made. Just can’t fault this album in any way.
The lyrics in Time have more effect as you get shorter of breath and one day closer to death. Greatest band ever to me... Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin and RUSH will get you lot of views
Every note of this entire album is burned into my soul. 🤘✌️
Why everyone’s assumes you need drugs for floyd songs just baffles me. It’s the best music I’ve ever heard period.
Don't NEED drugs for Floyd, but if you do indulge, and then happen to listen to Floyd, and start to hear ALL the tiny little notes they play in the background of the major part of their tracks, well, one can travel dimensions. Or so it seems.
There is a reason why this album was in the top 100 billboard charts for over 7 years. It's truly one of the best ever produced.
Thank you for listening to this album the way it was intended to be heard. Not broken up into individual cuts. This was groundbreaking when it was released. And is still, to this day, a gold standard of musical exploration. And yes, "high" is definitely the best way to listen to this music. And I have a pretty good bourbon buzz going right now myself.
I never get tired of hearing Clare...
Ad-libbed in two takes.
One of the most legendary vocals in rock history. 🤘😎
MUSIC history...
Yup...and the more I hear it over the years -- the more amazing-- I realize --she was. One of those magical historical moments that will resonate throughout all of Time.
One take
@@LrngMn2 full takes and part of a third. The song was constructed using these takes.
The reason why so many consider this one of THE GREATEST albums ever produced if not THE GREATEST is not because the tracks morph into each other, but because it takes you on an emotional roller coaster and paints a picture about all the different aspects of life.
'Welcome To The Machine' young man.
Peace and Blessings from the SF Bay Area Cali.
And the album completes a loop… as the closing heart beat is the same as the beginning of the record. A true work of genius, using innovative recording techniques and the latest in recording technology. It’s an album you won’t ever stop listening to once you’ve heard it.
Clare Torry's voice OMG I feel this every time I hear it like it's the first time. Jesus such feeling and emotion.
Thanks for playing it as it should be heard. Refreshing to hear Great Gig hot dropping out of Time.
The beginning heartbeat baby crying out 'til the Great Gig in the Sky , a lifetime
The song between "Time" and "Great Gig..." is actually titled "Breathe-reprise" That's why it's so similar to "Breathe."
The music on this album could take you away from whatever thoughts were bothering you, and the lyrics made you contemplate your entire existence. IMO, it’s the best album ever.
The video games probably took cues from Floyd, this was 1973. Pong was just coming out.
Great reaction as always. Easily top 5 albums of all time, probably #1
The ending solo was completely spontaneous. What a vocalist!
You gentlemen have been struck with ethereal bliss. The legend of Pink Floyd will continue forever just like Bach and Mozart. Musical geniuses.
Peace,Love and Unity 🙏
Overall, the greatest album ever made imo. Musically, lyrically, production, engineering - it has the best of everything. Glad you're listening to the album bc several songs just don't go without the one prior to it or after it. You guys rock! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
It definitely doesn't hurt to have Alan Parsons in the studio engineering for you...
Dark Side of the Moon is really special; before the microwave age when we had to be patient! It's like a long amazing piece of poetry to music, you allow your mind to take you on your unique journey listening to the album. Never tire of it, even after almost 50 years of listening. It fills my soul...🙂
i´m so glad to see your generation cherish this. may i suggest something here? the way you like them, of course now you will go straight through their 4 main concept albums, dark side of the moon, wish you were here, animals & the wall. and that is perfect, BUT: pleeeeeeeease do at least two of their live performance soon, so you can experience them on an unfathomable level and understand what force they are: 1) COMFORTABLY NUMB Live Pulse 1994 2) ECHOES Live in Pompeii 1972.
Agreed, they are a class act live, and the lightshow just adds the magic fairy dust for an all-out leave the body experience.
Ya. I had the pleasure,of seeing them in a soccer stadium in Canada after this album came out. A once in a lifetime experience. Never been to a concert where u were taken away on a such a journey. I am forever grateful to have had this experience.
And going into side two, it just gets more impressive. Genius Masterpiece for the Ages.
Agreed! As much as I love side 1 and as ingenious as it is, if I had to pick I would choose side 2. Loving this reaction!
Gentlemen, I think you'd enjoy looking up the story of Clare Torry's vocals on "The Great Gig in the Sky." She showed up at the studio for what she thought was an audition. They gave her essentially no direction other than to listen to the music and sang what she felt. She had no idea what to do and just made it up on the spot without a clue as to what they wanted or were even looking for. They did two takes, then dismissed her. She thought she lost the job because she didn't know what they wanted, and wasn't aware that they had used it until the album came out. What she didn't know is that the band didn't know what they were looking for either, but they were stunned after her performance and then knew that what she did is what they were looking for.
Good job, guys, doing the whole side 1 without stopping. Looking forward to side 2. It truly is one of the greatest albums (and bands) of all time. I was 19 when this came out in 1973. The album was on the charts for over 14 years.
Well this is beautiful, I've got one channel doing all of Dark Side of the Moon and another doing all of The Wall - listened to both all the way through when I was 14, it's what really solidified me as a classic rock fan.
67 years old and remember the exact moment I went over to a friends house in Denver and he said You Gotta Hear This. Could not freeking believe my ears. Listened a thousand times and still can't.
I ain't gunna lie, for many years I thought it was a black singer on Great Gig (as did most people). I'd never heard white girl sing like that, lol. Google up the story behind that vocal.
Am 66 yrs old now. Blasted it in my Camaro 8 track Craig Powerplay when it first came out. Am listening to my half speed mastered LP of it that I have owned for 45 years as I type this. Where has the time gone??? My favorite album of all time...
Great Gig is both the pain of dying and mourning and the utter joy of meting the Lord face-to-face
Great to see this reaction of amazement, discovery and genuine puzzlement as to how anyone could put all this together….😏and dont ask me, Im still wondering after 50 years 🤣
Oh yes I was totally high when I was listening to this back in the day. I'm 57 years old. Brings back memories.
You've just entered another dimension, a dimension of depth only Pink Floyd can bring you into. Hang on and let the music direct you into a joyous adventure.
I was standing in One Octave Higher on night 50 years ago (as of this writing). The new Pink Floyd had come in that afternoon. My friend Dan worked there. He opened a copy and put it on. I stayed, listened and bought one. I still have it in good condition. I felt the music's power to change on that night.
Awesome reaction, great to see the banter and enjoyment of a masterpiece. You have to react to Pink Floyd Echoes part 1 and 2 live Pompeii 1972, amazing music and artistry.
I feel that this was the beginning of a Collective Navel Gazing. Perhaps, the Beatles began the concept album and the Who and The Beach Boys had their albums, also, but the lte 60's were not main stream Americana yet. Radio was still AM and Top 40, and albums were listened to at home, or at some parties. But the 70's ushered in recreational drugs that entered rural America, and the suburbs, and FM radio stations began branching into album rock, and we had cars with 8-track tape decks. And we had innocence. It was all new. And we learned about each other through Rolling Stone Magazine and High Times. This was the album that shook our world; a Collective of teens and young adults, completely separate from the generations before us. This was US, Completely, and we listened, high as hell, with our friends and alone, over and over. And the parents never knew. The police didn't know. No one over 30 knew. Only we knew this was happening. And...Love the O's hat. 🙂
You have perfectly described what it was like.
I never got into Pink Floyd till about I was 35 and just loving it.
Well done guys.Thats how you listen to P.F, Keep it up
On the run sounds like an airport to me guys....and to me that's exactly what it is! Saw them on the PULSE tour in 1994. Greatest album ever recorded.
Clare Torry finally got writing credits for her improvisation . Deservedly made many millions. Originally she just got the backing singer session fee of £30($45).
This was what we called Head Music back in the 70’s. It took your head places!!
You guys being involved in music more than just listener’s you should check out Rick Wakeman he was the keyboardist for the group Yes he cut an album in 1974 with I believe THE LONDON PHILHARMONIC called JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH it’s a 4 sided album each side of the album is a different part of the journey you’ll enjoy the trip 😎
Yessir! You HAVE to get this on vinyl!
Always pleased when my brothers discover Pink Floyd..
Growing up in a world of Soul, R&B, then Rap and Hip-Hop, you've heard the name of the band but it seemed in a genre that belongs in the world of 'those other folk', not yours… plus, little to nothing about Pink Floyd will get a man on the dance floor…
But..
When you finally discover it. "BOOM!"
You still wont dance, but you'll lock yourself inside your bedroom and orient the speakers toward you and immerse yourself within a cocoon of them. It'll get into your bones, and you will carry them with you forever… at some point, you might even let it slip to some of your homies that you listen to it and you unabashedly love it. Then, you'll get a revelation that they too have been keeping the very same secret. One that has no business being a secret at all..
Pink Floyd should be galactically mandatory listening, like Beethoven, and The O.D.B..
Next priceless gem: Steely Dan
Welcome to ‘Pink Floyd’, guys.
I bought it on the day it was released, in 1973, aged 17.
And I still have it. Hard to imagine it’s the 50th Anniversary, 2023.
Mind blowing! 🎶❤️🎶
That’s cool you were able to find this album in segments like that
Yall are the shit for listening to Floyd on record. Wish i can here them for the 1st time again but ive been listening to them since i was in diapers
I cracked up when you said that On the Run sounded like a video game from that time. Written in 1972, before video games existed, this was pre-digital, all analog synths mixed and recorded on tape. 50 years old and *still* ahead of its time. And you're right, you do have to get it on vinyl so you can drop the needle, put on the headphones, turn out the lights and enjoy. 😎
Amazing, mind-blowing music. A lot to consider there!
Mans literally paused it 2 seconds before the greatest drop in history.
The last song 'Great Gig In The Sky' is a must listen. Live at the Pulse concert. Spectacular!!
I would say thematically, you begin with running the rat race (On the Run), which ends up blowing up in your face (explosion at the end), which moves into time, and the question of the meaning of time, time on this earth, time with family and friends, time at work, time in pain, recession, loss, love, hate ... Finally, you have the wailing of love loss (Great Gig in the Sky). Here, I think of the mother who's lost her son to war and the tragedy therein. You've got the initial searing pain, rending of clothes, the mother's wail, which moves into remorse, acceptance, long-term sustain which never leaves her, which she takes to her grave. All this is why this album is a top-five all-time best-seller that charted some 963 weeks! This monster album above all monster albums is what brought on The Wall, brought about by Rodger Water's feeling of alienation from the fans, the massive size of Floyd's success becomes too much for a simple human being to handle. Many dream of success and its positives, but The Wall really shows how massive success can do way more harm than good. Great stuff.
Love your show. This album was on Billboard 200 for 917 consecutive weeks!
As a 67 year old man that obviously grew up and lived through the greatest period ever in regards to music. I am glad you guys are so in to this type of music...One point I'd like to make is this. If you listen to the music and imagine what great musicians it took to perform this music, can you imagine the genius it took to write it? I can not. Enjoy...
Great reaction. And you have the flip side yet to experience and be blown away by. It does not slack off.
50 yr old Mastery... Who could do this today even with all the gadgets now. Lotd luvs ducks.... Claire Tory and Great gig in the sky!! No can or ever will do it as she did.
1000's of listens never loses its spark.

Yeah. Welcome to a masterclass in vocal performance without words. The best ever. 👌
Those sounds predate Pacman by 7 years. The album and Pong were both released in 1973.
Gents...I really enjoyed your takes, expressions, and joy for music with this....nicely done.
Time is my all time favorite pink floyd song
Great reaction there, you have to watch them live to get the full experience, 'PULSE' concert at Earls Court is fantastic all the way through, every song will blow you away. three cheers to you and thanks
11:50 that moment you said "Wow", took me back to 1978, 79, when I first heard that part of the solo in "Time" and my life was changed instantly. Love also your reaction to side 2 of Dark Side of the Moon
I was 10 when this came out. A bit young to listen to it at the time but within a few years I found it and it has been my favorite album throughout my life. I return to it over and over again and it still blows me away. I have always wanted this to be played at my funeral, hopefully years from now!-but it has always been there for me through thick and thin. A masterpiece of music, creativity, lyrics and concept. So glad you discovered it and appreciate it too. I’ll be waiting to see your reaction to side 2 and other Pink Floyd albums. You are in for a treat.
Welcome to the club gentlemen, we love having you! #pinkfloydfandom
Those cries and wailings of Claire Torry are the throes of death. To relinquish ones life freely when it's time. Hauntingly beautiful.
you both know a lot about music. I love your reviews.
I saw pink floyd 1994 estadio jose de alvalade in lisbon.
Best concert I've seen to date.
I remember when this hit the radio, everyone at school was talking about it.
The second half of the show on the Pulse tour in 1994 was this album, played in it's entirety. Worth the watch, for sure. That version of Great Gig in the Sky will move you.
I sparked up my pipe for this reaction, as I do to all Pink Floyd songs. Thanks
Really enjoyed your reaction and comments Gentlemen. Thanks.
I had a Pioneer 8track AM/FM receiver and speakers when I was in HS. Every night I would listen to this album with my headphones and I would fall asleep .
The great gig in the sky reminds me of the courage of close to the edge by yes, redefining what music can be.
Still sounds fresh to this very day and forever ♾️
Oh, the memories come flooding back.
More munchie music…. This was a period in music where you had to be there…BTW, there was no video games back then, lol
Atari came out not too long after this album.
First time I ever heard screaming as an instrument! 😆💖💖💖
Alan Parsons who formed his own band , the Alan Parsons Project, was involved in the production of this works. Can hear occasional undertones of this album in the APP works. Thanks
When one of my sons was attending high school we had a lot of problems to wake him up.
On day I plugged a radio / cd in his bedroom and played loud the alarm clocks and the Big Ben from "Time".
Two or three sessions of this therapy works fine to make them early birds.
I'd like to share what happened when Pink Floyd did their Dark Side Of the Moon concert tour here in Montreal.
They played in an open stadium, seated over 33,000, not counting seats on the field itself. Very close by ran a major 3 lane in each direction highway, and over it, ran a cable into the stadium, landing behind the stage. So as the song On The Run climaxes with the crash, a large, flaming airplane ran down the wire and crashed behind the stage on cue!! Even though there were no cell phones (it was 1974 I think), police received many calls about the 'plane crashing at the show' (they knew there was a show because of all the lights, and probably, knowing how loud they played, by the sound). Luckily, Pink Floyd had let the police know in advance, so that went well. I bet no band/group would be allowed to do THAT again.
You also hit on something when you mentioned that you had a whole movie going on. I believe that is why Pink Floyd never made any videos to their music, at least not until decades later. They allowed their listeners to have the music invoke their own videos/images/movies.
Also, I have always personally considered Pink Floyd in a class of their own. Nobody else in their niche. Same with Led Zep.
And, yeah, I'm 63, it's finally legal in Canada, and I STILL like to every now and then, lie down, headphones on, lights off, and away we go......
Oh my, I had this poster on my bedroom wall and T Rex on the other wall, brilliant, what a great time for music to be a teenager 💕🙏
So glad you guys got it!! Enjoy
All things are connected. It's a rule. The fabric of the universe depends on it. Without it there is only chaos. Pink Floyd does a wonderful job of painting this picture with sound. There is only one thing and we are all a part of it.
on the run was just so far ahead of its time when it was released in 1973
The Pulse concert 1994 live is one of the best ever put together.
Thank y'all! I want sure what music to set to background my day.
I started off with Johnny Winter and Albert King but it's not that kind of day. Then I tried the Eagles, 10 Years After and The Moody Blues but it's not that either.
Y'all nailed it.
Pink Floyd it is!
At first your afraid and then you accept after comes peace. Great Great Gig in the Sky! No words needed.
Saw them in concert at the Philadelphia Spectrum when this album came out. It was epic!
It truly warms this old heart to see younger generations and people who probably didn't grow up with this style or genre of music, discover bands like Pink Floyd and really REALLY take the time to listen them, and more importantly, appreciate them with the passion you two display. The drop, so to speak, coming off the guitar solo in Time is one of my favorite pieces of music of all time, you nailed the analogy, it truly hits hard, like a punch in the gut. Great job guys, keep on keepin' on!! ✌️💚
FUN NOTE: I haven't tried this in a long long time, and there is much controversy on whether it was done intentionally or not, but they say, if you start the album Dark Side of the Moon (there's an exact moment you'd have to google) right around the time the move Wizard of Oz goes from black n white to Color, and let the movie play on mute simultaneously with Dark Side of the Moon, that it's fits the movie perfectly as a soundtrack to what's happening on screen. Like I said, haven't tried it since I was a kid, and I was stoned with a bunch of friends, so I don't remember how accurate the story is, but some swear by it.
I LIVED IN MAMMOTH LAKES, CA. IN SNOW. I TOOK TWO ALBUMS WITH ME..."DARK SIDE OF THE MOON" AND "YELLOW BRICK ROAD". AND NEVER TIRED OF EITHER!!!
