I like the way Kiralee used the bodice material for the bottom of the cape and skirt. It pulled the outfit all together.
It's also giving Anna especially with the frost tipped mountains in the back. You each look like gobbit versions of a girl trying to save her sister from the frozen wastes.
I love the cloak and skirt so much! Was so happy when you decided to get the green leaf fabric and that you had time to make the cloak!
This is my favorite kind of content! On vacation in the Ozarks last week I went into a thrift shop that was having a special
-- Fill a bag for $10. And they had an amazing scrap fabric and linens section. I went nuts! I've already sewn a vest and two skirts from my gleanings and have plans for many more! Yay thriving and upcycling!

I'm glad you figured out how to not have to cut the yellow chiffon, so you could use it again for something else. :) I did that with a skirt in the plaid-my-mom-hates, it's all big rectangles I can repurpose if I decide I hate it as a heavy outer skirt.
Also really amused that you both chose similar colour palettes. Very cute, both of you!

I was so jealous you found an AG doll at your thrift store. We don't see those in WV. I went to GW today and found a beautiful doll I couldn't pass up. I never looked up how to identify an AG doll so I bought her and looked it up at home. My first AG doll and she's Felicity. I am just so excited. I've dreamed of having one ever since I watched you with one of yours. I hope I find more, you've got me hooked on them.

Loving the scenery on this video. You are both so convincingly hobbit.
The other way to do the shoulder seams on a lined vest like that is to fold in the front strap the appropriate seam allowance, slip it over the back strap to the right seam allowance on that, and then top stitch the two together.
I once made a self lined front laced bodice and full circle mid calf skirt from my stash fabric the night before the next day at TnRF.
That was so much fun! Also, these stores are huge, which so much choice!

The chiffon is a curtain valance.
I don't think it is. The way the embroidery is concentrated on part of it, I think it's a dupatta.

We didn't have any sort of event to wear it to either -- sometimes you just have to pick a pretty park or garden, and get dressed up to visit it!

Thanks! I actually already cleaned up most of her, except for an ink stain on her arm and a small sharpie mark on her torso. I'll be selling her sometime soon, since I already have three Samanthas.
I wish we had anything like your Value Village or similar thrift stores over here! Our second-hand / charity shops are about 200 sq.ft. If you’re lucky, and virtually never have anything but clothes and knick-knacks!

This was delightful to watch. “Sew” glad there was time for the cape. It was just the right finishing touch. It was a sweet surprise to see a Friday video from you. I'm glad you both managed to finish your costumes in just 24 hours. If I saw an American Girl doll in person, I would feel low-key excited, especially if the doll was in good condition. Was your black American Girl t-shirt supposed to be part of your pajamas?
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, this is only the second time I've found one, and both times, it was very exciting (even though both looked pretty trashed!). The AG shirt isn't my pj's, but I just wanted to throw on a T-shirt for the little bit of work I was doing that morning, since I knew I'd be putting on the Hobbit costume soon.

You know it occurred to me that you may not have been born yet (or perhaps only a baby) when hubby & I visited Seattle (& Bellingham) on our honeymoon... that was in January 1991!
