  • Pakistan has been facing #economic challenges for a long time now, and they have become quite predictable. Their reliance on imports and the lack of sufficient dollars coming in have led to several balance of payment crises over the years. Additionally, the influence of the military on Pakistani #politics and the economy, which has resulted in a lack of transparency and accountability in decision-making processes, further exacerbates the economic crises. So, how poor #economics is wrecking Pakistan's future.

The biggest problem is Pakistan's elite class is extremely unproductive. It's one of the most unproductive economies. Root cause is that there was never a time when democracy was able to progress, it's still a feudal system.

As a Pakistani, I would say the real causes of Pakistan's destruction have been:
    1. Corruption (since 2000, Pakistan has lost $174bn to corruption)
    2. Lack of land reforms (feudal lords and family dynasties are to blame)
    3. Prioritising the military over agriculture, education and healthcare (but instead, "Kashmir this, Kashmir that")
The above factors have led to other horrible scenarios that work to accelerate the decline, like a vicious cycle:
    1. Climate change vulnerability (floods, drought, heat waves)
    2. A brain drain (800,000 professionals left Pakistan in 2022 alone)
    3. Overpopulation-low income cycle (similar to what is happening in sub-Saharan Africa).
To make matters worse, we have:
    1. Ideological divides (left/right, Muslim/non-Muslim, Sunni/Shia, Islamist/secularist, socialist/conservative, capitalist/communist)
    2. Ethnic tensions (Punjabis vs Pashtun, Pashtuns vs Baloch, Sindhis vs Muhajirs)
    3. Skewed and nonsensical geography (refer to reallifelore's video)
Toss in religious extremism and terrorism and it's no wonder why Pakistan has turned out the way it has.
Replace Islam with any other religion and you would see no improvement, because Pakistanis are still Pakistanis; ultranationalists who know nothing about real patriotism.

@@user-iy1tl2gv7v ethnic tensions have definitely cooled down, but they plagued Pakistan for decades, starting with partition.
So many rivalries persisted: Punjabi vs Pashtun, Punjabi vs Sindhi. Pashtun vs Baloch, Pashtun vs Muhajir, Muhajir vs Sindhi, Muhajir vs Punjabi.
Things are better now, but we still have ethnic problems, and Karachi is the best reflection of this. The MQM era is long over, but the Sindhi government still discriminates against Muhajirs in Karachi with the ethnic quota system; the system is utterly stupid because it prioritises a person's ethnicity over their merit and capabilities. The biggest irony is that Sindhis themselves are underrepresented in the army, meaning there is subtle discrimination of Sindhis by the Punjabi-Pashtun dominated military complex.
When the Taliban first took control of Afghanistan, lots of Hazaras fled to Quetta, only to be massacred by Pashtun nationalists. The irony is that Quetta was a Baloch city and Baloch people often found themselves in conflict with the Pashtun migrants. There is still some work to do...

As a Pakistani, very well said. The military has been a very big issue. The government spends most of the funds on the military instead of the country. Other reason is that the country is politically divided, with corruption etc. One side never accepts political defeat, and continues to fight, holding strikes which further ruins the country, wasting time, money etc.

The most peculiar thing is that most of these crises are self inflicted as too many of the Muslim World are religiously backward and they always elect strong men with no competence to run the country. This can happen when three critical conditions are met
1-Capability (of leaders, institutions, technology-based governance)
2- Capacity (financial resources, human talent)
3- Integrity (financial, moral & purpose)

the current situation of Pakistan can vary in terms of lack of job opportunities debts, and other factors but the main leading cause could be the military and bad politician's causing more corruption to the economy then it already has. To prevent a full fledged economic downfall they should redo economic policies and get better financial advisors and increase their industry for more job opportunities.

As a Pakistani living abroad I feel so bad for my people. The corrupt military and elites are embezzling and mismanaging the economy. The Pakistani people have been left to suffer in a vicious cycle of poverty and immobility. One thing Pakistan needs to do is to fund more into education. Through education people can exit the cycle of poverty.

The thing about Pakistan is that the government makes policies and decisions unilaterally as they only want one thing. Money. They don't think things through and the they're impatient. They rush decisions which inevitably caused Pakistans downfall. It started its quick downfall just sometime after Bangladesh detachdd from Pakistan. It really shows how dependent Pakistan was on Bangladesh.

In my opinion ,Pakistan's case is different than Srilanka......
Srilanka collapse ,caused by a decade of mismanagement . The people then urged for a reformation of governmental systems. And now it's on the way to betterment.
The key holder ,are the people.
Whereas Pakistan ,the people seems to not care about the national structure /system'. They know that the military are corrupt ,but doesn't do correction. A big gap between the rich and poor ,but there's no action from the people. We can see that recently the rich are buying luxury Cars from Europe ,while their country is struggling hard to maintain it's economy. This situation has been running for decades......
It has nothing to do with China loans and recent global politics......
So the decision is from the Pakistani people itself........if they want to maintain the nation ,they should reform the governmental system' . Perhaps the constitution and laws should be reformed also.

Elite and middle class are surviving, the poor are suffering A LOT, to put into context the upper middle class is made of mid rank level army officers, bank people, doctors, etc , the lower middle class is teachers, startup owners etc. who still can afford to live in decent urban areas on high rents if they limit their expenditures to only needs. The elite are generals, politicians, real estate people, private school owners etc. Everyone has felt the economic crisis and the quality of life has reduced due to the reduction in buying power. There were multiple stampedes in Karachi the economic hub of Pakistan on ration distribution in which 11 people died including women and children, these are usually maids, small shop owners, fruit sellers. Education is getting expensive due to school increasing fees, petrol, buying a car, commute etc. Groceries which costed 2000 Rs are now 3500, the stuff you'd buy without thinking nos you think do I really need this? Not an expert but a citizen it's sad. All this is adding up to crime too. Not everyone may feel it rn but if it keeps going it will be knocking at our doorsteps too.

Most disturbance is due to the recent political happenings since last year when ex pm was ousted by vote of no confidence (basically everyone who has been in power came through the army’s support, the army then kicks them out when they start being naughty) but this guy instead of being okay with it started saying to public that the us is behind this lol) then started a soft campaign against the chief etc. ) now his supporters are calling the ruling party imported lol and basically asking the army to take the ex pm back in their lap instead😂 but everyone have for the first time seen such strong resentment against a much glorified institution everyone agrees elections shouldn't be controlled and demicracy should prevail but that will only happen of all political parties stop d riding the army and come on one page
