In my old company I was asked to make the gate stronger since they've been broken into. I put a 1/2" plate from the bottom to the top of the gate and 2 puck locks (or whatever they're called) with hardened steel plate welded in. 2 weeks later there was another break-in attempt but all they managed to do is bend the small plate holding one of the pucks by 6 milimeters and gave up. They could indeed use power tools but usually it's the guys who want a 10-minute job with at most a bolt cuter and an old pickup truck that attempt such thing.
It's not that you shouldn't use locks, you should use a quality lock that of which the skills to pick is uncommon. If thieves really want something, they will usually turn to brute force
Jim Huang Just because HE makes it look easy doesn’t mean it is. Go grab yourself a proper high security lock like a Medico, Assa Abloy, Mul-T-Lock and try for yourself. I sure can’t do it... destruct entry is probably the tool of choice. Good for insurance. No low skill exploits will work.

@@corktail7900 every single moron keeps answering the same, we don't want a fucking piece of train lock, but instead a good decently sized lock with a stupid good core
@@mr2octavio The problem with that theory is the base rule of security: It's only as good as the weakest link. Smaller locks aren't going to be picked, they're going to be smashed. You can have an unpickable lock, but if you attach it to drywall it's worthless. Your best bet for smaller locks is to find a disc detainer core, as those require special tools, but keep in mind that brute force is the biggest threat to any lock, and more metal is almost always better against brute force attacks.
That is a very useful hard to pick lock when used properly. When used to lock a bike to a car bike hauler, it will not mar the bike, car or hauler. It is also very hard to pick while going 70MPH on the hiway. I timed the pick and compared it to the walk from the driver seat to the rear of the car. I can get there before its picked. So that is a win too. My review is this a perfect for the conditions mentioned above. So when stopping for gas your bike will be secure for those few moments that your not driving and walking to the rear of the car to fill it up with fuel. True, you will not be able to use the restrooms or pick up a small snack. But knowing that your bike is secure with the Frankie lock when on the hiway will allow you to drive without fear of you bike being stolen. Knowing ,with a piece of mind that when you arrive your bike will be there, as long as you walk directly to the hauler. I agree. I see so many very large strong locks with silly four pin cores, and yet a plastic LOTO lock may have a nice six pack inside. It's all backwards. Master Lock is notorious for this.
So I guess you get a "feel" for where the pins are over time? I ordered a lock picking practice kit today (I needed a hobby and this has interested me for a while) and your channel inspired me to take the plunge. So thank you, LPL
When you live in a place where theft isn't really an issue, it's still a nice lock so your bicycle isn't completely open (just to set up a little hurdle). But for that, I just bought the cheapest lock available instead. I still wouldn't buy a Knog, lol.
I have a really cheap lock that's similar style to that lock. It too is difficult to rake and has a really strong spring on the core. I even snapped a pick trying to rake it as it got caught in the wafers. Best way to open it, like this lock is to spp it.
Your channel was randomly reccomended to me and I gotta say that I am enjoying it very much. Very calm and you provide very concise information. This has also rekindled my interest into lockpicking asa hobby and was wondering what a good starter set would be?

I would LOVE to see you diversify a nudge though, some tutorials, interesting locks you've heard of that you haven't picked or have picked but aren't in possession of any longer, locks that you have not managed to pick, more books or sources of lockpicking, locks that are deemed "unpickable" as far as you know, etc.. (The hotel door video was great, was more about external mechanics surrounding a lock rather than the lock itself) Just picking locks in under 30 seconds and showing various design flaws is fun, but with all your knowledge the potential is beyond huge! maybe not good for the most expensive bike but maybe ok for a place like a school that may have other security measures such as a locked fence and gate where the bike rack is inside the locked area and the school keeps the property locked during the school day due to all the attacks on schools in recent years. a thicker cable would be a much better option

One issue you have never addressed: A lock is only as good as the hasp or chain it is attached to. I had a rough childhood, and had been known to break into storage units and garages back in the late 60's and early 70's with nothing more than a crowbar and a 3-pound sledgehammer, totally ignoring the lock. If your goal is to get in and get out, you aren't going to sit there with a flashlight at 3:00 AM trying to pick a padlock!
He addresses this in alot of his videos, just going for the weakest part. In this case you can see from a mile away that it's a wafer core so even if you have to single pin pick, 30 seconds and you are good. No noise, no flash light, etc
