Christina just something about the rats not sure if anyone has mentioned it but make sure the air conditioning is not anywhere near them because they can get colds which causes pneumonia in rats. Also do not use candles, air spray, plug ins, incents, or anything with a scent in the room it can cause sneezing. Wash their fleece bedding with free and clear detergent and no softener.
I love that they have such a big cage! You can also give them bell peppers, kale, and oranges to boost their vit. c

Does this include hair sprays/products, perfumes, cosmetics, wax melts, diffusers, scented house cleaning products?
@@ellaova anything that is sprayed near them can have the potentioal to irritate their airways that also includes wax melts and candles. Difussers with EO is iffy I believe some EOs are safe aroudn them but I am not well versed on which oils are ok. To be on the safe side just spray that stuff in a different room. As far as cleaning products yes they shouldnt be used around them. A vinegar solution to clean the cage is fine. A lot of the cleaning products on the market are also toxic for us but thats another topic. An air purifier is also a great idea. Again I am not a vet and if you have questions regarding the specific health of your pet consult an exotic vet in the area. This is just experience based and working with rats and micr in different setting.
Yes they are prone to upper respiratory infections.

Christina you really are a good person, the way you’re taking care of these rats,spending money on them for the 2 vet visit and giving them the medecine they need, providing them the best happy RATS life possible to me it’s SPEAKING LOUD how kind and loving you are. You are really teaching good values to your kids!!! Jayden already seems like he is a really kind and caring little man. The way he said “ yeah their my rats I paid for them with my own money” real proud to that lady melted my heart xxxx
Thank God she was with you and Jayden and Jeremy-Latte was not only named and loved by a family, but she also got to pass away in the comfort of your home and with people loving her and caring for her. She would have passed in that store all alone otherwise with strangers watching her😩....

I'm enjoying the rat saga so much. Christina went from "ew, under no circumstances am I gonna have a nasty rat in my house" to kissing full blown rat boots in no time flat. So precious.
Also Latte is so lucky to have had you guys. She was able to have love and family in her life, if only for a few days. So blessed!

Jaden is seriously the smartest kid, every time I watch your vlogs I’m so impressed by him! The fact he asked if the antibiotics would be bad if they weren’t sick, I didn’t learn that was a possibility until I started working in healthcare.

He is so smart! To ask if it would hurt them if they wasn't sick and took the medication.. that was such an intelligent thing to think of..🤔😍
Swaddle them in a wash cloth so they can’t squirm, that’s what I do with my cat so it’s easier to give the medication.
I call wrapping the cat in a towel a “purrito” 😅 lol

To reduce respiratory infections keep on top of dust, and be careful what cleaning products you use in the room they are in and don't spray any deodorant or anything in there.
Also scrambled eggs (just pure egg nothing else) or a peeled boiled egg they love as a treat 😊

At least she passed away knowing she had affection and love during her last days. Plus, taking her and the others to veg is smart and not cheap but the right way to care fir any animal being brought home. Love you!!! Sending love and prayers from Jersey. XoXoXo
One of my rats is taking medicine right now and the easiest way to get them to take it is mixing it with meat baby food! Mix it up on a spoon and get them to lick it off. Of course if they don’t typically lick treats this might be difficult but even when mine were scared they’ll do anything for the meat baby food lmao
Awe When you were giving them their medicine I felt that on a personal level. I have a cat that has diabetes and needs to get insulin twice a day. When I first had to give him his insulin injection I was doing the same thing. I am so happy that those rats have you and Jayden to care for them.
I don’t know why but I laughed out loud as you kept telling the rats “sorry” as you were waking them up and putting them in the travel cage 😂😂

That lunch was made with love. I feel so bad for children who only get to eat at school. Here during the virus the schools still gave lunches out to vehicles for children or family's with no food. Aww wonderful mom!

Rats with respiratory problems are so hard to keep alive a lot of the time. At least for me. I’ve had so many. I love that you’re caring for them, it means a lot to me. Rats need more positivity and it makes me so happy seeing someone love them.

What a caring and patient mother you are. My mother is caring too, but in a different way. When she came to visit me, I had not seen her in so long....she also got in bed with me and was hugging me. We had never done that as grown ups before and she started crying.

When I was a kid, my siblings and I had hamsters pets for years. The hamsters always lasted for like two years and we loved them so much. In the day they would fall asleep in our necks, or bellies. We will give them baths every once in a while, always in sunny days and never leave them wet or in the sun. They love fruit like apples and mangoes. I cried so hard when they died too.
You only had her for 2-1/2 days but her last days were filled with comfort and love.. Adore you and your family!❤️❤️

I absolutely love that I'm not the only one that has taken a small animal like that to the vet! I've had to take my hamsters before, it's expensive but so worth it!! You're such a sweetheart ❤

Breaks my heart to hear about the baby. Im so sorry and I can fully understand that you cried. You care about those babies. I know how I was in love with Ollie from the moment I saw him come up to me very carefully. He was sick too and only 4 weeks old... I learned that when I rushed with him to the vet the next day. Finding out he had an upper lung infection. I was just in time luckily and eventhough he wasn’t going to make it... He did!

Hi Miss Christina, long time watcher and I love your videos. That being said I am speaking from the place of having worked in a vet's office for many years - I see a few other folks have mentioned these things and I am going to back them up and add a few more. For starters - keep their cage covered and away from the AC vents. Secondly the issue with the scents and chemicals in general - dont wash their bedding with anything other than dye and fragrance free detergents.
No scented candles, air freshener sprays, wax burners, floor cleaners etc in Jaydens room. You shouldn't use anything stronger than a very mild and well rinsed dish soap ( if not just diluted vinegar)when cleaning their toys/cage. Do not put them down on any counters or floors that have just been cleaned either- it would be better to put something down on the floor that you only use for them each time you take them out (also washed in dye and fragrance free detergent)but I do realize that is going too far for some folks. And finally if you have just spritzed yourself with perfume or put lotion on your hands you shouldn't handle them right away either.
Also those cedar shavings are terrible for all small animals, I know they are the cheapest and easiest to find but if possible pick up some paper based bedding - its slightly more expensive but it's the safest thing to use for any animal with sensitive respiratory systems (rodents,birds,reptiles) and it lasts longer than shavings as it's more absorbent and keeps orders down. Dont mean to come off preachy but I can see how much ya'll care for your critters and maybe someone can use some of the useless knowledge I've acquired over the years. Either way you go I wish you and yours the best.
I know I’m a little late girl, but happy late birthday! I’m so sorry about the rat. It breaks my heart to see Jaden that way. He’s always so excited, but I can definitely tell that he’s devastated about his little baby passing.

For treats for the rats you can take quick oats and peanut butter mix it then just use a spoon to make little balls on a cookie sheet. bake it in the oven on 350 for 10 minutes or until it's brown. It's a good dog treat too. They like peanuts peanut butter granola or anything like that.
I wrapped my fancy mouse (that’s the breed I guess) snug in a wash cloth, to hold her hands down and to make her cozy, and it kept her from wiggling when giving her meds. It made is so much easier then it got to where she essentially liked being swaddled all the time 😂
What helped alot when I first got my rats was talking to the local breeder they are very helpful and know the best vets most likely alot them do have fb pages so that the best way
My daughter is getting my granddaughter rats for xmas this year, For some reason she has a fascination with rats. My daughter is a huge animal lover and is so excited about getting them for her. I cant wait to see my sweet granddaughters face when she gets them.
