@@casuallychristina636 I have a real question because now my 9yr old wants a rat. Because you have a female rat and she was in the cage at the store with males how do you know if she's not pregnant? Is that why your rat will need another female? If so why did they have her in a cage with males.

Watching those hamsters fight was so depressing. They are solitary animals and shouldn’t be together!! And they should have 7inches of bedding to burrow. That was so sad. Shame on that pet store!

But I'm really surprised he told them very important basics about what rats need and showed them how big they get as adults. And they even got a pretty good cage (I saw on her Instagram). That part was great.

I wrote the same thing... “hate” isn’t a nice word, but I can’t think of a better scenario where the word, ‘hate’ is acceptable. Her and Jeremy have raised such a fine, loving, respectable, kind, smart and so much more, young man! He’s a doll.

It really warmed my heart when Tooty said he wanted to be a teacher for the deaf and the Blind. I am blind, and he is right. We don’t want to have people give us sympathy. We want to be just like everyone else. There are certain things we can’t do such as drive the car, but that doesn’t stop us from chasing our dreams. Love you girl! You rock at what you do. You have raised such good kids.
The little rat is so cute! Why are these "pet" stores selling raccoons (that are in such a tiny cage with too many of them to move around), sloths, prarie dogs, etc... These are not meant to be pets!? Just because they're "smaller" than other animals it's still like when someone buys or finds a baby lion, monkeys, and other wild animals and their instincts kick in when they start growing and they turn on you because that's their nature.. I don't understand it. I can't blieve that's legal.
It broke my heart seeing those raccoons in that tiny glass cage. They deserve to be out in the wild. If I lived in Florida, I would go buy all of them and set them free!

Yep exactly.. Just because we CAN own some wild animals- doesn't mean we should. Those animals are less likely to attack you than a lion, but that doesn't make it right to own them.
Jaden is just too pure and kind hearted. He must have gotten that heart for serving and caring for people and animals in need from his mom.

Ok I’m Aussie and we have really strict animals laws here. I am SHOCKED at the tiny confines they keep animals in. I am also so surprised at all the different animals that are allowed to be sold off as pets. It makes me sad for the animals.

I'm from the u.k Scotland and in our pet shops we have small fish, hamsters, mice, rabbits, think that's all, never even seen a sloth before even in the zoo, I would love a 🐒 but again we can't have them in pet shops or even for sale, I've watched videos of people in America having them as pets, I think it's so cruel having them on leads and thing's, I'm happy with our pug he's my baby, well my sons and my daughter has 2 hamsters and a kitten, I'm afraid of cats and small animals lol,

That pet store was more like an exotic zoo. I know it's not safe to have racoons or alligators as pets and I feel sorry for the sloths and prairie dogs. What a crazy place
I don't have kids but if or when I do have one, I can only hope he or she can be as good of a kid as he is. Such a beautiful heart. Very smart and considerate. Whatever you and Jeremy are doing, it's working! Also, I have had rats before and they are GREAT pets. Very smart and social animals. AND he's willing to do all the work for it. Love it!

I know this is meant to be lighthearted and you are just an average pet owner but the conditions those animals are kept in makes me want to cry. Prairie dogs, sloths, raccoons etc are not pets. The amount of animals stuffed into tiny cages is dreadful.
Also, you should know everything about an animal BEFORE you get it (like that they're not solitary animals and you'll need more than one).

Unfortunately that's not the case most of the time. Worldwide ppl have exotic or otherwise wrong environment for the animals. So many animal (and humans) trafficked for money it's the biggest business in the world gross earnings wise. We NEED TO DO BETTER!

I had rats off and on for year!!Once my little ratsies were potty trained and we had formed a bond, I would just leave the top off their cage if I was in my room with the door shut. Ive had many pet mice and ratsies. Rats seem to be A LOT smarter in terms of being able to train them.

Rats are great pets! They’re actually smarter and cleaner than dogs and cats. Can learn their name, learn tricks and become potty trained!!!

Rats are rodents that lives in sewers and trash!! They carry diseases and scavenge on other dead lol!! Rats are bought to be food for other animals... not cuddled with and to play ball with lmao

I had rats because I couldn't feed them to my snake. I had the cutest 2 rats that I had the male fixed so they could live together. I would love to have more male rats, males are slow and calm and girls are more hyper. I have a cat who's a real hunter so I can't have any now

I had two rats when I was 19. They’re so smart and really sweet pets. They get tumors easy after three years so regular vet checks will keep your rat and state of mind healthy 😘❤️ they really are fun pets!

Rats are smart and clean and make good domestic pets. ❤️ However, I’m sad to see that the pet store sells so many wild animals. 😢 The raccoons were pacing from being stressed in the small cage. Prairie dogs, squirrels, oh my goodness there should be laws to protect wild life from becoming domestic pets. Most people wouldn’t know how to care for them.

I think there are in many parts of the US. Florida's kinda infamous for having exotic pets. Theres a huge problem where people will get pet snakes like boa constrictors and release them into the wild when they get tired of them, and now they're invasive species in the everglades. Hopefully they get their act together soon and pass laws against this kinda stuff!

Tell Jayden that he could be a Youth Service Worker for the blind right there in Florida. You work with the blind (or deaf) kids that live on campus. That is exactly what I do in Tennessee. Every state has one and allow the students to live on campus.
You guys have done an absolutely outstanding job raising and parenting this kid. I am blown away by his care, smarts, and compassion. The compassion this sweet boy has is off the charts. If ALL kids could be this way, the upcoming generation would be the most well-rounded adults. I'm literally getting teary eyes listening and watching to him explain his compassion for less abled children and his compassion for animals and how people can be so cruel. Amazing job momma. And Jeremy. I'm at a loss of words for this kid.
Pet stores are cruel, they shouldn’t cage most of these animals, ie the raccoons. It breaks my heart.

I have had pet rats. They're very social and like mini dogs. They need lots of care and house mates💞 just never pick up by the tail.
They're the best pets. Just so hard when they pass. They are so sweet, clean and Fun.

The friendliest, smartest animal I’ve ever had was a rat. His name was Ratty Quotta and he free roamed our house. We trained him to do so using cheez it’s. And when he wanted alone time he would go into his cage and shut the door and when he wanted out he would knock on the door with a little door knocker we made. He loved going on walks with his harness and my husband would make him clothes. We had him for years and I really miss him. He was very affectionate and he loved taking naps with us. They do poop and pee as they run about and it’s just part of having a rat. They are very sensitive to drafts in the home. Once they live in a warm environment it’s good to keep that constant and change the temp a little at time when turning on the air conditioner. I think he’s going to a great home!

Its cool he got a pet. I get you all live in whole different state and such. I would never, ever support a pet store that had half of the animals in for sale. The way a lot of those animals where such tight areas together the aggression was horrible. They all where so stressed. The bird was so chill cuz it has spent most of its life in a pet store many for that matter and is a older bird. They are not ever that clam or quiet.

i adored this! what a sweet boy! Rats surprisingly have enormous social empathy, are very intelligent, and bond closely with their owners! Great little pet for him! Children who naturally love animals this way tend to be hugely empathetic and compassionate people! You're so lucky to have such a loving kid, the world needs more like him!

I have never seen a pet store that tries to be an exotic zoo.
Look for rescue pet rats or pet rat breeders in your area, that would be more ethical than bying from the pet store. Good luck!

Jayden is adorable. He reminds me so much of my son! & after reading the comments, it makes me want a rat!! We love animals at our house! Dog, 2 cats, bird & hamster. & my son is a large part of caring for them!! 💕🐱🐶🐀🕊🐹💞

Rats are extremely smart. You can train them to do just about anything. So with a rat he can start learning how to train animals. And you are not messing anything up! And I'm not just saying this as another Mom I have a lot of experience with children I've been a nanny I worked in daycare I majored in child psychology. So trust me when I tell you you're doing an awesome job. He is kind, funny, good-hearted and he seems like a really hard worker.💜💜💜

Christina, when I was Jayden's age, I had every Animal that I could basically have. My Dad was always bringing home injured etc Birds, Hedgehogs, Squirrels, Lambs etc etc etc. Then people that couldn't look after their Animals came to us. He needs a Russian Dwarf Hamster, we had one and it was super easy to care for and you can buy it a ball to run around in so its not just running around your house😉
