I just wanted to shed some light on saving these fish. If you find then in blue water, it's methalyne blue (it calms the fish but is used for it's antibacterial and antibiotic properties. ) The other dead fish are excreeting ammonia which will burn the gills of any living fish. So right away, you want to get them out of the bag into fresh water...even a water bottle ASAP. Next you'll want to add an airstone if you have one. And then add some almond leaves aka catapa leaves which will sooth any wounds and their burnt gills. The reason these fish are sadly getting tossed, is because the lazy employees see a sick fish and a few dead ones...assuming they'll all die (and they may still die Even If cared for properly). All that said, it is sad to see and not only is it cruel, it is against company and usually state/city laws against not disposing of them properly.
Thanks for this! Isn’t it also true that you want to get the fish out of the bag asap once you open the bag as if you open the bags the air will speed up the nitrogen ammonium toxicity?
@@beccaashley3419 Because PetSmart doesn't throw live animals away. I work here, it's not something that happens. We don't even throw dead animals in the dumpster. These videos are staged

@@Sophia-ni1pw well it's part of their business it's easier to kill and replace the fish than to donate or give the fish for free it's sad but time is money but I've heard if you ask the people in the store if they have and fish they need gone or any that are sickly or about to die but only certain stores other will just give discounts
Be careful to anyone considering doing this! I worked at a petsmart (they were never guilty of this) but when fish did come in I’d say there was a 50% chance they were sick in general. Especially if the other fish are dead in the bag. I rescued so many deformed/sick fish and it messed my tanks up for months even after I quit the job. We would often get ich, fungus, worms, parasites.
I really wish that they would just euthanize these fish instead of throwing them away, if there’s really nothing more that the store can do. It’s so sad and disgusting to see them left to starve, suffocate, and suffer :(
This seriously broke my heart. I watched in pure shock and once the video ended I actually started crying. I can't imagine the pain those little fish felt. I can't believe someone can so easily throw them away. But as horrible as it is, this is something that unfortunately won't change any time soon. Thank you for repeatedly going to save them ❤
They’ve been with dead fish for too long and they don’t want to risk them bring diseases into the other tanks and killing off other fish :( but still its so easy to put them into an individual tank and treat them before selling ;(
I worked at PetSmart for almost 3 years and this is not how we disposed of any animals alive or dead, this is not the corporate practices on how to deal with these things and when they got sick we tried to rehab them and adopt them out so not sure why some stores are doing this but looks like lazy workers
This is an individual store issue. I’ve worked at Petsmart. We took a lot of time to care our sick fish in quarantine tanks and took all dead fish to the vet for disposal. This is absolutely abhorrent!
I’m not sure why they do it either. Maybe they’re sick and just don’t want to treat them? I’m not sure but it’s pretty weird that they throw alive fish out
I already had my doubts about petsmart and petco but this is disgusting. I'm never patronizing their stores EVER again. Thank you for making me aware of this. This is gross.
@@Alix-GP of course you'd say that if you work for them. Why would you have to defend your store if they weren't doing shady shit? BTW, petsmart employees have been coming out with this for years, it's not a recent thing.

I used to get a call from a former employee when they would throw away sick hermit crabs. She would hide them in one box for me to pick up. I have a huge crabitat with everything they need so I would take them home. Only lost 2 total out of 34 that I picked up!
I used to work at a petsmart but quit after being told taking a chameleon to a vet was ‘too much paperwork’ when it had a prolapse and that the death paperwork was ‘much easier’ … they wanted me to either let the chameleon ride it out or to euthanize it myself because it would be more work to take it to a vet. It’s obviously not all workers or stores but there’s enough that are that way for it to require uproar.

Thank you for sharing! And for your caring heart!
@@Emily-zx5qs That's what I was thinking. I worked in a big box pet shop once. Not a huge chain but they do have like 12 locations across Canada. I worked in the small animal department for maybe 2 months and remember seeing hamsters that were ill or quails that had gotten into a fight and were very badly injured. Told my manager (who was the owner of the store) and he simply removed them to sit out in a small cage in the warehouse part of the store... no meds, no vet, just isolation until death. I'm pretty sure he just wanted them to not die in front of customers. Turns out those without empathy towards animals are oftentimes jerks towards people too and so I walked off that job mid shift and haven't looked back.

I work at a chain store and I can honestly say This type of stuff happens because of poor store management and the state the store is located. In my state this kind of stuff is unheard of because luckily my state is extremely strict about the disposing of animal remains since it’s an environmental hazard if said animal isn’t actually DOA like the ones found in the video. Boxes of live fish like that in a dumpster is a big no no with the Department of agriculture which would be 100% notified if bags of fish where to be found in the trash at the sorting facility’s. All fish that come into a store need to be cut out the bag, water needs to be drained and fish placed into a tank or a black bag for those who are DOA which are eventually cremated. It doesn’t matter if all fish are DOA we can’t just through them in the trash like that they must be disposed of properly and with respect. Shame on the employees responsible for having such little care / respect for the lives of the animals they are supposed to be caring for IDK how someone could consciously throw out animals to die horribly.
Thanks for saving these poor little creatures. Its horrible to think another living being could inflict so much horror on such innocent creatures that have no voice and no choice in what happens to them. They're taken for granted.
It is good that you went viral with these videos. It needs to come to light, and it is loow by the stores to not take action and quit dumping live fish and actually care about what they are selling. Am feeling angry and sad for all the animals that are getting treated this way 😢 I agree that the content makes you feel so much and I whole heartedly feel your frustration and it is strong of you to keep going! 💕
Glamour DDive - just a few points which I hope will help in the future. Removing the dead fish from the at home set up,, as quickly as possible will reduce ammonia which is deadly. Some fish shipping bags are best left unopened until you can remove the fish as opening the bag converts exhaled waste products into a more deadly form. If you do this often enough (you are amazing by the way) you could set up a small portable container with a battery powered air stone to drop fish into. Float the bags for a while to temp acclimate.
Good on you for bringing awareness to this and rescuing them. They would benefit from being drip acclimated slowly into a hospital tank. This situation makes the industry look bad but proper aquarium stores with caring, passionate staff would never do this. If the staff at this store are educated enough to determine the fish aren’t saleable they should also most certainly be capable of setting up a quarantine setup and receive the medication they deserve.
Oh my gosh! I have watched a few of your videos so far and wondered when there would be one with evidence of animals! These companies are DISGUSTING! They HAVE made public statements about this over the years and it was all denying this PERIOD. I found all sorts of pets myself at my hometown Petsmart in Merced, CA when I still lived there about 10 years ago. Sick!!! No doubt they still continue to do it.
Is it the companies though? Or the consumers who continue to shop at these places saying nothing By all natural law, silence is consent. WE need to change and then the pigs at the top will notice their troughs are getting empty and will change to meet our demands

This is definitely an individual store problem. I have worked at several petcos and petsmarts and this has never happened. However I'm greatful you are attempting to help save them. I do suggest respectfully confronting them this is a lot of evidence and people should be losing their jobs because this is way to frequent to just be a mistake. Also for the fish until you get them home don't open holes in the bags if they sit there for long periods of time ammonia builds up in the bag but the poor amount of oxygen prevents it from being as harmful to the fish. But when you open a hole in the bag there is a sudden exposure to fresh oxygen and the ammonia becomes instantly harmful and can shock and kill the fish. Keep it up its nice to see someone trying to help these mistreated animals!
I worked at Petsmart for 5 years ... this seems like a store problem. We would never throw full bags away. we would have to float them and open them and record if any were dead and what type etc. So we could then deduct it from the invoice for our margins etc. Small animals were never thrown away either, always brought to the vet to be checked over and disposed properly. Maybe bring it up to the manager directly....
As someone who works at Petsmart as a pet care specialist I can assure you that throwing away any live animals is against store policy. I work at one of the top locations in the country so we have very high standards, sadly not all Petsmart locations follow the Petsmart policies. Please report any stores that may be harming or throwing out live animals. This is very upsetting and I can’t believe anyone would do such a thing.

@@ME-qo2yj Whats “cap” about this video, “LOL”?
@@ME-qo2yjshut up
@@beccaashley3419 Because PetSmart doesn't throw live animals away. I work here, it's not something that happens. We don't even throw dead animals in the dumpster. These videos are staged
Thank you...I used to work at Petco and would usually dumpster dive after work bc I knew the management/coworkers threw away live animals pretty much regularly...still have fish and a hissing roach from when I worked there 3-4 years ago
Do you know why the are doing that?
@@Sophia-ni1pw usually it's because they get too big or they start looking less appealing so the get rid of old and bring in new
@@journeywithgabriel5031 but why do they have to kill them like this
@@Sophia-ni1pw well it's part of their business it's easier to kill and replace the fish than to donate or give the fish for free it's sad but time is money but I've heard if you ask the people in the store if they have and fish they need gone or any that are sickly or about to die but only certain stores other will just give discounts
great now if you truly care about animals you would stop paying for them to die just because you feel like eating them
Be careful to anyone considering doing this!
Thank you for repeatedly going to save them ❤
what kind of fish do u have?
They’ve been with dead fish for too long and they don’t want to risk them bring diseases into the other tanks and killing off other fish :( but still its so easy to put them into an individual tank and treat them before selling ;(
Yeah they should stop ordering fish weekly if they don't have enough quarantine tanks!!
Every living being has the right to live. Thank you for helping.
so are you vegan then? most of the world pays for animals to die regularly when they buy their chopped up dead bodies
But they are killed quickly and not thrown away in the trash and left them to suffer until death comes. Theres a difference in humane and inhumane.
I worked at PetSmart for almost 3 years and this is not how we disposed of any animals alive or dead, this is not the corporate practices on how to deal with these things and when they got sick we tried to rehab them and adopt them out so not sure why some stores are doing this but looks like lazy workers
Same
This is an individual store issue. I’ve worked at Petsmart. We took a lot of time to care our sick fish in quarantine tanks and took all dead fish to the vet for disposal. This is absolutely abhorrent!
I can’t believe they would do this 😭I mean they are just fish but no animal should have to be dumped in the trash ALIVE! Thank you for saving them!
I’m not sure why they do it either. Maybe they’re sick and just don’t want to treat them? I’m not sure but it’s pretty weird that they throw alive fish out
There’s a video of someone finding a bird in the trash
A live one
you’re just a mammal
@@oopsallie cool revelation bro
I already had my doubts about petsmart and petco but this is disgusting. I'm never patronizing their stores EVER again. Thank you for making me aware of this. This is gross.
Not PetSmart. PetSmart has cheaper, thinner bags and our water is not blue it's clear.
Yes
That’s how I knew this was set up
@@Alix-GP of course you'd say that if you work for them. Why would you have to defend your store if they weren't doing shady shit? BTW, petsmart employees have been coming out with this for years, it's not a recent thing.
@@MaddieZombie bc not all pet stores are bad. Y’all are just blind.
I rescued a baby ball python snake from petco nobody wanted because it was flighty, but i bought it for $ 10.00 and 5 years later she is the sweetest thing ever, Excellent job rescuing those fish.
I used to get a call from a former employee when they would throw away sick hermit crabs. She would hide them in one box for me to pick up. I have a huge crabitat with everything they need so I would take them home. Only lost 2 total out of 34 that I picked up!
So glad you saved them ❤
Please don’t ever stop what you’re doing! I really appreciate you exposing what they do!
You speak for those who can't sweetie! God bless you.
I'm a dumpster diver to ...can't believe they do that so sad ...u got me checking them now hopefully since it's on social media they'll stop doing it
This has been in the public eye for several years sadly, nothing will be done until legal action is taken or something
Have you come across any love animals from your dumpster dives, if you went?
@@Theblankminer no thank God....got me a dog bed the other night 👍👍👍
Have you found any?
Thank God for you saving these guys. I'm so angry at those places and this literally has me in tears. God bless you, seriously you are an Angel!!
😵💫
Bless your heart honey! This is the best way to make people aware of something important that is going on under our animal-loving nose’s. Well done on bringing awareness to this horrible situation!
The little yellow betta is so precious. 🥺
Absolutely heart breaking- bless you for helping all these poor babies 🥺
The worst part is they’re probably like “they’re just fish it doesn’t matter”
I'm glad u are trying to help keep these poor living beings alive. Hopefully corporate will get wind of this and get a true system in place to not let this continue to happen. To me this is similar to when pet stores carried puppies, kittens, and other live animals that were from pet mills. A stop was put to that for the most part and they need to put a stop to this also! Thank you for sharing! And for your caring heart!
If corporate gets wind of this, they'll lock the dumpsters
This is absolutely disgusting! I can’t believe how someone can do something like this! I’ve heard so much about neglect and abuse at these pet stores. They should honesty get closed down for all the animals they treat like this!
The world need more people like you!
So sad how they just throw them in trash they are living and have feelings to I'm so glad you help them you have a good heart we need more people like you in the world ❤️
Omg so unbelievable 😔This made me cry! Poor fishies, I can’t imagine just how many fishes they throw away in every other state and there’s no one ever realizing it. Thank you for saving them, bless your heart 💜
I had no idea they do this. Thank you for bringing awareness and saving lives 🙏
ALERT 🚨 IF YOU DO THIS DO NOT PUT THE FISH THAT GOT THROWN OUT IN YOUR OWN TANK WITH YOUR OWN FISH THEY ARE MOST LIKELY BEEN THROWN OUT BECAUSE THEY WERE REAAAAAY SICK. but good vid🦀🐳🐬🦞🐟🦐🐠🦑🐡🐙🦈🐋
Just so you know it is safer to keep the bages closed if you don't know how long they have been in there. I also hope you are quarantineing everyone. These pet stores get so many diseases and parasites
This is truly disturbing. Thank you for bringing attention to this issue and saving the fish. 🐠❤️
This is such a good thing to do, firstly you are saving an animals life, and secondly it's free to get the fish
Good for you for saving them and making this known
You’re an absolute treasure for doing this. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for giving these poor fish a second chance!
Thanks for saving these poor little creatures. Its horrible to think another living being could inflict so much horror on such innocent creatures that have no voice and no choice in what happens to them. They're taken for granted.
It sad to see😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😭😢😢😢😢😢
It is good that you went viral with these videos. It needs to come to light, and it is loow by the stores to not take action and quit dumping live fish and actually care about what they are selling. Am feeling angry and sad for all the animals that are getting treated this way 😢
I agree that the content makes you feel so much and I whole heartedly feel your frustration and it is strong of you to keep going!
Float the bags for a while to temp acclimate.
what a sad video how cruel they should be prosocuted for this, your amazing sweetheart xxxxx
So sad they do that. Thanks for saved them and show us that the stores do this. Kisses from Montevideo, Uruguay 🇺🇾
Fish that are suspected of disease are often thrown out because diagnosing fish is hard and expensive
They should at least euthanize them.
Oh god that’s so cruel , thankfully you’ve save them
Good on you for bringing awareness to this and rescuing them.
That was cool of u keeping those fishes live and saving them to ❤️🧡❤️🐠🐠🐟🐟🐠🐠
Or the consumers who continue to shop at these places saying nothing
By all natural law, silence is consent.
WE need to change and then the pigs at the top will notice their troughs are getting empty and will change to meet our demands
My hubby is from Merced born and raised, and i've been to that same Petsmart...what a small world sometimes. Just thought i'd mention that, since i legit never see anyone mention Merced on YT, neat coincidence lol.
I wish people got up in arms like this over the fact that there are very few situations where a Petsmart employee can refuse a sale to someone where the animal is clearing going to a shitty home where it will suffer and/or die. I've had people literally say to my face they don't care if it dies cause its just a fish and my manager still let the sale through. Same story different script.
Sounds like the issue was your manager not the store cause ours gave us permission to send l anyone away that refused to get the right equipment
@@homunculus7 If by manager you mean district manager then yes. Our store manager wanted to refuse. The district manager laid down how we actually got to do things. So this wasn't just our store. It was an entire district. I've moved around a lot and worked at 4 different stores in 3 different districts. It isn't just that district. So no, its not an isolated thing. Its pretty spread out company wide. You got lucky.
@@LaughablePerson damn that's a terrible experience! I remember turning people away all the time when I worked there. I had a customer call my manager once. I had turned her away from a sale and as soon as she got to her car she rang my manager, and my manager defended me. Fuck that district manager then.
Thank you for rescuing these poor fish. Its so sad that someone would just throw them away.
It is appalling what your pet store is doing but I am so glad you are able to save the fish you are an animal angel
It just makes you mad that they would just discard those live fish in the trash. Hell give them to someone Pet smart. Thank you for saving the live ones from the trash. ❤️

Way go girl glad your doing your part. Even if one fish at a time..thanks
Thank you for caring and saving all those babies. 💜
Bless You! It's deplorable how LIFE has so little value to some.
This has blown me away. I literally just can't imagine throwing away what they are perceiving as literal money. That's insane on a humanitarian side and from a business standpoint
You’re an Angel, Thankyou for doing this! I am SO DISGUSTED that they do this?! 😭😭
This is beyond heartbreaking 😭 people can be so cruel 🥺 thankyou so much for everything you do helping these poor animals 🥺
Outstanding! Thank you for bringing awareness to this abuse. Petco management should be held accountable. Employees who are involved should be ashamed of themselves. Keep posting your videos!
I love that u saved the fish but try switching to a natural aquarium it helps them a lot it’s just disgusting that They throw away an entire life just cause they didn’t want it anymore
Thank you for exposing these stores and their inhumane practices and saving the fish that you could. I will never shop at these places again!
This video made me so sad. I am thankful that the fish had you there to do whatever you could to save them.
This is absolutely heartbreaking! I googled how to report pet store neglect and there was some info depending on your state. I hope you will report it since you have a lot of evidence. Thank you for doing this btw. 🙏💗
I’m grateful that people like you still exist! Keep being so caring and shining gods light to those fish thank you for exposing these corrupt places!!!😭
This is so heartbreaking!how are they allowed to do this its barbaric.
So glad they have you too save them xx
This is heartbreaking. I’m ashamed of these pet stores. You are so caring to help save these fish. How can employees and employers do this.
Omg I never heard of this. You are amazing to bring awareness to this!!!!
I'm very sad that some of them couldn't be saved... but I am grateful for every life that you did manage to safe

You are such a good person and I encourage you to keep saving these animals lives
I wish bigger creators would also speak about this but thank you. I can't even explain how mad this makes me. Some people even find parakeets, birds, and hamsters. They deserve worse than just getting shut down. This is not and never will be OKAY😡.
most people dont DD so they would never know about it. most people know that chain stores mainly neglect them whilst in the stores.
You are an absolute angel for saving all these fish.
I work at petsmart and my manager keeps really strict regulations when it come to accepting animals. So whoever through these poor fish away really didn’t give a shit. I would definitely bring it up to the store manager, or pet care manager so whoever was in charge of unboxing fish can be confronted about it!
How many poor animals suffer from people like them 😭
Thank you for saving this poor little cutie animals❤
Thank you for saving all these animals.
Thank you for saving those animals lives , im mortified to learn this happens😨😱🥺 thank you for caring so much!
We don’t throw away live animals. I work at petsmart. I understand the crickets but we only throw away dead fish or snails. All other animals get cremated. You either found a bad store or bought them yourself. They also aren’t dumped in bags like that. Why would you bag a dead animal in water? You don’t.
You should name the specific Petsmart and Petco responsible for this, they won't stop on their own
No I’ll be the first to say when I used to clean up I worked at every pet store and I used to clean up their cages that was all my job was as a cashier and a caretaker all I did was clean the tanks there was somebody above me who actually took care of the animals, But it’s very hard to clean up dead crickets and not accidentally get a few I always do my best but it happens and even I get squeamish at the side of them but I still try LOL there’s absolutely no excuse for throwing away a LIVE Fish, my manager at petco in mi was very loving of all animals big &small She would have these peoples heads whoever did this
Thanks for saving these helpless animals!
Well done for keeping the fish's alive excellent video 👍🏻❤🐠🦗
I live in Tyler, Tx and our Pets mart was in the news a year or so ago because the current owner was a piece of crap. The aquariums had dead fish and they found a dog in the freezer. It was horrible and sad. From what the news reported it was bought out and the new people made a huge change. It's now better than the zoo. They have really improved and it's way busier and it's fun to go now. Thank you for rescuing these little guys and I hope if you ever need help to keep doing what your doing you'll let us know because your mission is awesome!!
Honestly this makes me want to dumpster dive Petco dumpsters. I’ve been wanting to do it for a little while now. Because I know they do this kind of stuff and it’s heartbreaking
This video made me mad and sad....but glad that you care enough to help those poor things. How can they just throw them away like they're trash?? They're living beings!! Those companies need to be stopped from doing this....thank you for the video....will share! ❤️😇❤️😇
Pets mart should stop selling live fish
So heartbreaking I'm so glad you found them. Absolutely disgusting.
Can just take a minute and appreciate this girl for saving fish lives like fish lives matter two
I worked at Petsmart for 5 years ... this seems like a store problem. We would never throw full bags away. we would have to float them and open them and record if any were dead and what type etc. So we could then deduct it from the invoice for our margins etc. Small animals were never thrown away either, always brought to the vet to be checked over and disposed properly. Maybe bring it up to the manager directly....
You have such a beautiful soul. There's a special place in Heaven for you. Thankyou for doing what you do.
bless. your. heart... ❤️ we need to be showing more care to all life forms
You’re literally the best
I was following a RUclips channel a few years ago about the animal neglect & abuse in big chain box pet stores. And the actual breeders & middle man companies..but I can't find the channel anymore.
Thank you for bringing awareness to this. I won't ever purchase an animal from big chain pet stores unless they are rescues that bring animals in.
