I just got a CZ 457 Varmint as a training tool in .22 lr and am currently thinking about a second barrel for it in the future. I am a bit uncertain wether I want .17 hmr or .22 wmr, it seems like a matter of belief to most. Given the last shot at the fox I tend towards the .17 hmr, definitely looks more then suitable for any small game. Still I'd value your opinion on the matter! Cheers

Hello and good morning to you,
Well, my Dad always said this,
“If you don’t know the answer then don’t BS”
That’s where I am right now with your great question.
I’ve got a .17hmr, as you may have seen in previous videos? But as with everything, they are all dependent on certain aspects, range, weather, and the main thing, how good you can shoot?
Folks have written to me claiming the .17 home isn’t suitable for Foxes, but an accurate shot in the right place, will certainly stop anything.
I think you will have to work out your own options on this one.
How far are you reasonably expecting to shoot out to, and what will you be shooting at ?
      Another thing is, Cost !!
Ammo isn’t cheap nowadays and it’s not going to go down in price either.
I’m going to do a series of videos with one of my Nieces, and take her as a completely new shooter, using a break barrel air rifle to.22lr, then .17hmr and finally my .243. Targets only for now, so be sure to hit the notification bell, and try not to miss that, I’m sure a lot of folks will enjoy watching her shoot.
Good luck with your dilemma, and I’m sorry I didn’t have the magic answer.
      David

From what I saw that weekend I was out with you and Dwayne, you’re gonna need a lot !!
Thanks very much for your reply too, I did say we were going to try to concentrate on taking head shots, but sadly Ollie has not attended the “All Arms Sniper School” so I believe he just got a bit unsure of his capabilities.
If only we were born an Expert at everything eh?🤷🏼‍♂️
Good luck on the Hares, and be sure to aim well ok🫵😉
