Everything you said about the R1 2009 - 2014 was SPOT ON. So glad I got this bike low mileage from a friend. Amazing bike. Took me a while to leant to ride it properly as its very different to the previous version R1 2008 I had, but it's very rewarding once you learn to ride it properly.

@camomclegend ---- you mis-understood what i said. What i meant was, CBR is more easy to ride for a rider who is about to upgrade to a liter bike. Coming from a 600 or/and below.

  • @firebladegrowler2886

What I would say is that there's a reason why the Blade rules the TT (this is real road racing so it's good for a benchmark). It's to do with the balancing of the bike as I said in my previous comment.
When buying a bike for the roads you're not going to be taking these bikes to their limits in order to be able to tell any real difference. When buying a bike for th road it's all about looks, comfort, what aftermarket parts it has etc

  • @rheamdc21
    @rheamdc21 15 лет назад +15

everything they said is true. I am not a racer. But i have ridden those 2 bikes. The R1 is really powerful, engine wise! The R1 just really do not want to stop! It is a very fast bike compare to the CBR1000. But yeah, the CBR is more easy to ride. Good for a LITER BIKE beginners. R1 requires experience and skills from a rider.

@@johnnygorena5318 I was much faster on the track with my CBR. Like 10 seconds faster lap time. Maybe a highway pull from 80 the R1 would edge it out. I never tested that theory. The only thing I would agree with is that the R1 felt faster, but the needle went up quicker on the CBR for me.

What are the riding positions like on both of the bikes? Traditionally, Yamaha's riding positions are wrist destroyers. Even though the R1 won this test, I would still buy the Honda due to it's less agressive riding position!

  • @Ali.M
    @Ali.M 15 лет назад +2

    Your comment makes sense.
Sometimes when riding on bigger roads you do miss torque from a bigger bike. However, when I go ride on roads with a lot of harder turns, I rather choose the 600cc, at least for now. I just like using all the gears and let the engine rev high.
Whenever I feel like I can use at least some of the bikes potential on a race track, I might consider upgrading to a 1000cc.
Sorry if something made no sense, my english isn't very good.

Yeh you are right. I watched all these reviews before buying my R1, then was shocked to find that the bike is the complete opposite of all the reviews. Terrible top heavy handling, overkill engine braking, absolutely gutless down low, clutch problems, fork problems, cam chain tensioner problems, terrible throttle mapping and heavily restricted. The only conclusion i can come to is the US model is completely different. I've still got my R1, have though very hard about selling it for a blade

Allright... they put 10 more hp into the R1 and it has more exit out of the curves (if the rider is able to use it). Is also easy for Honda to increase power... than what? Soon we'll be riding on the road with full race track competition kits...?

I don't know that the R1 is so difficult to get used to. I've ridden and owned both inline fours and twins (GSX-R 1000 K7, a Fireblade, KTM SuperDuke R, KTM RC8 etc) and my 2009 R1 is probably the easiest to ride out of the bunch. The chassis is so good all you do is countersteer the thing into the corner, crank the throttle and it'll keep the line. Cut my previous best time at a certain track by three seconds the second track session. It is bloody amazing. I actually prefer it to the BMW.

Yeah keep in mind I haven't ridden the R1 and this was why I posted on you (as you obviously have).
I think it's a good reason mate. Very rarely do I go on a joy ride and take my bike up to anywhere near it's limits. I don't drive so my bie is used for both commuting and fun
I was in fact choosing between the R1 & Blade when replacing my last bike. I chose the Blade as I happened to get a really good deal (£8000 for a 2012 Blade with 2200 miles, full Leo system & Levers/Screen).

in TT it's everything about the rider..i also didnt even refer to gsxrs i just said r1 is better.trust me dude ride an R1 and u will see the difference..high torque with a crossplane crankshaft an 100% reliable just like the fireblade..cbr is better than r1 for everyday use as it is more comfort as many honda guys say.. but seriously this is not a good reason to pick a cbr over the r1..i mean if you need "comfort" and "everyday use" you take a scooter and not a track bike..

I'm going on my personal opinion. I love the r1, i mean i've wanted one sense i could remember, i've been all over the country on my friends r1, him with a CBR, so naturally we swapped, i find the CBR to be a nice bike, but it lacks something, i find hondas bigger cc bikes to lack, anything over a 600 id pick a yamaha. Though if your abit causious and not sure of yourself, id pick the fireblade, R1 is rawr power, scary and times but more fun

Legislation causes different results and so be it.When bike is 16hp down on best in class (146 R1 with 162hp for ZX-10 in 2009 US tests) but loses only little on top(162 vs 170 in UK) with huge grunt, that makes it different bike all together.
What causes such a loss in Yamaha and why? US bike is still fast and interesting for the use of new technologies, but when you watch US vs Euro tests,R1 seems to be absolutely different bike, power wise!!
Is there simple reason for such a huge power loss?

  • @checkie4ever
    @checkie4ever 13 лет назад

Why are all US bikes so weak compare to Euro or UK ones. 09'R1 in US has around 146hp from every test and torque is just o.k. It's down on 08'model,which was around 153 hp. I guess, that new model is down on power everywhere( well 5-7hp) and that'd be fine,if it had such a huge low and mid power and grunt. But, CBR is grunt king over not just R1,but others too
I have trouble to figure, what it is. Also, in UK test, this new R1 has 162hp. That's 16hp up on US bike!!! What's the cause of it?!

    R1 wins eh Mr Neeves?
With the benefit of hind-sight I think most critics would disagree with this review.
BIKE magazine in particular have dismissed the R1 as a bit of a gimmick that's annoying to ride and with really sub-standard suspension.
It may beat the 'Blade on a track, but if you appreciate function over form, I think you'll agree that the R1 is the inferior bike once the cross-plane novelty wears off.
And just look at the thing. It looks like Bugs Bunny on amphetamines...

I'm gonna totally disagree with you on everything u mentioned. rossi and especially burgess tested and developed the honda rc211v to be good. it was not great from the get go. the yzr m1 was good at cornering but did not have the power as compared to the honda at that time. with yamaha, rossi and burgess, helped get the power out of the m1. through testing and adjustments. rc211v is a v5 the m1 is a i-4 with crossplane. two different animals which makes your honda loving comment weak.

i do have a gixxer 2008 and in 2008 gixxer was still the king.lol. the 2009 is faster, lighter and more power.the gixxer will always be the untamed brute of the bunch.more power in lower rpm then the yam and more violent then the honda. you shoul check your stat better mate. gixxer rules the race track.but dont get me wrong, they are all excellent bikes. finally, the gixxer sound with or without a pipe is way better.funny they did not test the gixxer lol.

honda's have got it going on for me, honda have never made a bad blade, maybe the first 929 were not that great imo, but all the rest are no:1 in my eyes, they have the looks the performance and the build all rolled into one, fireblades the way forward,
the thing about the r1 is, if any1 wants to talk shit about a bike they will talk about the r1,, like,,,, my mate done 205mph on his 2004 r1,, eeerrr no he didnt.
but yeah i like all bikes, its just the honda's do it for me.

Just another flavour bike for this year. I own an 08 R1 and think that'll do for the next five years. Seriously what can you do with these bikes on the road. 2nd gear wheelies all day. Back road drags. Same shite every year. Whatever bike suzuki come out with It'll hammer anything. Why would 3 privateer teams in WSBK say yes please to one instead of the R1? I'm over comparos. That R1 looks hideous compared to the 04 - 08 model R1's. My 2 cents

What it all comes down to is, don't buy on someone else's opinion. Ride the bike, THEN make up your own mind on what suits you best. Riding position, seat height, and so on, and of course what looks best to you. Everyone has their own tastes, or all bikes would look, sound, and all be the same. I love my 1000rr, but that is just me.

What about the 2011 Kawasaki ZX10R? I am not sure, but Kawasaki might make a the same stile engine as Yamaha. Anywhay I love these bikes and I am wondering how is going to look year 2011 for supersport class!
If I could take some big pluses from each bike then I would, but shame that no company is gonna do that any time soon! Hahaha!

Yeah, that's why the Honda Fireblade wins every Isle of Man senior TT, Superbike TT and Superstock TT. The CBR1000RR holds the lap record for every class in which it competes - no Yamahas on the list.
In the only REAL all-out road race on the planet for production bikes, Honda Fireblades own the track.

...lets try to find a way to experience riding the two bikes MCN reviewed. Then lets post our comments. That should make it fair and square to everybody. Everybody's opinion matters...that's what make these bikes better and better. Besides, our personal views make our chosen ride special to us...because we assure ourselves we made the right decision with our ride.

Dude, It's a superbike, not a new couch. If you want comfort out of your riding, go ride a big American bike.......not 1 of these.
But in response to your question the Blade felt like a more natural riding position than the R1
R1 is the faster bike, but in my opinion the honda is much more fun to ride.

i had a a 600cc for 4 years quite happily, wondering why any one would want a bigger bike, i now have a fz1000 for about 18 months, it is fantastic, love it so much, you do have to be a little more carefull how you ride, but will never go back now.
So in all i would say, start off with 600 then you will really enjoy getting a bigger bike plus be more experianced to ride it.

Ok I ride a 2008 GSXR 1000 and a 2009 R1. I dont agree that you shouldnt have a 1000 as your 1st bike. learning to ride a bike is all about the proper use of the throttle and the clutch. If you can use both effectivlly you could ride anything. I guarantee in 6 months you will wish you would have gotten the 1000 not the 600.

@dazzelya Yeah man, that's true. I live in the US for a little while and was first shocked to see those octane numbers. I was used to 93-95 and 97 or 8 and here it's 87-89-91 or 93 and best 95, hehe....No wonder factories have problems with this kind of shite and it kills your engine too, car or bike.

@Snookenas agreed and honda built the better bike....i think most of us can agree when it comes to the best manufacture there is NO,NADA. NOTHING that makes a more reliable, better, respect, user power friendly, street friendlier ..all in one package motorcycle then HONDA

These guys are tools bar none, they act like the R1 is all but unrideable with all the grunt it has, i own an 09 R1 and i feel that the gsxr 1K's & zx10R's that iv owned would man-handle this bike. i like my 09 yam but it isnt the "beast" these guys are making it out to be.

i wonder how much their opinion earned them there!! made the blade feel like a 600!! hmmm...
personally i dont think that these bikes are suitable for road use, yes you can ride them but you will never get its full potential on the open road.
both bikes belong on the track

I've ridden a 600cc and still feel no need for any bigger bike... I don't understand why people keep telling "you'll get bored of 600cc in the first month, get a 1000cc". I'd rather learn to ride the 600cc properly on a track and then _might_ consider a bigger bike.

Results from the 09 Isle of man TT Superstock race.
    1st,2nd,3rd,4th and 5th Honda CBR100RR
Yamaha R1 ..... Did'nt even get on the podium all week.
So much for them being a better road bike MCN.
How about doing a fair test for a change and not giving the best review to who ever pays you the most

dude...no matter what bike u use of the same class, it still depends on the rider on track....even drag race...but of course if u have more power,it means u have slightly more advantage...but whats the advantage for if u cant handle it?again depends on the rider...

If you want to tinker and work on your bike as much as you ride ,,,,buy the R1...if you just want to ride trouble free year after year buy the CBR....I have both, I like riding the R1, a good bike to ride,, just too much trouble. Honda has forgotten more about motorcycles than the rest ever knew.

Strange when the new blade came out last year it looked ugly next to the outgoing R1.
However now the new R1 looks ugly next to the blade!
i would find it very difficult to choose from these two awesome bikes, just as well i cant afford either!! :)

@IIxSmgYxII LOL no I never noticed that. Well, I guess what I said sounded good to lots of people. It's pretty much common sense though, nobody buys a bike on someone else's opinion, or at least I hope they don't. LOL
