@@ErieRosewoodit is! the color manila is named after the color of manila paper. the color orange is the same; first it was the name of a fruit, and then people started calling the color orange. before that, they used other words for the color.
It comes from a banana tree ! Its used to make manila paper. Growing up I would sit through student teachers presenting lessons through manila paper, I remember learning about the filipino alphabet (abacada) on a manila paper, made of abaca !
My grandmother had a floral arrangement made in a similar manner, but instead of paper, it was a plastic that formed a film. I haven't seen anything like it in literal decades, until now. These are absolutely beautiful! And the translucent colors are lovely.
I experimented with that 10 years ago when I was developing this idea, but unfortunately they just fell apart after a few wears. The sealers I use now make them waterproof and really tough!
Wow. I've seen a lot of beautiful things made with Abaca but never like this one! I've had the chance of harvesting and processing abaca fibers wounding them into ropes to be sold by the meters to artisans to make sandals, stronger ropes, hammok, home decors, etc. But this!!! Your jewellery are so pretty.❤
That is very very cool. If I were to try something like this I might skip the dye and resin and try gansai paints ( which dry waterproof and some are pearlescent) and natural earth paints varnish which is archival and and plant based and see how that goes.
I make a lot of things out of resin and I think that would be a wonderful application to include into my artwork thank you so much for showing all of us this product. You have a beautiful voice
I remember making paper growing up with the picture frames and screens so I can appreciate how finicky that can be and to be able to use a different fiber that you can turn into this beautiful jewelry is just incredible! Thank you so much for sharing this, this is truly amazing work. ❤
So beautiful. On my list. Saving and I will bless myself on my birthday. Aiming at the dewdrop earrings and one day dragonfly set. This is pure art and so calming.
The finished jewelry reminds me of of this stuff we used to dip looped wire in to make petals which then became a flower. It was called Dip a Flower I think. A kids toy that was popular sometime in the 70's - 80's.
You have come a long way from my grandmother’s day of using old nylons stretched over wire loops for petals! Your creativity is stunning. Thank you for this day trip under the trees
I saw this after I recently got my fuchsia plant called Angel Earrings! I think it would be so cool to see this technique to replicate the bloomed flower into actual earrings!

That's so cool! I make fake flowers out of tissue paper and wire, abaca would be cool to use too!
Absolutely! This technique requires a ton of tools and technical knowledge, but you can buy sheets of abaca to work with and they're so much fun!

Abaca sounds like one of those names you would name your child if it didn't have another meaning
yeah, sorta sounds like bekah/becca!
