      There’s a lot to like in the Cut page. I’ll be interested to see how it evolves. Thanks for commenting!

      Then you might as well be using Final Cut Pro, because basically the cut page is final cut. The cut page has some interesting features but for the most part, I think it sucks.

    Chris, you are an absolute living legend in the editing world. I'm thrilled to see you on RUclips now. I used to watch your Resolve lessons on their website back in the day, and I was always impressed by your deep knowledge of the software. Even though I've been using Resolve for ages now, I know for a fact that every time I watch your videos, I learn something new. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the community. Grazie 🙏🏻

      Hey! The Edit page is great and is my preferred environment for general editing. But the Cut page has some very interesting features as I talked about in this video. Dipping in and out of the Cut page is a totally worthwhile thing to do. Even just for things like the Close Up feature. Glad you’re finding the videos useful! 👍🏻

    My favorite feature of the cut page is that there's two views of the same timeline. It saves you a lot of time in the long run because you don't have to constantly find a good "working level magnification." I often start working in the cut page to get a rough cut going, or for selecting some clips via the source tape. I switch to the Edit page eventually, for more precise trimming and refinement. But for those first passes, the cut page is quite efficient.
    My second favorite feature is the one you mention, where you can make edits from source to the timeline while the source is playing, and it doesn't switch you into the timeline. That's a great way to assemble some footage for later refinement.
    In general, I think there's a lot of positives from having two modalities to editing. By .. ahem .. cutting away features and preferences, you can often design a user experience with a better focus, and you don't risk it toppling under the constant stream of feature requests. Features will naturally fit in the "right" modality, which means you can push both further.

    Why can't I seem to find my smart bins while on the Cut page? How do I view those while on the Cut page?

    • @Chris.Roberts
      @Chris.Roberts  7 месяцев назад

      Ah. Unfortunately I don’t believe you can. I think this is because the Cut page approaches editing differently and the Source Tape is designed to be the primary way to browse your footage and you can then sort the media pool for that purpose. It’s a shame, because it would be useful. HTH.

    This was great. right at my level thanks to a previous video. The sync is cool but I only use one camera currently. I have only just started to use the edit page and your videos are great, easy to follow and learn from. I'm just learning Resolve from Premier (I tried 6 months ago and got overwhelmed and quit editing out of frustration.)

      @Chris.Roberts  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for this. Good to hear you’re finding my videos useful. If you’re familiar with Premiere then you should be reasonably at home with the Edit page. I’ll have more Edit page stuff soon. Stay tuned 📺

    Great tutorial again. I often shoot with 3 cameras that are not timecode synced and are not colocated so even the audio doesn't match. Is it possible to manually sync them together in a sync bin to benefit from that kind of editing?

    • @Chris.Roberts
      @Chris.Roberts  8 месяцев назад

      Yes! Hopefully you have some kind of visual sync point you can use (clapboard, hand clap or something similar). That way you could add an In point (or Out point if it’s towards the end of the footage) and sync using that method in the Sync Clips window. HTH! 🎬

      HNY to you too!
      To be fair, I’d say the Cut Page timeline doesn’t function the same way it does in FCP. Also I find the Cut page still has inconsistencies in functionality and I find that frustrating. Still, it’s useful in the ways I try and point out. Thanks for the comment though. Food for thought…

      @@Chris.Roberts Thats true. But one of the main complaints about Resolve is the lack of a magnetic timeline...
      I'm actually missing a few things, such as a way to zoom the timeline (in fixed increments, if you like). From 3 video tracks and 3 minutes onwards it all becomes very confusing

    Random question, but do you have any recommendations in monitors you use for Resolve?

    • @Chris.Roberts
      @Chris.Roberts  8 месяцев назад

      Not really. I honestly don’t have any preference so long as it’s a decent picture! ☺️

      ‘Fraid not. Just a decent monitor that displays the colour space you need to deliver. 😎
