A few years ago I watched Devin Olsen absolutely crush fish on one of the most pressured tailwater's here in the Western US. These are some of the pickiest fish that leave most of us anglers scratching our heads. We were fishing long smooth glides with no structure or broken water. To make it even more difficult, these fish are very easy to spot from the hiking trail and as a result they get fished to non-stop every day of the year. However, Devin wasn't having hardly any troubles getting them to eat his dry fly. His presentation was nearly flawless casting and drifting a dry fly leader that was over 20' in length, but I still had to know what fly he was fishing. That's when he introduced me to his CDC midge pattern. Since that day I have fished this fly on many technical fisheries and it continues to produce fantastic results.
Recipe:
Hook: Dohiku 301 Size 18-20
Thread: Veevus 16/0 - Black
Schuck/Tail: Crystal Flash - Black
Body: Crystal Flash - Black
Wing: CDC - White or Khaki
Hot Spot: CDC - Pink
Hackle: Grizzly Hackle

Great tie! Do you typically stick with size 18 or 20 hackle on this or do you size up so it's a little more prominent?
Great question, and yes I also carry it in a size 16, but I don't fish it as much. If I feel like I need it to stand out a bit more in a cloud of naturals then I will tie it on.
