    I’ve returned to this video several times. I consider Davie the best fly tyer and certainly the best fly tying teacher on the planet.
    This pattern is so simply perfect that I see it taking trout anywhere it is fished. I’ve tied several of them and fished it over some very picky trout and have done very well with it. There is something really special about Davie McPhail. One of the items on my 100 items bucket list is to spend a day with him...1/2 day tying and 1/2 day fishing in his beautiful country.

    I forgot all about this one.
    So nice to find it by scrolling down thru the years of you're RUclips video's.
    And old friend of mine ,when i was young also gave the tip to spare the left overs cdc. To make cdc dubbing. Specially as it was very expensive back then. But still is,and or why waste this perfect buoyant material.

    Hello Davie,
    Again a real good looking pattern.
    Ask you something.
    After you had worked with a uv resin and a torch, you did varnish the body.
    What is the main reason to do it and what varnish is a good one to use?
    With kind regards an tight lines.
    René

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 лет назад

      Hi René,
      The main reason for doing this is because all the resins that I have used and even the old epoxy resins leave a tacky residue so by coating it with a fine coat of varnish keeps it clear and tack free..I'm glad you liked the fly..
      All the very best Davie..

    Great looking pattern. Now if I could just find a good commercial source for "long" stripped peacock quill. Bought a while ago and they seem very short. They were "Polish" quills.Are quills the same as peacock herl?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  7 лет назад

      Hi Richard,
      I have used the Polish quills and they are much the same one's as I use you, just have to tye them in at the tip of the quill to get the full use of it...The peacock quills I buy come from Veniards, they are the extra large which should have the best quills both in colour and length. I usually buy them in bulk of a hundred to select the best and I would normally get about 40% to 60% of the feathers good enough for quills..I'm glad you liked the midge pattern...
      All the very best Davie.

    Another great-looking fly from a true master. This one should appeal to many, as it looks easy to tie, and it allows the tyer to recycle some expensive material. You talked about adding floatant; would you use CDC oil, or would a dry powder also work?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  7 лет назад +2

      Hi handcannon,
      It is a good fly to have in your box and very simple to tye, I've used both and they work fine though I have been treating my flies especially CDC with Nikwax which seems to last far longer though a dry shake powder will bring it back to normal...I'm glad you liked the fly...

      Davie McPhail - Nikwax, that's a great idea. I'm never sure what's best to use (powder, oil, etc. ) I'll give that a try. Great looking fly - and the warmer weather is on its way..! Many thanks, Davie.

    • @handcannon1388

      "Chlorine" or Cl- is half of what makes up bleach. What you are looking for will be found with the laundry supplies. Brand makes little to no difference; so I would buy the cheapest one available. If the clerk won't help you find it, any woman over 50 should be able to help you locate what you're looking for.

      Hi Robert,
      I have attached a link to the bleach I use it's an everyday one which is used in most homes as you may know. I mix one part in five if I had to measure it out but you will see it working as the water looks like it's getting dirty as this is the herl coming away from the quill...I should do a video on it sometime as I'm sure many would like to see what I do..
