There's something seriously Zen about sticking one of these on in the background while I work :)
ABOUT "SERVICES" (that thing that was needed to counter the fade effect, that kills your villages randomly during the storm): Service is any activity like praying/studying/training/bathing/drinking, "Services 1x" means you need at least one. Also a tip: I don't think you've noticed, but you gain reputation passively if your villagers resolve is over a certain threshold. You can see that threshold as small green line on a villager type resolve bar, and the race portrait is highlited with blue when that threshold is achieved.
Playing a run with the “no pausing allowed” modifier was the most fun I’ve had with a run in the entire game. Definitely give it a go if you see it Vin.
Something in the music and rainy soundscape of this game reminds me of autumn and its coolness. I really like it and its just so relaxing to watch to. :)
No Vinny, you don’t need to take oil or other goods to open a dangerous glade year 1. You CAN, but if you don’t have that option yet simply rush the trader and force them to appear early. Then sell extra ember cores and simple parts (you’ll get more through orders) to get what you need to solve the event if it’s a bad one. Also, something I like to do is actually not pick any of my first 3 blueprints until I open that first dangerous glade (which I do immediately) to see what nodes it has in it to see what buildings I need. Some people even go as far as not picking their first cornerstone until then, but I find that to not usually be necessary.
I'm currently watching this with 38.5 degree fever and the worst sinus infection of my life, and i gotta say, the slime and headache are really enhancing the Vinesauce experience
I'm sure Vin worked it out by now, but to forfill Services you need its luxury good and a service building; I.E. you can provide the Education service for beavers and harpies in a Temple with Scrolls.
Having the houses on my essential buildings list helps me so much simply because they dont clog up the blueprint rewards anymore on top of just being free happiness.
Also having a single house in each hub makes for clean number management for the upgrade levels and if you have harpies their house is an easy way to bolster their low base resolve a bit. If you don't have harpies, then the favor goes to lizards. Don't really bother with the other two outside of orders but like you said, at least they are out of the blueprint reward pool once unlocked.
Just a heads up Vinny, it's probably a good idea to have your camps facing the resources they're collecting so the villagers don't have to walk as far! Really happy you're enjoying this game by the way
It is people like you, that throw yourself at a game and work to figure it out through stupid moments, that allow people like me to go into a game already knowing most of what I am doing and enjoying it so much more for that. Thanks dude
This is probably my favorite series vinny has played. Between knowing he likes the game, the chill toned graphics, and soothing music, it makes it such a nice relaxing playthrough. I sometimes play it it to sleep but I've honestly just listened to him play the game while I do stuff on my pc. It's lower energy but still fun imo My anxiety has been spiking lately and these seem to help me tune it out so I can calm down. This probably seems a little dramatic as a comment but it really does. And I wanted to show how much it means to me that we've got these vids when he could've just chose to play without recording. Thanks vinny
@@Armameteus there is a sort of variation in the music when you play on coral forest. Though still the same tracks, having some extra effects or different instrumentation or something for every biome would be a neat way to enhance the different settings a bit. But the game could certainly use more general tracks, I wouldn't want them to be unique to specific biomes.
vinny's aesthetically pleasing roads end up pleasing the actual residents only, every street block being a square makes it really easy to lose buildings even as a watcher
It's unusual seeing you addicted to a city builder/strategy game but I'm super down for it. You got me into this game. Every time I'm not feeling like playing anything and you upload an Against the storm video it immediately gives me the itch to play it. It really is so well designed that it keeps you wanting more.
For me the surprise factor is more the roguelike aspect working so well. I love me some good eco sim games I can play largely at my own pace while not the biggest fan of roguelikes and time constraints usually. But this game just got it's claws in me like nothing else.
@@Nirual86 its definitely a weird combination of genres that works oddly well together. It's also extremely satisfying when you start getting good at it. I don't even like micromanagement in games but I enjoy it here for some reason.

I do like micromanaging in this kind of context, with aspects of logistics, managing workforces, working around lack of resources or buildings, managing the side effects of glade events etc. Its not like playing competitive StarCraft or something where micro is a constant expectation. Getting the settlement to a point where it runs fine by itself until you open the next glade and have another problem to solve is part of the satisfying loop, after all.
I'm conflicted about the time of the video, I'm glad because I can use this for 5 hours to match my shift, but is Vinny having an addictive to endanger his cheeks circumference again.
Big Glades have lots of guaranteed goodies despite the dangerous event. Small Glades have a good chance of having nothing of value to you. Big Glades give 20 hostility for opening up. Small Glades give 10 hostility. You normally get more out of opening 1 Big Glade than you do from opening 2 or even 3 small glades, so its just more efficient to just go for it. Meta strategies aside, there's nothing wrong with opening 1 or 2 small glades at the start of a game simply for the space. It's all playstyle.
its more of an issue on high difficulty levels. And at least the devs have heard the feedback, the last update has made an effort to rebalance the rewards. Can't say for sure it was enough, but if nothing else the new camp system means you'll always have a way to make the most out of the small glade contents. Though one factor that definitely remains, is that its much easier to offset a big dangerous glade's hostility factor by plopping down a new hearth.
Vinny, when your villagers were dying in the last run and it wanted you to provide a service I'm pretty sure it means ANY service (religion, leisure, etc.) It doesn't matter what services. I think you were misunderstanding it. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what you were supposed to do because you didn't have any services going. It does suck that there's no wiki for this game yet, though.

I think he thought he needed a specific service and kept trying to find out which service he needed because he didn't realize it meant ANY service. I can't imagine he doesn't know what constitutes a service... but this IS Vinny we're talking about...

The only negative opinion I have on the music is that there isn't enough. The loop is pretty short. Otherwise it makes me so chill and happy yeah.
