  • Never thought this would happen! This weekend I fly to Colorado where I meet my older sister for the first time! Neither of us knew we existed until recently! It goes to show that life is full of happy surprises :) meet my new family on this adventure!
To clear it things up, my sister was born before my parents married, she was not adopted. we share a common father. She was raised and loved by her mom and dad in the USA while I was born and raised in Canada. My dad never knew she existed... but would have loved to have met her before he passed.

Hi Alex my father found the rest of.his family, the Paternal side, when he was 38 in 1960. It changed our lives. We were military too. We lived in San Francisco area and they were in Weiser, Idaho but when we shipped out to Italy for new duty station we went North and met them. Like you we looked alike. Dad was raised by his Grandparents and never met his father as he died young. But I know it helped my father’s journey back to life after the military. I’m a ancient coin collector transplanted to Australia from Oregon. Best Wishes, Walter

So strange to get recommended this.
My spouse just recently reconnected with his dad, and brother after 30 years. In that process he found out he had a little sister also. Named Alyssa.
And we just named our 3rd child Dorian.
    So interesting.
Happy you have all been reconnected. ❤️

My stepbrothers did the ancestry dna test and found out that the person they thought was their dad wasn’t their dad. They’d thought that both of their parents were dead, come to find out their real father was still alive. Their real father had another child who’d died in a car accident, and come to find out he had not only more children, but grandchildren as well.

Hi. My father is a country singer. From a baby to age 8 years old dad would come and see me not all the time. All my family know and have seen the DNA test results and my birth certificate with my dads name on it and signed by him. Some of my dads family know about me and they refuse to go public about me. I'm very happy to know who is my dad and very happy that i know who my siblings are on my dad side. My mother stopped my dad from seeing me when i was age 8 and i lost all contact with him till 2013 we re-connected. We got on really well. He also met my kids. He passed away 2016.

Yes very true. I'm this person older brother and her dad would come to our house. He would play guitar and sing. It's sad what happened but I'm glad they both re-connected. And as for her dad's side of the family they know.

Alex, I've recently come across your videos, and I am completely fascinated...enthralled, even. I've watched the series on Madam Rac, watched your videos with Hans and finished the Potter's House series yesterday. I saw that you were visiting Colorado Springs. I lived there for 15 years. My adult son and I ran cars on that track you were on a couple years ago. Then, I see the hotel you stayed at, and I was the mail carrier on that route before leaving Colorado in 2019. I have thoroughly enjoyed your adventures. Thank you for sharing them with us!

I was adopted and after 50 years of not even knowing my ethnicity I decided to give Ancestry DNA a try. Not only did I find where my ancestors came from, I unexpectedly found multiple close DNA matches. Ended up discovering my mother, father, three step brothers, three step sisters and many, many cousins. Crazy!

  • @kimoh3
    @kimoh3 4 года назад +63

This happened to a friend of mine. She always knew she was adopted and embarked on a journey to find out who she was - to, as she said, maybe find someone that looked like her. Her birth parents were also teens, she found her mother, but that didn't go too well, and the mother wasn't sure who the father was. Along comes Ancestry, and she matched with an aunt, who checked with her brothers. When she found photos of the brother - there he was - that face that looked like hers! Luckily they live nearby and it has turned out wonderfully - she has 2 sisters, a grandmother, and a whole family that has accepted her with open arms. Her father was absolutely sick that he didn't know about her and that they missed so many years together, but at least they were able to find each other! Wonderful story - so happy for you!

I know that feeling, I met my birth mother at the age of 40 in 1999. My twin sister and I were taken away from her in the early 60's because the state of Minnesota thought that a unmarried woman was unfit to take care of a pair of twins. She was tricked into given us up.
I did grow up in a wonderful farming family I love very much. When I finally met her, my half siblings and step father it was tears of joy, laughter and love all around.

I loved the photos and story of your Dad. He was a good looking young man. A musician and he looks like he was super nice. It is too bad that he didn't live long enough to meet his daughter. Your sister is a treasure that you should embrace, after all, she is part of your Dad and you have so much to tell her and share. And now, you both can hopefully share your lives together. Her husband and daughter are so nice and they all seem to have embraced you. I think, for a first meeting it went really well. Hopefully you can all get together with both families. Congratulations on finding your sister. I lost my sister when I was 9 years old and she was just about 21. Don't let time go by, be brave!

I found your RUclips channel because of this video. I recently in 2018 have found my half brother, and it was amazing to finally see family that I resemble. I recently watch almost every video of your Potter House and I love how you took care of the family and Mary. I am totally impressed. Congrats on finding your sister!!

Given the timing of you and your sister's searches, my belief system definitely suggests that your dad got you together. And that's as rewarding as the rest of the story. I hope Alyssa posts the video of the meet-up. So great to meet you!

How right you are 1ndygirl, just because you cannot see something with your eyes does not mean it doesn't exist. Otherwise how is it we can use electricity? Ps You and me know who the 'ghost' in Mary's House was don't we ! much love to you xxx

I have not had a chance to get back to this, I watched the video after posting this response, shocked to see I was first, and intended to respond in full after the video just to find comments disabled. I was in tears most of this video, it was so touching. I'm so glad you found your sister, and truly happy your sister found you in return. I hope all continues to go well for both of you and your respective families. I can't imagine what it would be like to find a family member I knew nothing about, especially one so sweet, as I come from a very dysfunctional family myself. I'm happy for both of you!

I'm so glad you found your sister. I have a sister that's 6 months older than I am. I was born in Albuquerque, NM and she was born in Tucumcari, NM, in late 1963 or early 1964. Our father was a bus driver for either Greyhound or Continental. I've searched for her all my adult life. Your story has inspired me to try the DNA thing because it's the only thing I haven't tried. I'm in Denver and would have loved to come to the meetup in COS, as I used to live there, too, but wasn't able to make it down. Glad you had such a great trip and got to see our wonderful state. Hi to your new family and I hope you all get to create many new amazing memories together.

Looks like you had a lot of fun! Congrats on the new family! I would love to do DNA testing to find more of my cultural background, but I'm a little apprehensive of a company like that having my DNA and all of my information in their system.

This was BEAUTIFUL. I CANNOT believe how much this story resonates with my own life. The very story your sister talks about regarding the warnings she received about being with a black man is why, I am sure of it, the reason I was adopted! Now I am hoping to find my biological family knowing that this may never happen because I am biracial. WOW. I am so glad you found your family!!! Your sister is AMAZING!!!

That is so cool. This past summer I got a good friend an Ancestry DNA test for a gift and bugged him until he finally sent it off (it took months - he's a procrastinator!). He told me a week after he got the results he was contacted by a half brother he didn't know he had. His father had a relationship that ended badly back in the 90s and the woman didn't tell him about his child that was born later. Now they've all reconnected and have visited several times and are getting along great. He's thanked me several times for getting him the kit. I'm really happy I did.
