    Kind of symbolic and telling how, in the comic, all the 'new' metahumans with their edgy aesthetic were all killed, just like how most of them disappeared after the 90s and superman's generation are the only ones left. Goes to show how timeless they are and that the 'fad, trendy' heroes didn't stay long.

      What's amazing about it is that KC is the Author's clapback to all those edgy and overtly cynical comics that came out of the 90's.
      Both heroes and villains, cared not of saving lives. But rather just to sate their bloodlust.

      The new metahumans did their job the best that they could. It's the former generation's fault for not passing their values to the new generation, instead they treated them like trash and put them in cages. It's a story for ingrates who can't find fault in themselves

It's vision of the DC Universe, its characters, and its future are very relevant even (especially) now and the story itself has those biblical and heroic themes behind it. Heroes doing their best to stay true even as the world grows darker and rejects them, with the long defeat culminating in a glimpse of final victory. It's the ultimate DC story in that way. I hope that we get an adaptation do this justice or at least take its message to heart. Maybe a live-action adaptation with Brandon Routh's Superman from CW's Crisis but on HBO Max.

    Excellent video,Owen! I absolutely love Kingdom Come,1-4 original and later as the absolute edition! The absolute I found at the Salvation Army back in late 2000’s! Big damn book for 5 bucks! Then I came across the Comicology Kingdom Come Companion! This series is definitely a gem! Marvel & DC have benefited from Alex Ross ,Kurt Busiek & Mark Waid! Thanks always for awesome work,Owen! Great job!

    Oh, fun fact:
    In titans of tomorrow, a story showing a potential future timeline for the dc universe, clark kent, bruce wayne, diana, wally and barry etc are all dead and their younger counterparts, conner kent, tim drake, cassie, bart allen take up their roles but become darker, rougher versions of the heroes, and Conner's superman suit has black in his S symbol like KC's superman, but also listens to lex luthor like KC captain marvel
    And alex ross did art of Conner kent and Matrix (who was the supergirl at the time) in the KC timeline where they travel to the 31st century to remove their powers from the war, and they have new, legionnaire suits and conner has a new hairstyle.

    Kingdom Come is my favorite piece of heroic fiction. I loved the theme of the old guard versus the new guard. I loved Wonder Woman's role in the story and also, Batman's role. My favorite was the collected edition's epilogue where Clark, Bruce and Diana meet at Planet Krypton. I celebrated the end of 2023 reading this story. I wanted the end of the year to be celebrated by reading my favorite piece of heroic fiction. And I feel The Kingdom, the 1998 follow up was an enjoyable read as well.

    Outstanding presentation, my good sir, and your quite obvious use of good manners and proper, positive language added serious strength to this homage and what I see as a blended intellectual and heartfelt send up of this seminal and imperative comics related work. RESPECT to you for the inclusion of the Waid’s and Ross’ on words and thoughts on KC’s inception. Such intellectual-conversational nuggets are most necessary in any proper sized documentary. Blessings in CHRIST to you, sir and I will be looking for more of your works. MOST enjoyable, indeed!!!

    This story trutly represents what defines the DC heroes: While the Marvel heroes are humans who become super heroes, having to overcome their own flaws and personal issues, the DC heroes are this heroic, altruistic , large-than-life "modern gods" who always tries to help people the best they can while learning to accept their own humanity, their flaws and limits, in order to overcome it and become better.

    • @alexandrefrauches132
      @alexandrefrauches132 3 года назад

      @shut up I didn't mean that the DC heroes are inhuman or anything. What I meant to say was that overall this nice, heroic figures, who always tries to help others and their stories usually focus on the heroes having to recognize their own flaws in order to evolve as people, revealing the humans behind their super hero personas. In the case of Kingdom Come Superman and the other heroes start out as this gods wanting to help make the world better, but in the end, they had to recognize that their actions end up affecting people's trust in the super heroes, making decide in the end to try to regain the people's trust., recognizing their mistake in order to become better.
