I had a 2008 xB I bought used in 2010 with 39k miles.
I drove it until 174k and gave it to my ex, who drove it to just under 200k before he sold it, and that car never started burning oil.
It was an absolutely excellent car that never needed anything besides typical wear parts. I put one set of brakes on it, 2 sets of tires, one battery, and a no cost Toyota factory recall replaced the coil packs.
I changed the oil every 5k with Valvoline semi-syn.
That car was amazing- fun to drive, beyond practical, super user friendly, and it got 29 highway with the 5 speed manual.
I really miss that car! The xB was one excellent value!
Oh yeah, it still had the original clutch at 200k when my ex sold it! 😆🤘🏾
Is that a Subaru ? they are great cars !
I want Scotty to do the best car you can buy for $100 😂
$300 could be possible 😮.
That would be nice if he did that
8 years ago I bought a Toyota Camry with 210,000 miles on it for 500 bucks drove it for 4 1/2 years then when I was tired of it sold it for 400 with almost 300,000 miles on it
@@Mr.QuantumC0re looool a $300 dollar car that’ll cost about $1600 in repairs within the first month.
you sir want a power wheels jeep
I've had an 05 xB for 3 years and it's been incredible. 200k miles now
Hi Scotty! Ive been learning from you and being entertained by you for years!
Thanks brother! You are awesome!
A lot of people were/are intrigued and impressed by people who drive these.
A lot of people who have dogs or are into Art love these cars.
I knew a old man in his 60's (about to retire) who drove a 2000's scion, same exact car, but different color, and he said the thing ran like a clock even 20 years later. They are really well made vehicles.
I knew a woman who got nearly 500,000 miles on her Scion before she traded it in. And it didn’t rust to pieces either in Wisconsin. Bravo Toyota!
Only thing you have to watch for is CLEAN OUT the fender DRAINS!
Down by the rocker panels and doors there’s drains clear them out.
Leaves/grass/ whatever from windshield gets washed down the sides behind the fenders and sit
And decay! Then fenders ROT out from behind towards front.
Just move the plastic inner wheel well and spray hose you’ll see all the crap come out in MASS clumps
Must have been one helluva cold front come through there 😂
Thought it was just me. I'm like... Where is it ice in North America RN lol
Funny!
It's August,,,,, ?
😂August ice storms in RI , oh my
I had a 2012 Scion XD with the 1.8. It was a great little car. Handled really well. Wished I would have never traded it in.
Scotty's not kidding when he says Ford can't make cars that don't rust. I live in Ontario. I bought a 2010 Focus brand new. It wasn't a bad car, but at the 10 year mark, it needed some things (wear and tear stuff). My mechanic put it up on the hoist. He said it was rot. He said he wouldn't put the money into it. it only had 130,000 KM'S (80,778 MILES). Turned me off Ford I tell you.
Loved my 2005 XB, manual transmission, 15K brand new. Got a lot of use out of it before I gave it to one of the kids. Engineered to get you from point A to point B for very little money.
Love the xB's, you can mod them with JDM parts and do all kinds of stuff. I have a 1st and 2nd gen on my channel I fix and mod.
I would love to find a beater with a heater to drive back and forth to work that gets good gas mileage...
My favorite toaster car was the honda element with the 5 speed manual. Loved working on those! They even had rubber floors!
Trashcans come in squares too.
All hail the 1NZ-FE; great little engine! 🤙
Have a '10 Yaris approaching 160,000 smiles, been a dang good car, uses about 1/2-3/4 qt of oil at the END of my 5-6,000 mile change intervals, still pulls 35-40mpg combined city/hwy. 👍 Use fully synthetic SuperTech 5W30 oil/Walmart, Toyota oil filters.
I have one of these things a 2006. Bought it in 17' with 145k for $2800 cash, + now it only has 195k..and now I see them selling for $4-7k with more miles than mine has on it.
I got the Bauer 20v 3/8" impact tool and it has more torque than my older corded impact wrench. Plenty of power for most jobs.
Scotty buys a new Silverado: "I'm Sitting in The WORST Truck You Can Buy for $1000 a Month and I'm Mad As Hell and the Industry May Never Recover From This SHOCK."
"LOOKIT this STUPID engine cover! ***rip/toss****"
The sound of SCION power ... Gold digger repellent ~ LOL!
Most dependable engine and car made by Toyota. It has amazing space for a small car. I know, I had 3 of them. Never had one problem. Not the safest car. Which is why I got rid of the last one. If you live in the country, its a great run about. It can also be slightly lifted with bigger tires. Works great on dirt roads!
I agree. I've had 3 of them too. Two Yarises and one Scion XA. Well over 200,000 miles and zero oil leaks, zero suspension issues. But yeah, God forbid you ever get into a serious accident in one... you're definitely gonna be on the losing end LOL
Yawn
I own a 2006 XB with 154,000 miles. Inherited it from my mom God rest her soul. I've been towing my jet ski with the XB, since it's in the water (brackish water), the underneath is rusting. But it runs great
Hey Scotty, my neighbor gave me about a year ago, a 1991 Honda Accord with a manual transmission, some hood rats cut off the converter, I got a pipe welded on it, 3 months later they came back and stole the rest of the car. It had no leaks at all, ran like a champ, 4 months later the impound called and asked if I wanted back but it was in really bad condition, I said no. It was a fun car, it was like going down the freeway in a go-cart.
Can I get my Ford without the factory rust? Sorry, standard equipment!!
I love when you analyze all the data on your expensive obd computer.
You are truly a Maater Docterate of all that is auto technology.
Hey… I rented a bare bones Yaris several years ago in the northwest and that little bug was FUN to drive!
Mine is a 2012 with the 2.4L. Bought it right after the previous owner did the piston rings. No burning oil. Automatic but it does have a paddle shifter. Love my toaster. Gen 2 automatics don’t get enough love.
Got an 06 xb
150k miles so far. Love it.
please do a TOP 10 check point must-dos for buying used cars, TIA
Take the time watch his videos u will learn the top 10. Why spoon feed everything for a casual
How long did Scotty wait to release this video? Is it all icy in August?
It was filmed in early February, after the worst ice storm, ever.
You are the best ❤ Scotty, your videos are life savers
Damn you, I've wanted one since they came out and wondered why they've been so pricy recently...
I always thought the Scion xB had some of that Mini-Cooper coolness happening. Small, lots of space, not much power, decent mpg.
We had an orange 09 honda fit 5 dpd sport that was like that. Exellent car, not mini Cooper shape, but onee of my faves
Not much power = cool? 🤔
The toaster car image was all the rage in the early 2000s. I never really gave these cars a look so I didn't know the extent on how well they were actually built.
When the second Great Depression kicks in, a lot of people will be happy to have something like this.
"I kinda idle up and down too...." 😂🥰....me too Scotty, me too 😂...
😂🤣🤣🤣
I’m the original owner of my 2005 Scion xb and will not give it up. Great in gas, parts are cheap. Just change the oil regularly and it will last forever.
I would have got the honda element if I had been shopping for new cars back then. They are awesome with the manual transmission. And also extremely reliable because the k24.
That beauty's got everything on it, shifts like a dream!
🤣👍
I purchased a NEW 2006 back in the day with a manual tranny and that was a perfect (toaster). Never any problems, but the sheet metal was very tinny when you closed the doors or hatch. Yes, it is an econobox but man the room and I could see everything.
The shop I go to they have one as a loaner and it’s got 289,000 miles on it. Still drives nice
You are lucky to have a shop that will loan you transportation.
@@RobertP-kk5ou they also have a older Honda crv
A older 4 runner like 1998
And a newer 4 runner like a 2004
And the scion
Noticed they pick solid vehicles to buy off ppl when they want to get rid of them
Edit: I have drove them all and was impressed. They all have close to 200,000 or over and still drive great.
I tried to by the 4 runners from them when I was looking for another vehicle and they wouldn’t sell those gems
To save time, I usually play videos in double speed or at least 1.5 but, with this guy, I'm tempted to slow it down a little 🤫
You'd think that cars made in Detroit would stand the Mi. salted roads. Nope, my first car had a hole in the floor. You could see the road, but you could drop your stash thru the hole if cops pulled you over.
I picked up an electric corded 1/2" impact a while back, and recently picked up a 3/8" cordless impact, both from harbor freight and I have no complaints. They both work well and get the job done. I would recommend them to anyone looking for either type any day.
Just got the 1/2 in Bauer impact wrench, works very well And only $50 with the coupon.
I scrolled down to see if anyone else had a good review of the electric impact driver. I typically would use the corded 1/2" but I think that cordless 3/8" would be good for getting into tight spaces. Thanks for your review, sir.
I have an 06 scion xb that would idle up and down. Turned out the idle air control valve was dirty. There's like a little slit in the bottom of the throttle body neck . Sprayed it with carb cleaner twice let it soak about 30 minutes each time, that fixed it. The 5 speed does a lot better, the automatic lacks power
04:17. Scotty .. that picture in the background looks like our earth 🌎🌍🌎🌍🌎🌍
Your focus, comprehensive knowledge base and presentation style makes this a must subscribe channel.
I wish I bought a scion when they first came out. It's a great car with lots of room and head room.
I'm glad I didn't!
@@Nightwish1773good. Now go annoy your mom. 🐒
"It'll keep away the gold diggers." 🤣🤣🤣
😅😅
Why’s Scotty’s videos in the the winter lately 🤔
Scotty's doing it tough, he has to travel the country looking for paying customers 🤷😢
The 2.4 2AZ-FE early models had the oil consumption problem, some were fixed under warranty, check for black gasket sealer, it's what the dealers used when rebuilding the engines, factory gasket sealer is gray (same color of the engine) also the kit to fix the consumption can still be purchased (basically have to rebuild the engine)
My 2010 Matrix had the 2AZ-FE and I never had oil consumption issues. Unfortunately it was rear ended and totaled in 2018 so I never got high mileage on the car. My main problem with the engine was that the gas mileage wasn't too good.
I remember sitting in a Scion at the dealer. The thing was huge inside.
I would drive one.
Same engine in my Toy versa,1.5 has 166k on. Runs great 40mpg.!
I like harbor Freight, but I never gotten any electric tools there that actually lasted more then a couple uses. Sockets, screw drivers, Jack's, clamps, but every time I got an electric tool from them it broke or burned out quickly. Maybe others had better experiences.
I had this car, nice car for the city but horrible car for the highway. wind would knock you back and forth.
Had a 1994 Ford Explorer in Pennsylvania and I took very good care of it for 10 years. Then I noticed it starting to rust out from the inside out. Frame and body panels rusted right through from the inside!
Pennsylvania is a hellhole. I feel so bad for any car that subjected to live and drive on those roads, including mine right now. God blessings to anyone who was stuck here even if it's temporary, including myself.
I'm telling you Scotty, I'll like 👍 every one of these cheap car vids you come up with
I've been looking off and on for one of these. They're ugly but they are small and easy to park so if they run it's perfect for a run around town car.
Is it winter in Tennessee? lol😮
@:28, my ‘05 Scion Xa has the exact same engine (1NZFE). Those things are bombproof if you just THINK about taking care of them. Only problem I know of is the Takata Airbags being recalled, and the cap over the rear hatch release (on ALL scions) going bad.
Toaster on wheels.
I like that.
LOL! Ultimate Superpower driving this car - "Keeps gold diggers away from you" sounds like a great value to me!
Too bad some people that take their cars to Scotty look like they haven't been cleaned in years. If they can't keep a car clean and take care of it they probably don't service it like they should as well.
He said the guy was given for free this car from his roommate, so maybe he didn't clean it out yet?
He also said, the dude was living in it.
Mine has never seen the inside of my garage----No room, like most people without a basement.
@@seanthegod4585 that's even worse, lol. It was filthy. He drove quite a way, you have to set up an appointment with Scotty in advance, so I'm sure he had time.
Thank you very much for sharing your sharp insights with the world.
Had one of these. Pretty slow but it was reliable
I'm not here to judge anyone since my gipsy 2001 opel astra is kinda messed up too, but that car is so dirty inside that some crackheads would live in and feel like they are home!
Where do you have ice right now??? I'm in Canada and the only ice is in a freezer.
Toyota and Honda is all I deal with.
It's winter in Scotty's world.
Most Scion xB's first and second Gen are going from $3k to $14k
The prices are stupidly high for the mileage too. Here in NJ the ones on Craigslist are all 200k+ miles and all over $2k
$2k is fair, I got my camry with 220k miles for 1.6k 10 yr ago
I wondering how you just released this video in August with ice on the car and I'm sittin down here in Florida and it's 144° outside. 🥵🤣
It was filmed back in early February, after the worst ice storm, ever. 🥶
These scion XB are just YARIS SUVs!
Both get 400-450 miles to tank and tank holds 10.8-11 gallons
Both 1.5l engines and
Both have instrument panels in middle!
And they RUN like energizer BUNNY!
😂
Love your video keep up the good work, thank you.
Another reason to go with the older technology is the longevity, as Scotty said. Go with manual and have fun.
Me thinking Scotty is finally gonna talk about the Mazda MX6 and Ford Probe. Probably never gonna happen.
Enough horsepower to drive to a hot dog stand and eat a hot dog without ketchup. 🌭🚗👍
i would have bought one if i ever saw one for sale. slow is okay for me, i'm no race car driver. i like cheap and reliable!
I want that scan tool so, so bad, but I'm sure it's expensive as hell.
I'm might buy a 1989 Ford f-150 5.0l 8cy Lariat LB with 99,000mi. Little rust, clean interior, good tires, drives & runs w/high idle but runs strong, may have vacuum leak? Shifts good, brakes good, mostly sitting for about year. Wants $1800. What cost could be if vacuum leak and for fluids & hoses change if sat alot more then believes.
Oh, it has a automatic transmission.
Just looked these up, not cheap in my area...
"What do we need?"
"MORE POWER!"
I had 2006 XB until my son totaled it at 265,000. Regular maintenance done only
Faster than a mail truck 🤣🤣
Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.
I buy American made " old folks boat cars" with +- 30-50 K on them. Drive them for 100K, and save boatloads of money in the end. 50% or less of new, 1/2 price insurance in comparison to rice burners. My 2014 Impala, V6, 305hp, gets me a nice smooth ride, 24mpg avg., 87k, and on original brakes.
Pimpin!
I remember when they first came out at the Chicago autoshow. I've always wanted one but they want too much for good examples
These are just as good as the HONDA ELEMENTS
Just lower to the ground
My family of 4 traveled in an '06 xB for 10 years. That little car was built like a tank. Worst thing I had to do to it was replace the belts. Otherwise, oil, tires, brakes and filters.
Other hidden stuff: Lincoln MKZ, Pontiac G6 GT Coupe, Pontiac G5, Hyundai Elantra GT Coupe, Honda Fit & Kia Sportage.
I have a 2006 Xb with only 37,560 miles on the ticker, ultra low mileage Florida car. No rust almost new. I regularly get $7k offers for it...
Stick shift----I'd be interested.
Good to see Toyota learned something from the Tacoma frame rusting debacle.
Imagine giving your car away for free or even just a few hundred dollars before the pandemic and now were worth a hefty down payment on a home or another vehicle 😂
108 hp!!!!!! 😂😂😂
Get on the interstate with that thing you'll get ran over! 😂
No, I've gotten it up to 90mph on the tollway. 😎
I've got an xA and I had a Hummer drafting off me on the freeway... or was he just tailgating?😂
I posted several comments about my Mini Cooper showing the white, engine light coming on and staying on the dash. I went to get an oil change at the dealer, and within 2 days, that light went away. The dealer gave me a long list of procedures I should do to my car, which totaled $8.7K. It is the current value of the car. Yes, I know it leaks but I am checking the oil level and add it as needed. The people are pushing to sell their new cars. They have a lot full of them and I see no one buying. For the next oil change, I will stay away from the dealer. Garages, often do not have the proper filter so they have to get it from the dealer, well, I will just have to wait. Never again, will I set my feet back in that dealer.ship I had told them I did not want an eval of my car but they evidently did it anyway. I only paid for the oil change which was $100. So happy to see that engine light go away !!! I think old dirty oil was the culprit. I had almost 5K since the last oil change , mostly stop and drive short distance, never opening it all up......
Cool good info thanks Scotty
Check the air filter
5:39 Someone converted a clock as a speedometer on an instrument panel.
Around these parts, those Scion cars demand big $$$$$$
I have a scion tc with the 2.4 (was also in the camry) as long as you check the oil level and top it off every couple weeks they can last the life of the car.
Me: "Scotty said I'm stupid again."
My Therapist: "Now, now....Scotty's opinion of you is none of your business."

The Astra XR Coupe is a tuner car.
