CORRECTIONS: Annoyingly this one was recorded just BEFORE they announced the new 'Armour of Contempt' rule to reduce most AP by -1. Most things remain very similar, but here are a few more thoughts...
    - Storm shields are now a lot more passable, not useless, but no longer auto-include.
    - Anything with a 2+ armour save got a little better comparatively, and invulns saves are a little less important than before.
    - Very high AP things like hellblasters, eradicators are perhaps a little more valuable in combatting enemy Armour of Contempt.
Let me know anything else you think has changed down in the comments!

With the Bodyguard rule change, Company Veterans are perhaps even less useful then they were before. Not the worst units but without the old bodyguard rule they're quite meh and can't really do the out of line of sight trick anymore and aren't any good vs. character snipers.

I’d also like to see how a lot of melee weapons stack up with armor of contempt. All melee weapons got a lot worse against power armor, with the worst hit arguably being the thunder hammer (going to ap -1 without assualt doctrine).
For space marines, this can mean rushing to assault doctrine turn 3 or using strats or abilities to get there quickly will be really important for more melee focused marine armies.
Also smash captains with thunder hammers won’t be as effective and, maybe, the burning blade will see some use so you can reliably cut through hard targets.

Why even bother with this? We know there's a new codex coming somewhere not too far down the road, probably before the poor Guard even see their first one. Armor of Contempt has also had enormous detrimental impact on low-AP weapons in the meta, so even in a Marine army all the -1 AP weapons are much worse than they were while the 0 AP stuff is marginally less dreadful by comparison. There are a lot of both in a Marine list. The fact that their vehicles also benefit makes them all significantly better since they're effectively getting a free +1 save against every single AT weapon in the game, as well as being less vulnerable to a lot of the massed low-AP shooting out there.

Armor of Contempt is giving me a lot of consideration for combat-squadding a 10-brick of Relic Terminators for my White Scars- half of them have all of the guns (Plas-blaster, Chaincannon, 2x Grenade Harnesses and 3 Storm Bolters, Lightning Claw in the other hand) and half have double Lightning Claw.
For 350 points, you've got 5 guys 3W a pop with effectively a 1+ in cover putting down quite a bit of mixed firepower (they can even Advance and shoot without penalty at the cost of the Storm Bolters), and another 5 who are just straight punchers that hit as hard as Vanguard Veterans that can deepstrike into range of a Chaplain's Canticle of Hate to get +2 on the charge (or have a Librarian give them Ride the Winds for the same effect).
The main drawback, of course, is that these fuckers are M 5". Even White Scars struggle to help them on that front.

Thoughts on Ironclads in Dreadnought Drop Pods? Gets them close right off the bat (and with 2x heavy flamers can deal nasty damage as Salamanders). Also, using chainfist + DCCW for reroll 1s in melee combined with Master Artisans and Whirlwind of Rage gives 5A on the charge, rerolling all 1s and a 2, with exploding 6s, for flat 6 damage a pop into something big and heavy. The T8 has also been big for durability in my experience so far (all the S4 firepower goes to 6s to wound, S7 and S8 both take a -1 to wound and there is a lot of S8 AV firepower around), so it's a lot tougher than normal dreads when comparing to the shear wound durability of the Redemptor (which I would say definitely is better if you're starting off on the field).

Then they say, well if it isn’t 100% GW. You now can’t use them in a tournament. 😳 but it’s okay. Because now we’ll sale them to you again. Everybody goes out and buys them. Yep, we’re dead again. Managed to one shot the silent king with that particular combo once, equipped with the hurricane bolters and flamethrowers You can pop veil of time on them with your librarian, as well as null zone to eliminate invul saves from units. I generally run a 3-4 man bike squad with chainswords in addition to an attack bike with multi-melta. It's a pretty good all rounder with the twin bolter gun shots and can even offer some decent fast moving melee. But for my iron hands it's truthfully great protection for the attack bike while it's a cheeky heavy weapon putting some damage on the opposition, the bikes offer a protection of bodies.

Keeping these vehicles alive on the move was amazing utility, and perhaps a thing that's missing in this 9th, great you have a techmarine, how do you keep it in range of your vehicles on the move?
Do you play a sort of front line back line game, advancing with some vehicles, retreating them for repairs at the techmarine castle?
Or do you focus on dreadnoughts instead...

Since the indirect nerf about storm shield, i wonder about playing 6 centurions instead of my 10 terminators with shield and hammer, all in Black templars. They are pretty interesting with more PV and a better toughness. Contrary to assault terminators they have a pretty good shoot phase. The sergeant keep an insane save thanks to Heinmann and the vow's invul. Do you think it's a good idea ?

    • @dalecal1129
      @dalecal1129 2 года назад +1

Yeah, I wouldn't even run thunder hammers with assault termies anymore. The shield's 4+ invul is still worth considering for most units, but terminators have a 2+ save and a 5+ invul already built in, so I personally don't think the hammer loadout is worth the points anymore. You'll get more out of the centurions, especially because the centurion squad is a full 100 points cheaper than the termies (if you don't take meltas), so you could even take something like a bike squad on top of it.

I actually would not even bother with the invuln vow now, 5++ and semi transhuman is far less useful than auto wounding or always on assault doctrine. I mean if you are running 2+ save models the 5++ will only matter against ap -5 or more. Not to mention you lose cover.

I do think Scout Bikes have a home in Black Templars lists... 3-4 attacks on the charge and 6 shots apiece (2 of which can be Damage 2 with Incendiary Shells) makes for a pretty good in-your-face unit with a long threat range. If you're taking a big unit, it can be hard to keep them concealed if you go second, but being able to move up 22" and dump 54 shots on something (or several somethings) is pretty good. Outflank and Shoot/Charge can be pretty good too, especially if you have a big enough unit that you weren't going to be able to keep them safe until they could get into combat.

For example, Aggressors can shoot while engaged at BS 5+ during the Tactical Doctrine with a +1 to hit if they didn't move, which doesn't matter if you took flamers or you could go with Storm Bolters, hitting on 4+ or 5+ while engaged and gaining the extra -1 AP for the Doctrine plus they have the Power Fists and Grenade Launchers. Dark Angel Eradicators can also Shoot while engaged if they are equipped with the Assault versions. Both units are Gravis which gives them the bonus armor save.
Dark Angels BGV with Transhuman are also decent Staple. For DA Intercessors I prefer the Rapid-Fire version since they like to stand still for the +1 to hit and can shoot them while engaged. Anything with Plasma in volume, preferably with Vehicles, is good for the WotDA strat.
Ezekial is an auto include and Lazarus for the Save vs MWs.
This is with the Armor of Contempt in mind.

Problem with Greenwing is that it's a reactive army. You're holding still to shoot.. so you're not chasing objectives, and simply hoping your opponent is dumb enough to charge your shooty units.

For the Assault Intercessor you forgot the power of the genes (1CP) : the hit of 6 automatically wounds.
You pay it once , spam A on charge , and if it's not enought you can fight again under the stratagem without paying him a second time !

I really wish they would do something beneficial with landraiders, rhinos, predators and vindicators. I know they are vehicles that have been surpassed by The newer stuff but they are still the main tanks and transports for the heretic astartes which suffer from the lack lust intrest in fixing them units in the space marines book.
They either need a rules write for chaos only or bring out new tank and transport kits for the spiky bios.

Yup, so... Perhaps... A kill Spectrus team with...
4 eliminators with your favorite weapon load out. Combat Squad them with the Infiltrator Comms Array model.
Grant the Elim unit omni scrambler to edge out deep strikes.
Gain the buffs from Phobos Capt/LT without needing to keep one of them nearby...
The infiltrator combat squad, perhaps with a reiver or an incursor... Can deploy as necessary appears that the incursor will retain concealed positions... Does the unit benefit from Concelaed or Grapnel or Death from above... If mixed?
1 I cursor for the multispectrum array? Only if it applies to the eliminator... Which it seems it does not?
    In which case,
Swap it out for a spare infiltrator or one reiver...

  • @jossypoo
    @jossypoo 2 года назад

I tried a Phobos synergy recently and can absolutely agree, Comms Array isn't worth building around.
To keep applicable, you need a phobos captain and a phobos lieutenant, neither of which is incredibly useful.
Even the obscuration discipline working on Keyword Phobos wasn't enough to balance the loss of two HQ slots.
