because of the editing of this video, i realised i missed off talking about some of the bugs and glitches i saw (re-recorded my voice and forgot i hadn’t mentioned it in the new recording) BUT i had one pretty bad bug where my sim would get on the horse and then spawn off it and be standing again. it did it repeatedly until i closed the game and restarted (but it allowed me to save and everything). then my sim got trapped in a competition and were shadowed out as if they were away from the lot even though the comp had finished and my horse was back, but again i was able to save and reload and it fixed it. those were the two main issues i ran into other than the horse routing being a bit funky sometimes with them walking in circles and walking through large objects in the world and the ranch hand issues i mentioned
they age up automatically after about a week on normal lifespan (not sure about the length of the others) or you can feed them an age up treat from the corner shop
Awesome that you can check a horse's needs by hovering over them with the cursor. Hopefully Cats and Dogs gets updated to allow the same for our pets, but I'm not holding my breath.
The panel that shows horses traits, skills, age, race and more also could be adapted for cats and dogs. It's a pain remember all this info after a really long time!
Yes! My thoughts exactly. We definitely need the hover over for needs with cats & dogs. Also I'd love them to adapt the farmhand into a pet sitter/dog walker for the pets we already have. I've tried playing with multiple dogs & it's near impossible to care for them + do anything else for your sims & they run away so quickly.
I just get this weird feeling that this was originally meant to be a GP and the budget got out of hand, so they had to make the decision to either bulk it up to an EP or cut a lot of what would’ve made Horses fun. I just think some of the creative decisions like adding Nector (even if it’s fun) don’t make sense for this world and the theme. Would also have liked to have seen more Native American rep, but I think the Snowy Escape issues had an effect on doing that more directly.

I don’t want to get into it too much because it is a complicated issue and I’m not part of either culture, but if you Google Snowy Escape and controversy you will find more info.
@alison247mitzy2 thank you for explaining. I could see how easily that could happen with us too, I'm Alaskan Native. They could have expanded on wood working to add wall decor for your home. I don't see how that could be controversial. Not even all of what they add has to be for Native Americans, so you could choose according to what ethnicity your sim is. Plus, tourists buy our carvings and jewelry all the time, so it wouldn't even be offensive that non-natives had Native carvings in their home. They could add a radio station for us by working with A Tribe Called Red. Or Air Jazz, a rapper from Junea, AK who raps in Tlingit. A language that is on the verge of being extinct with only 200 fluent speakers alive today. They could give us tribal tattoos like they did for Islanders in Island Living. I want (1,2, or 3) lines on the chins on my female Native sims to represent the multiple tribes in Alaska that have this tradion, including the tribe I am part of. I also want face paint of a red hand print over the mouth to share awareness for our missing and murdered indigenous women and children. Which is essentially a holiday to us at this point. It's called orange shirt day. It also honors the children who never made it back from the residential schools. I myself am only alive today because my grandmother made it home. They could even make us a very specific orange shirt for that occasion. They could actually make weaving a thing. Instead of just giving us a non-active object in knifty knitting. I'd love to make cedar hats, bow ties, baskets, and more. Insents are already in the game. They could give us the ability to burn sage to cleanse our homes with it. We even sage the groom and bride at the altar before the wedding. They could even give us more appropriate attire to wear during the wedding like buck skin dresses with beading and moccasins. Or seal skin dress and actual Native jewelry. Again, this should not be offensive to us if a non-native wears the jewlery because we sell them. Alaskan Natives depend on fish and so many other things from the sea. There isn't even a fishing spot in this world. They could give us the ability to jar smoked salmon with the canning from Cottage Living. None of this is making us worship totem poles or something that we don't actually do that would be offensive. These things just give us representation. And none of this is directed at you. It's for the Sims team if they ever see it. I know I'll never see a drumming circle or see women performing in jingle dresses or hear my sim sing a war cry. I just want the same representation I see other cultures get in this game. While all I have is a Native Ways handmade rug, and finally got three hair styles and a chili.
The nectar thing definitely couldve been part of a pack thats heavily inspired by italian or french culture since those are like the biggest wine makers in the industry. I think moonshine making wouldve fit more than wine/"nectar" but it's sims after all and they're keeping it family friendly.
The inclusion of nectar making in this pack is oddly random as the world looks desert like which doesn’t seem suited for vineyards and nectar cellars. The world of Tartosa or even Windenberg would have made more sense and a better fit than Dude Ranch world.
i think it's really interesting that when you rescue a horse they have more difficult traits ! a really cool cross-compatibility feature which i'd love (but i'm not holding my breath for) is that if you have growing together, and the horse leans more toward a different positive trait, you get that same "self-discovery" popup asking if their trait should change. would be even better if that could be the case for cats and dogs traits too. again, i doubt they'd actually add that but i thought i'd share the idea
I wish they changed the game so the pets was kinda like an add on like they don't take over a family member slot cause I personally like making big families but 2 to more slots will be taken over by horses/cats/dogs I wish they didnt get to take over the family member slot and they just had a little picture like in the slot but above the family so you can grow your family but still have pets

I love the painted horse sculpture in front of the equestrian center because it feels like a nod to Lexington, KY which is a place I have been multiple times
Honestly, one of my biggest complaints is not actually being able to train kids to ride horses. That seems like a miss. Some of the other rabbit hole experiences are fine. I am not against rabbit holes or loading screens entirely, but when they stand in/interrupt a missed opportunity it's frustrating.
The town is so deserted. I don't see people walking about like in cottage living. They should call it a western "ghost town". Lol couldn't help myself.
Imagine if they had also made ponies just for kids to ride, but the kids could do everything with them, including entering junior championships (you know, like in real life). They could have had a Riding Club that they go to after school to improve their skill, and then they could do competitions on the weekends.
I like that the aspirations are actually difficult they do resemble TS3 which i prefer, most of the time the aspirations are kinda annoying with all the ministeps, I like to have big difficult tasks/goals rather than mini ones, it makes it more freeing to get there instead of having to complete so many things in between, thank god there's a mod that fixes the aspirations and adds new ones, but it's good that they went back to TS3 formula
RDR2 made me super into cowboys and horses and all that good stuff, so I’m super hyped for this pack! I hope my favourite horse breed (the North Swedish Horse, a traditional Swedish working horse) is included, if not I guess I’ll have to recreate it.
I was initially excited to see different breeds (my favorite being the gypsy cob) but I'm sad that all the horses seem to have the same model without major differences like height or weight. 😭

so for some reason growing together was still installed on my early access build (i think i messed up with files). so those are still growing together exclusive features, but if you have both growing together and horse ranch this is the sort of cross-pack you'll see. i'm so used to seeing them in my game that i fully forgot to point that out in the video.
There is no magic circle? There was an early comment about a circle and Native / Indigenous people. I saw nothing in your review so it must have gone the way of the unicorn down the rabbit-hole of doomed ideas. So we can just use the pack as an extension of cottage living. Setup a farm with produce. Fill it with cows chickens LLamas and the mico-fuana of the wild gulch lands. Hire a handy guy with 2 day work visa to take care of the your animal herd. I see lots of potential gameplay.
ye i forgot to mention but the horses can change moods. it doesn’t really do much other than change the way they are animated for example sad horses will walk a lot of the time with their heads down. and then your sims can cheer them up but a lot of the moods are just changed by the same socialisation
my guess is they gave us aesthetic unicorns now and will give us proper unicorns in a later pack (fairies maybe 👀👀), the same way they gave us aesthetic foxes with cats and dogs and then gave us proper foxes in cottage living.
if i'm remembering correctly i don't think we can sell the eco lifestyle juice bc it counts it as a consumable right? so i assume this would work the same
@@EnglishSimmerright, but If i'm not wrong, the fizzy juice introduced in the eco lifestyle can spoil. And as I can see in this video, there's not a spoil countdown shown on the nectar item description. So maybe we actually will be able to sell it? But I guess the time will show.
I know it's the bare minimum but I'm pleasantly surprised this EP most likely comes with bearable amount of bugs which doesn't seem to be gamebreaking and can probably be fixed. The pre-recorded livestream and late "early" access gave me a scare. I'm glad to see EA most likely didn't release another completely broken pack.

I know you didn't have the other packs but do you know if the occult specific nectars are tied to their own occult (only vampires can make plasma nectar etc)? I really want to make all of them without needing all the occults
i‘m gonna say it: this is such a clear display of ea‘s capitalist greed (not aimed at the sims team but ea itself) - they split up pets into 3 different packs (cats & dogs, cottage loving & horse ranch) - one pack that delivered all of these features for $40 is now being sold for $120 - nah it’s so frustrating and one of the reasons why i rarely play ts4 anymore. i hope the sims 5 does better on the content the team can actually put into the pack
slight correction: 4! They split it into 4 different packs. 3 Expansion packs and the infamous My first pet stuff for the rodents. And they didn't even do it well. There are still animals/pets missing. I'm so annoyed. -.-
I want unicorns :(( I love love love love animals. Basically the only thing I do in the sims 4 is build a huge mansion with 500 pets. I’m super happy about the ranch hand and I hope they will care for all animals and not just horses. But I wish we could get more animals. I’d love to see a zoo game pack where we can see exotic animals and have an animal rescue career. Plus zoo lots would add SO much gameplay

The pack is unplayable for me and others. Interaction bubbles are blank and items all say debug. I’m not sure what to do or who to reach out to for a possible fix. I don’t use mods so I know that isn’t it.
me too! really was hoping with the more active stuff we’ve had recently like prom and village fairs that competitions would have actually been a thing you could fully participate in and watch your sim do, especially with the barrels and jumps being RIGHT THERE. i like how the competition system works, i just wish a couple of them were active for balance

I was terrified when there was no early access vids and marketing seems to be minimal as well, no hype on Twitter by gurus. I guess it's a good strategy to be secretive, getting everyone to expect this to be Wedding Stories 2.0 and then it being ok seems like it's fantastic😂
I don’t think it’s realistic to force equestrians to master all four events in order to enter the championship. English and western riders don’t crossover with regards to riding disciplines. If they wanted to do a western pack they should have replaced showjumping with roping and endurance racing with cutting.
Showjumping is not a western discipline and it seems like endurance racing would be more like the cross country aspect of eventing. It’s very irritating to see western riders doing showjumping. That’s just animal cruelty to me.

they can but there's BARELY a difference. their pupils are huge and there's the slightest colour change around the very outside of the eye but you cannot make it out unless you're watching v v closely
I want an update for dogs see the their needs and skills too. 🥲 Edit: I´m also disappointed that there are no new carries I would´ve liked to see a riding teacher carrier or even the ranch hand as a carrier (would be a nice carrier for teens).

When I played after the patch I didn't notice it showing their needs, but if I hovered over the icon it did tell me their mood which I think is new

Maxis missed the chance to have a new woohoo with the prairie grass. The Sims could roll in the hay.
This is not enough gameplay for an expansion considering what is available with game packs.
I’m glad that they gave us some smaller-ish aspirations, I feel like some of the ones we have are way to long to complete

Just seeing sims ride horses and stroll around is already beautiful.

I know it's the bare minimum but I'm pleasantly surprised this EP most likely comes with bearable amount of bugs which doesn't seem to be gamebreaking and can probably be fixed. The pre-recorded livestream and late "early" access gave me a scare. I'm glad to see EA most likely didn't release another completely broken pack.
i fully forgot to mention it but i had one pretty bad bug where my sim would get on the horse and then spawn off it and be standing again. it did it repeatedly until i closed the game and restarted (but it allowed me to save and everything). then my sim got trapped in a competition and were shadowed out as if they were away from the lot even though the comp had finished and my horse was back, but again i was able to save and reload and it fixed it. those were the two main issues i ran into other than the horse routing being a bit funky sometimes with them walking in circles and walking through large objects in the world and the ranch hand issues i mentioned

I know you didn't have the other packs but do you know if the occult specific nectars are tied to their own occult (only vampires can make plasma nectar etc)? I really want to make all of them without needing all the occults

i‘m gonna say it: this is such a clear display of ea‘s capitalist greed (not aimed at the sims team but ea itself) - they split up pets into 3 different packs (cats & dogs, cottage loving & horse ranch) - one pack that delivered all of these features for $40 is now being sold for $120 - nah it’s so frustrating and one of the reasons why i rarely play ts4 anymore. i hope the sims 5 does better on the content the team can actually put into the pack
slight correction: 4! They split it into 4 different packs. 3 Expansion packs and the infamous My first pet stuff for the rodents. And they didn't even do it well. There are still animals/pets missing. I'm so annoyed. -.-

I love love love love animals. Basically the only thing I do in the sims 4 is build a huge mansion with 500 pets. I’m super happy about the ranch hand and I hope they will care for all animals and not just horses.
But I wish we could get more animals. I’d love to see a zoo game pack where we can see exotic animals and have an animal rescue career. Plus zoo lots would add SO much gameplay
I believe in Lilsimsies review or livestream she said that horses drinking water actually helped them with their exhaustion need!

The pack is unplayable for me and others. Interaction bubbles are blank and items all say debug. I’m not sure what to do or who to reach out to for a possible fix. I don’t use mods so I know that isn’t it.

The equestrian centre is so disappointing imo
me too! really was hoping with the more active stuff we’ve had recently like prom and village fairs that competitions would have actually been a thing you could fully participate in and watch your sim do, especially with the barrels and jumps being RIGHT THERE. i like how the competition system works, i just wish a couple of them were active for balance

it just depends on lifespan but you’ll just get a notification. or if you wanna age ur goals up straight away, there’s a treat sold at the food shop

I don’t think it’s realistic to force equestrians to master all four events in order to enter the championship. English and western riders don’t crossover with regards to riding disciplines. If they wanted to do a western pack they should have replaced showjumping with roping and endurance racing with cutting.

it’s focused on western riding and disciplines and dressage is a classic english discipline
Showjumping is not a western discipline and it seems like endurance racing would be more like the cross country aspect of eventing. It’s very irritating to see western riders doing showjumping. That’s just animal cruelty to me.

they can but there's BARELY a difference. their pupils are huge and there's the slightest colour change around the very outside of the eye but you cannot make it out unless you're watching v v closely
