Thanks for the comparative review. When I was shopping for my first Leica rangefinder, I considered all six of the ones in this video. I eventually narrowed it down to the MP, M2, and M6. I decided to buy the first one I could find in good condition and at a fair price. The first I found was a titanium M6 classic.
first off all great English ! secondly I've watched few your vids so far yet already developed (pun of course intended) a strong liking of overall esthetics of your clips and easygoing friendly monologue / great job !
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah the packaging is lovely, tiny compare to the current Leica packaging for their m cameras. How do you like your m11? I’ve been eyeing for one for awhile, only thing that leaves me in doubt is that always on live view.
@@JimmyCheng Hi Jimmy, the M11 is great, I have the black version, so it is light and the paint finish seems very durable, I have shot about 3,000 shots so far. However, it is my second body as my first M11 locked up / "bricked" and nothing would fix it so Leica send out a replacement. This happened to my friend's version too. However the replacement is 4 months old with no issues. It has worked in very cold weather and the battery life is great. The live view is easy to switch off with the touch screen, so that shouldn't be a problem. Exposure is reliable on aperture priority, I am lazy and tend to ride the Auto ISO, also the ability to automatically switch to electronic shutter means that you can enjoy 1/16,000 of a second exposure so no problems using fast glass wide open in full sun. Obviously it works perfectly in full manual. I have the new EVF viewfinder accessory which is very good (especially the tilt feature which is great for low shots), but not as excellent as the EVF on my original Leica SL. The sensor is great in low light so no problems there. The only thing that would make me wait if I was in your position is that I would love to see an M11P with a black paint finish over a brass body with the Leica name engraved on the top and no red dot... but that's just vanity! Keep up the great videos. I enjoy the fact that some aren't in English and are subtitled, I only speak English and a little French and German, so I always admire people who are truly bilingual and you are clearly one of those great guys on the internet!
@@marcusoutdoors4999 wow thank you so much for sharing all this information. I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I’ll probably wait for a bit and see if I need one (probably never truly need a Leica lol)
Hi jimmy, been enjoying your content. I subscribed and very curious on the lenses from Black Friday. I’m shooting the m4 but yet to use it over on my channel. Curious if you’ve considered testing the new Nokton 35mm 1.5 ii ? From what I’m hearing it’s meant to be sweet. Keep up the great work and happy new year from Ireland. Cheers
Hi Jimmy, really nice video! I'm also planing to get a new M6, just wondering whether the rangefinder on the new M6 is the same one on MP? How is the flare compared with MP and the old M6? I heard the old M6 suffer from the flare issue. I'm kinda between a new M6 and MP and need to choose from one of them. 😂
I am still keeping the silver M6 purchased new in 1990. I think the newly developed “matt black” color is also used on their limited edition of the 28 mm Summicron and the earlier Q-P. My M9 black paint doesn’t look too shiny and doesn’t brass-out that easily compared to the older models.
yeah m240 and m9 black paint are not as glossy as the mp or m10-r black paint. I don't think q-p and 28mm summicron use the same paint job. I've had Q-P before and it definitely felt different.
Hi! love the videos, I wanted to ask, how is the use of plastic on the Leica m6 internally? As an M3 owner, I am keen to get an M camera with the quick reload system, so am looking into a Leica M4, Leica M6 Titanium, or a new Leica M6. Use of plastic is probably minimal on the M4, but the M6 has new parts that could potentially be reparable, but might feel...not as nice? I wanted to ask you, since you have a lot haha. cheers! edit: i put these choices out, but i wanted to say that I don't care for a light metre either, so I can work with a Leica MA as well!
All m cameras after the m4 started to incorporate more plastic, but that’s just how the industry progressed. Take for example the frame counter, they were metal on m2/3/4. But I don’t they you’ll notice them. The new M6, as well as M-A or M-P feels as well made as the previous ones. The back iso dial is probably the only thing that you can touch that’s plastic on m6/p but metal on M-A. So if you’re into details the M-A probably feel closest to m3/2/4.
@@JimmyCheng yeah, i think i'll narrow it down to M-A, new M6, and maybe a black chrome M4 (i just really love that camera for some reason). but i am a bit worried about their QC as of late, probably will buy it secondhand to be safe.
M7 has an electronic shutter, maybe a bit quieter than the mecanical, realy dont get it why leica did not improve on the M7 and lets say made a new shutter dial with half stops that were only accesible on the auto shutter mode. (1/60 and 125 is mecanical on the M7)
I haven’t got the time to shoot with it yet, but I believe it’s an issue that plagued all new Leica film cameras. My M-A I bought 2 years ago suffered from this issue. My M-P I bought last year doesn’t(but others have reported this issue). So it’s like a lottery.
@@JimmyCheng Thanks. A bit disappointing that this company is no longer able to solve that issue after so many years, especially with a $5000 price tag. Would be great if you can shortly update after your first film check.
@@ytuberization yeah for sure. Leica is no longer the company it used to be, just take a look at my latest short video about the reissued steel rim, the QC is a joke.

Congrats on the new pickup ✌️
Thank you!

yes the m6 is just a re-skinned m-p. So it’s got the improved rangefinder with no “white-out”.

what's the paint for ma? is it close to mp or close to m6 re-issue?
black ma is black chrome not black paint unfortunately.
Amazing collection

There are reports that the New M6 is scratching the film: Any observations from your camera in that direction? Many thanks.

Does it scratch your film? I know people over at l-camera-forum reported about 50% of the cameras scratch the film.
