I see some comments that think Ohtani lied, but he did not. The Japanese language often omits the subject in a sentence. He said," (someone) talked to the fan; I heard (the person) giving (the ball) back." Ohtani didn't say the words in parentheses. "ということだったので、" means the message was relayed to him. No one lied; it was just a misunderstanding, and this shouldn't even be a big deal. The interpreter and the reporter assumed what was said instead of clarifying the subject. It's hard to translate when two languages have differences in structure.

It’s a huge reason myself and many other people go to baseball games. You can argue baseball can be very boring… even the NFL is getting beyond soft.
I go to many MLB games, with family and friends. I grew up bringing gloves to games talking about catching (keeping baseballs).
If MLB made a rule saying they can confiscate the baseball back from you (also meaning they can call security/police) if you refuse to give it back…
MLB attendance will drop heavily. I’d boycott going into the stadiums right there for life.
If Shohei or another player wants their baseball back so badly (if someone refuses to give it up), they can buy it back. It will cost less to buy their baseball back than it costs me to buy a hotdog at the stadium comparing salaries.
Also, if I was her I’m keeping the ball. It would have been a smarter decision for her. I’d still make a great attempt to give the ball back to Shohei… I would just not be pressured at all by this crappy Dodgers staff to make a decision like that in a minute. Like someone else said in a comment, after their first offer of 2 baseball caps I would write my phone number down and walk away.

It is clear that she and her husband are just good people and good Dodger fans. She was in the right place, at the right time, good for her. But from the story she told, they took advantage of her in I would say a bad way.
    1. Her husband can't come with her? That's just bad.... really bad.
    2. If she doesn't take what they're offering they won't authenticate the ball? That isn't an MLB policy, is it a Dodger policy? Or was this guy just being an ass?
    3. Sounds to me like the big thing she wanted was to meet Ohtani-san after the game, get her picture with him, then accept a different ball with his autograph. I'll bet that she would have loved to get the picture printed and then sent it to the Dodgers and they would have him sign the picture with something like " Thanks for my first Dodger home run ball Ambar, you're the best" and signed it, then sent it back to her. Ambar would have been in Dodger heaven. Perhaps also sent her an Ohtani jersey, she would cherish that for life.
Just my opinion. The strong arming is what amazed me and upset me the most.

Well at least she got a bat signed, ball signed and 2 caps signed. At least she got compensated for the 1st ever HR that Ohtani hit as a Dodger. She might have been able to have it authenticated because she was on the big screen when she raised that ball up in the air for everyone can witness. But she made the right decision overall because even if she proved that was the ball that Ohtani hit that still would be doubts whoever was going to buy that ball that in the long run. They would say that the ball was switch over. It definitely would have been hard to prove it’s the real McCoy!!! And the Dodgers organization’s was just going to deny that’s not the ball that Ohtani hit the HR with. That’s the reason why they were never going to back up her claim with no authentication letter or a sealed serial sticker with the logo mark for it. At least she got to hold the Holy Grail baseball for 10 minutes LOL. I think she made the right choice. If she was going to keep it, the value would have gone down a lot. Good decision 👍!!! 💯🔥🤘

With hindsight, I would now IMMEDIATELY film myself initialling it and have that mark and the geo-data on the recording serve as my authentication for selling it for auction. Probably Ohtani would reach out and offer $20,000 for it easily, before it got auctioned. She should have at least called her husband on the phone during her five minutes to think about it. Ohtani is not getting that ball back unless he takes a picture with me! What the heck?

If he wants the ball, it’s the least he can do. She had the most leverage. I would of held out, and sell it on eBay

Shame on the Dodgers for treating a lifelong fan this way. What a turn off.

Shoutout to her for not automatically looking for a quick pay day. She could sell everything for a good amount of money like Dmac said, hope shohei reaches out.

I was part of the blogger community more than a decade ago (18 years ago...) the PR department back then for what ever reason was actually really good... I'd like to think they're going to take care of her once the dust settles... (with everything that is going on behind the season with Ohtani and his former interpreter) I think the people handling this did a poor job -- The young lady handled her self with much more dignity than the Dodger employees...

oh man, I just watched most of this interview... this is a corporate entity (to its core) the action of the Dodger staff is like -- we're putting a winning product on the field & be happy with that... *ugh* * this culture comes straight from the top and trickles down to there employees...* I'm more of a moderate fan these days but back then this would have broken my heart... This young lady bleeds Dodger Blue like I did... and she gets rewarded with cold hearted B$

The merch isn’t even authenticated! I’d be furious, you are letting the Dodgers org off the hook big time. $35 for parking and they couldn’t hook her up?

@@softwelveone absolutely -- This could have been a great FEEL GOOD BY OSMOSIS (it actually was with this interview) but the general public doesn't see this, I really hope Ohtani's people reach out! that young man has a keeper for a wife!!

For a franchise to bully a fan like that is horrible.
At the end of the day, they gave her two 30 dollar hats, a 25 dollar ball and a 200 dollar bat.
Now, did they they give her mlb logos to authenticate the items they gave her, or did they screw her out of that too?
