      @@junehodsdon8037 I'd rather they use marginally more water and work for twenty years than break after five. The environmental cost of producing a new washer and dryer and its components have more of a negative environmental impact.

      @@JulieKhuu Gladly, and I'm sure you're right on the manufacturer piece!
      They are by no means aesthetically pleasing, but we have the Amana Top-Load Washer and Dryer (less than $1,000 for the pair). Bought in 2013, super budget brand, no issues or complaints so far. We hang dry most of our clothing, so that really saves the dryer, electricity and our clothes!

    I was the recipient of an old set from a friend who was upgrading to a smart set. My laundry room is in my carport . I decorated and made it visually cute with baskets and faux greenery. I am thankful to no longer be going to public laundromats. I have an original antique wash board hanging on the wall, it's a real conversation starter. I could decorate an outhouse and make it cute if needed..Sometimes you have to play with the cards you are dealt. You always exceed my expectations..😀😀

My washer and dryer are in the garage, with the pantry (because my kitchen is very small), 3 bicycles for adults, a motorbike, the lawn mower and all equipment. And my garage is only 16 m² (170 square feet). I really struggle to organize this, I would like to add something to hang some clothes to dry, but I find no solution. For asthetics yes new washer and dryer but for durability no. Older models last forever. They are not hard to repair. My husband has changed gaskets and more and it works great amd saves money.

      @elizabethculp12 3 года назад +17

      I could not agree with this more. We are adding over 1000 sq ft to our home and could afford a new set. But my old ones work and can be fixed. New ones don’t last as long. From an environmental perspective throwing out a working appliance to buy a new more efficient one feels like it misses the whole point of trying to be environmentally friendly. When mine do eventually break I’ll be looking for durability and efficiency for long term environmental gains.

      You are right, once a coin got stuck in the front loader and we had to call a technician for that but when same thing happened in a top loader, we just had to take it out manually from the tub.. simple !

    • @lisamarielund6292
      @lisamarielund6292 2 года назад +2

      THIS! Front loaders smell awful! They smell like mildew no matter how much you clean them or leave the door open to air out after use. Top loaders look old and ugly but when the time comes to replace mine I’m going for an old fashioned top loader….if they still even make them.

    Great point on the tile flooring! ♥ Yesterday my sink stopped draining for some reason while machine was running, and suddenly I got a home upgrade in the form of an indoor pool :))))) If the floors were wood, like it was in my previous home, that would have been a nightmare. My washer and dryer are in the garage, with the boiler, the pantry and the freezer and the recycle bins (because my kitchen is very small and old), 3 bicycles for adults, a motorbike, the lawn mower and all equipment. And my garage is only 16 m² (170 square feet). I really struggle to organize this, I would like to add something to hang some clothes to dry, but I find no solution. Thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. It's both helpful and inspiring.
    I have lived with the mentioned drawbacks of a front loader for 18 years, so I strongly considered a top loader. Speed Queen looked like a great choice. Unfortunately, I couldn't reach all the way down to the bottom of the inside of the top loading washing machines. (At 5'6", I didn't considered myself to be short.) Disappointed...so it looks like we'll buy another front loader. Since they are deeper, I had trouble reaching to the back of the traditional front loader. I'm 74, so knee power is not what it once was. Either a 5" riser or a 15" riser should solve that, but it looks like we'll need to sacrifice having a counter in order to make either of those work. (We love our shelves and cupboards above that space.) sigh. Change can be stressful, even when it's good change. I will re-style the room, so in the end, it's all good. Function first. Body function, that is. 😊

  • @jeepdawg
    @jeepdawg 2 года назад

    Great video. Thanks so much! I'm about to start construction on a new laundry closet upstairs (7'' wide)! Got some great ideas. We have side by side machines because we refuse front loading washers. So, I'm looking at basically 2 extra feet to the sides of the machines to work with (and of course above the machines!) and figure out the best use of space. It's across the hall from a bathroom, so I don't think I'll need a slop or pretreat sink. We're going to put a murphy style folding table on the outside side wall of the closet, so folding space is taken care of. I'm thinking some form of dirty clothes containment, whether that's a pull-out lower cabinet that hides the hampers (one for towels, one for clothes!). Love the color choices in the video and keep up the great work!

    • @JulieKhuu
      @JulieKhuu  2 года назад

It will be “attached” to the kitchen thru a small hallway (about 3’ X 3’) and a pocket door with small windows on the door, I think. You say have some fun with the laundry room. Is it ok to do something totally different color wise in the laundry room if you’ll be able to see it through the kitchen or should they stay cohesive? Do you have any suggestions for an open floor plan kitchen with a top load washer and dryer? It's all in one and not a lot of square footage.

      My aunt grandaunt had a toilet in her laundryroom. It seems me weird. 🥵🥵 What do you think ??

    Any suggestions on where I can find washable rugs. Tried Ruggable but didn’t like the print or material

      Sorry I can’t help you for “washable” rugs. I’ve heard mixed reviews about Ruggable. If you need something you can hose down easily, try an outdoor rug indoors 👍🏻

    I’m looking for suggestions on stackable washer/dryer. I have a small area that is the pass through from the garage to the hallway. Would like something I can wash large blankets in (we use them on the boat... I end up going to the laundry mat)

      I hear LG is amazing and GE is a workhorse. Definitely do some research on the space you have and the stacking depths Jenee. Some are deeper than others, but of course can hold more laundry as a result.
