    Cannot wait to do mine. Exciting! Of course conspiracy theorists believe the "government" is using that data for future sinister purposes. lol. I sure hope not, because I need to know.
    My fiance who is a whole mix bag himself, said to me one day "you're not 100% black. Do you know that. I always figured, had already wanted to do this, but his comment peaked my interest even more. My kiddos are Irish, African American, German. Perhaps more! I love watching others learn their true dna - thanks for sharing ♡

      Oh and I have heard that conspiracy theory as well and I can not say I put it pass them! On that note it is possible to use a "fake name" although I'm sure that doesn't make much of a difference lol, I digress...
      Let us know of you find out your results and want to share. Whatever your composition is, it made you beautiful so it's a win. :)

      Jan J they are.. You are just gonna given tour DNA away to people you don't know and you have no idea what they do with it.
      I think tracing your family tree is important, but do you know that Google owns 23 and Me. A powerful company who we have already allowed access into our private lives intrusively now has people's DNA.
      I don't need the break down percetanges of shit. I can trace my family back pretty far and am fortunate that I can because a lot of us Black Americans can't, so I am happy with that. I am Black and that's all I care about. Don't give a shit about whatever else is there as I already know and it doesn't make me special.
      Be careful with those things.

    Um, Jamaica and Cuba are included in the Americas - but I suppose somebody else might have already pointed that out in the comment section. The Carib (bean) was owned by native Americans moving up from South America long before - like thousands and thousands of years before - the first Europeans arrived. Cute and clueless at the same time.

      @ipsilitti2 6 лет назад +4

      no-Jamaica is a British colony and was known as the British West Indies before they gained independence. Today Jamaica is known as a commonwealth of the UK.

    • @iancaldeian
      @iancaldeian 6 лет назад +6

      What are you responding to? All of the Americas (North - of which the Caribbean, United States, Canada and Mexico are a part - and South) were colonized by European conquers. The "West Indies" are part of the Caribbean and most of the islands were colonized by Europeans.Arawaks and Caribs are natives to South America and the Caribbean. The United States was also a British colony. It doesn't make these areas any less a part of the Americas. This is basic Geography.

    • @Ajm833
      @Ajm833 6 лет назад +4

      AtHomeWith Ccee Jamaica WAS a British colony! Before Jamaica WAS a British colony the natives used to live on the land as well as the rest of the Americas. And Jamaica is considered part of North America as well as the West Indies, British West Indies, and Caribbean.
      All of those former British West Indian islands are part of the Commonwealth. Also with the exception of Trinidad and Tobago, the Queen is still head of State. Trinidad is a Republic so is Guyana. Guyana is part of the Caribbean, not part of the West Indies. 😁

    Hey Josh - is your family from the Southern US? I got 1% West African in 23andMe. My family's roots stretch back through Virginia and the Deep South for 300+ years so I'm not really surprised. I think its pretty common among Southern whites.

    • @joshandmeg7418
      @joshandmeg7418  5 лет назад +4

      I am so very late... but I see what you mean, race is different from nationality. My mom is black (she does have a bit of mixture in race but mainly black). My dad is a bit more complicated I guess... Judging from my test he is mainly Southern European (white), he also has mixture in him so does not appear to be white either. Race is messy sometimes in the Caribbean. It is all love tho

    Yes, Native American is Indigenous (Taino) islanders of Xamaica (which was the original name). It could also be a factor from the Cuban Tainos ...both were radically depopulated after the Spanish conquest.
    I did my 23 and Me in 2016 , and did my mother and father as well...if you can I strongly suggest getting your parents tested....it allows a cross correlation of the dna to happen called phasing which makes the results over all even better for both you and your parents. It also allows you to know specific truths like this:
    1) I KNOW that my Ashkenazi Jewish .1% comes from my mothers X chromosome and not my father.
    2) I KNOW that my Taino , which is 1.4% total and the test actually pointed it to Ayiti (The DR) comes mostly from my mother (who was from the North of the island) rather than my father who is from the south.
    3) I KNOW that though my father and mother have North African trace...I have none.
    4) I KNOW that most of my African DNA (West African) comes from my mother.
    5) I KNOW that most of my European DNA 11.1% of a total of 19.9% comes from my Father.
    6) Both my parents have British, Iberian and North West European DNA this strongly suggest they have European ancestors that were from all three regions which is very unlikely outside of a pirate friendly location (in those regions you tended to have admixture only with the dominant European colonizer on that island) , making the pirate ancestry even more certain is the fact that both my parents derive from coastal towns and in fact my mothers town is just miles away from the coast that faces toward Tortuga ....what was literally a Pirate island in the age of Piracy! My father comes from a town 100 miles away on the opposite South facing coast...which also was very likely a Pirate town. Both places where Dutch, British/Irish and Spanish were likely roaming without flags and thus able to mingle with the African and Indigenous people.
    Since then I've learned a lot more about the motivations of piracy....the fact that many words from that age are from Taino words....for example, the Pirate term Buckaneer comes from the Taino/Kreyol word which means "Boucaner" to cook or char..this is in reference to cooking food on the beach in wait for European ships laden with stolen plunder from the Americas to go passed so that they could attempt to take them. Other words .... Barbeque , straight Taino. Hammock ....yet again. I'm still learning so much and it was thanks to getting the 23 and Me test for myself and my parents.
    Great video and thanks for sharing!

      @@joshandmeg7418 just curious. Cubans tend to be very European. Just look at some of the results on RUclips. Lebanon wouldn't be surprising either. The cartagineans originally came from Lebanon and they established colonies in Spain. Figured most of the African except North African would be from your mother since she is Jamaican. Afro-Caribbean people's tend to have higher African ancestry than African Americans.
