Ellie Gilliland I work with someone who did this about a year ago, he was adopted also, and even 50 years later he finally found out his. It even gave him names of possible relatives who took the dna test also. Anyway he actually reached out to them and has been getting to know his family
If you realised you were adopted when doing a video on sibling DNA test results that would be quite funny. I think that might be why it’s the title actually. 🤔
Actually, a recent law passed in Canada. Adopted children that wanted to know about their biological parent have to wait 2 years after their death to know their names. So if they already died, they can find their biological family and know more about their ancestry tree. The problem with that law 113 is that the children of an adopted person who has died can't access the documents. If the parent was doing research to find about their parents, the child can't continue it. So doing a DNA test is the solution for them. One woman was offer a DNA test by her husband and she found 117 family member!
Twins do not have identical DNA actually. And your sister doesn't look one bit Scandinavian. If she didn't bleach her hair she would look more like you.
Veronica Lidström Joannides fraternal twins each have their own DNA becomes they come from 2 separate eggs that have no relation, while identical twins share their DNA because they came from the same fertilized egg.
@@pseudonym5577 Sure, to a certain extent. "there are no restrictions on the use or release of de-identified data". Is de-identified actually de-identified, or just very close to it? Anyway, let's not even go down the road of potential hackers, theft or selling information. Instead let's talk briefly about the future visions of the company. Anyone interested in the subject can go read more in-depth version of this all. I'd love to believe that it's a company concerned with the wellbeing of humanity, but with a profit driven company, I have some doubts (and so should you). The potential to do good is overwhelming, which is also the case for ruthlessly exploiting information in order to gain money and power. There are a lot of "horror" scenarios that anyone could come up with, some more realistic than others. -Pair this company with a drugmaker - Well, that has sort of already happened. GSK has exclusive rights to the data. Which means they're going to have a head start making drugs, and can decide the pricing. They are also a major investor in 23andme. -Pair this company with the health care system, an insurance company, google etc etc - Too much to cover, but you can probably imagine where it could lead. -Etc etc Let's hope I'm just an alarmist.
I actually expected him to have some good amount Indian ancestry. Now that you point it out, Her eyes indeed look a bit Indian. It’s just her blonde hair confusing stuff..
I'll never understand why people are "proud" of something they literally had no control over. If there's anything in the world YOU personally have NO control over, it's your ancestry...
People aren't necessarily proud of their background so much as being a great example of the melding pot phenomenon, that or they are SJW fucks there doesn't seem to be much middle ground
These kits frustrate me so much. They usually come with a warning that say you should expect these tests to have 10% margin error. That's huge when you're dealing with DNA. The tests also don't have a large pool of people that they are testing from. They just randomly select anywhere from 5-100 people in a reagon and assume they're ancestry isn't from somewhere else. It's a guess. These don't tell you where you're dna is from they tell you who it shares likeness with locals in those areas. It's not the same thing. Any these companies know this. So people like my grandmother who is Native American end up with a ton of errors. In fact she has yet to get a test that had any results at all because of this problem. Oh and these companies like 23andme and Ancestry tried to pass off not refunding her even though nothing came back. I'm not saying it's completely wrong but you'll often see these people making videos and flipping out of .05% results because these companies pedal this tests like its and exact science... To me these companies just seem like they're dishonest and really nothing but a cash grab.
What you said on how they test is completely false. I can't remember the exact but you could just google it but to be eligible to have your Dna used as a sample they compare to, that person must provide proof that something (I can't remember exactly how far back it was) like their great great or great grandparents were born and raised in the country that they are claiming to be from and all generations including the person themselves are born and raised in that country. If a person can provide proof to all of that then their Dna is eligible to be used as a sample to compare.
I've been learning more about this topic and doing research here and there. Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective. Very interesting and valuable!
@@madjsyn no they don't actually. Having a full DNA database is quite expensive, not to mention there are tons of killers that never got caught because they couldn't match the DNA to anyone.
My siblings and I just bought one of these for my nana! She was adopted, and while she met her birth mother, her biological dad had passed away before she could meet him, so she doesn't know much about her genetic ancestry or health risks. Also, my husband's cousin found out they have an uncle using ancestry's DNA testing. No one knew about him, and he's in his 70s! Now we've all reconnected with him and his kids, and it was so cool
the problem with americans is the way of thinking.. "caucasian" = "white" or european = everyone has pale skin with coloured eyes.. this is not the case AT ALL. The fact that the guy has more european in him should not surprise u at ALL, italic, greek, iberian and balkan people usually look with little bit "tanned" skin. Ofc u can be pale with coloured eyes from those regions in europe as well but the most common look is deff tanned skin and light brown eyes with dark hair.
I think you two look pretty similar. Like I wouldn't automatically assume you're related, but I also wouldn't be at all surprised if you told me you were. I cannot comprehend how people would think she's related to Greg though; they look nothing alike.
@4:23 I really appreciate that Mitch did the segment about gene expression across siblings and its varieties. So many people get very confused about this and it can help then overcome some feelings after being tested.
I really wanna try 23&Me but some professors have said that it’s not necessarily safe to give your DNA sequence like that but I dunno if that’s actually true
Your professor is correct, these companies sell your results! This is known as the federal government let it slip that it had purchased access to such databases and are using them in criminal prosecutions. The case that brought it to light was the East Area Rapist, in which one such database was used to target a specific *family* because they matched close to the DNA taken from a rape site. Police then treated the whole family as suspect, collected DNA from all the members within and then matched these samples to the crime scene to narrow down exactly which one of the family members it was. While this can be seen as a 'noble use' of such databases, rape is a horrid crime, it highlights how easily Governments and Companies can acquire your whole families DNA from a single member using one of these services. So you pay for the kit, and freely hand over your genome for whatever purposes the buyer wishes....
Eduardo Ruiz they actually ask you if they’re allowed to keep your dna and do tests on it or if you’re not. All you have to do is press the NO button and theres nothing to worry about. Plus if you think about it, lets say they do take your dna. If you were born in a hosptial they already took it there, so theres really nothing to do about it
And maybe more informative but it's less reliable because they have a smaller Source than ancestry does. Because more people are known to go to ancestry then to get 23andMe. So I guess if you want a more accurate number you go to ancestry but if you want more information about certain things and what they mean and then use 23andMe.
Well not necessarily. Because you only get half of your parents DNA to make your DNA. So you can end up not even getting any of the same things that your brother gets. Like say what are your parents is white and the other parent is white black Asian Polynesian and Native American. And you have a little brother you happen to be white and black Asian Native American. While your brother ends up being white Polynesian Native American and Asian. Now it doesn't mean that they're not related it just means that they don't have the same ancestry. Because ancestry is passed down but you only get half of the ancestry from your parents. And just because your parents are from there you can say oh yeah my ancestors are from there but I actually don't have any of that DNA in me. So you don't have that in sestri but you can prove that they were from there.
Probably doesn’t mean anything like how accurate rly is this thing in terms of 0.02%. Maybe they suggest it to make people happy as they have more interesting ethnicities.
This reminds me of me. The way someone looks does not completely reflect their DNA. Because I have had people told me to my face that I just look white but I am 53% European and the rest is mainly African. So basically just stop judging people you guys. Everything is not what you see, and it doesn't matter anyways.
I'm always mistaken as being 100% "white" because of my fair skin. I haven't taken a dna test yet but my mother is a Hispanic mix and my father is caucasian. I most definitely have features not typical of the caucasian side of my family though. I have a wide bridge on my nose, wider nostrils, big hips and thighs, a shorter stature, very thick and coarse wavy hair, full lips, etc. The funny thing is that I'm even more pale than the full caucasians in my family. So much, in fact, they used to tease me about being a "ghost" or "glow in the dark". I wonder if I sucked a lot of Spaniard from the genes of my Hispanic mother or something.
People make assumptions about race all the time there's nothing really wrong with that. If you look at a white person you'd think they are white right? But then if they show their DNA has 40% of non white origin you just react with cool so you are mixed.
@@pokemasterx4244 There is nothing wrong with looking white except when people said it to me they were saying it in a condescending way. I mean, you usually don't walk up to someone and start dissecting their appearance unless there's some meaning behind it. It is not like I ever asked anyone what race I look like. People will just give opinions about how you look after they figure out what your actual ethnicity/race is.
Im Native American, I've got Mexican, English Irish Scottish Russian African and Jamaican heritage that is down the line a ways. I'm a typical looking Native American. I’m a fan of Kimberly’s channel and never seen this one before, but the second Mitch started talking I could tell they were siblings! to be honest, even Mitch’s mannerisms are SO similar!
You two are so funny and cute! (I am old so I can say that!) The animation was excellent in explaining the distribution of DNA between siblings. Thanks!
That DNA gene interpretation was really good, people ask me about that when I talk about my DNA tests and I’m going to start sending them this video for reference lol.
I took a dna test with my brother. We’re both American indigenous on our dads side but he’s dark and I’m light. My great-grandma was full native of Cherokee and Ottawa, however when my brother took the test it shows he’s American indigenous and I have 0%, even though I know my tribal affiliations. This was really surprising because we share half our dna.
I am afraid your father isn't your biological father which is why you don't have it because you would have both inherited it from him. That dna doesn't just go away on itself.
Also basic xy. Kim got an x from her mom(that could be either from Kims grandma or grandpa on mother’s side)and an x from her dad (which is from his mother). Mitch’s x comes from the same source as Kim’s x but the y is passed exclusively down the male side. This is why brothers and sisters may look so different.
At 8:10 it is said that identical twins share 100% of their DNA. This statement is actually incorrect as identical twins DNA does have a small variant between person and they share about 98-99% of their DNA. The same goes for any identical, multiple fetus pregnancy
You are forgetting the father's Y which came from his father could have no trace of African ancestry and X which from his mother could carry African ancestry therefore your taking the Y from your father would leave you without, and your sister's XX would give the maternal side of your father's information which you can't carry.
This is so beautiful. My brother and I look different as well. My dad told me stories of What his father might of been Spanish or European Caucasian. We're both born in Mexico so it'd be shocking to find some British or German in our DNA
Skin tone results from a combination of genes(polygenic inheritance). For example a person with a genotype of aabbcc would have the lightest skin tone since don’t have any uppercase letters in their genotype. But, for a person of AaBbCc would have a mixed skin tone since they have a mix of the two skin tones. So if a person with AAbbcc and a person with aaBbCc would have the same skin tone even thought their genotypes differ. A person who is parents are black(AABBCC) and white(aabbcc) would make a child who is in the mid tone skin colour(AbBbCc). But if the child(AaBbCc) has children with someone who has a genotype of a AaBbCc then the possible offspring could be 25% full white,50% mid, and 25% black. This illustrates that not everything is cut clean skin colour is a result of which genes you got from your parents one child could have gotten this gene while another could have gotten something completely different.
Finally someone taking the time to explain how genetics work .. I have seen so many people do these, with zero research beforehand, and it frustrates the hell out of me 🙌🏻🙏🏻
As a genetic molecular biologist I can say the inaccuracy of these systems is horrendous. And please please please be careful where you send your DNA samples or any of your genetic material, stay safe!
The gene breakdown appears to be: 5/8 white (British), 1/2 South Asian (Indian) and 1/8 East Asian (Chinese?). If their dad is white, this means their mom must be 1/2 Indian, 1/4 white, and 1/4 East Asian.
In your cases, your DNA comes from everywhere making you diverse. In our case, we have 7 siblings, 4 boys & 3 girls. Of the 4 boys, 2 of us look similar having dark brown hair & native American bronze skin but my little brother has blue eyes and mine are light brown. All 3 of our sisters look a little different but everyone can tell they are sisters. One has dark brown hair, one has reddish brown hair & the eldest sister has light brown hair. Our mother is Native American and a little Irish & our dad was half Native American & half Scandinavian but we're not sure which of the 3 Scandinavian countries his mother was from. All 7 of us have the same mother and father. It's truly is amazing how our genetic make up is different in each of us siblings.
I'm Hungarian and thinking about doing this. My mum is really into doing the family tree, and my parents are 3rd cousins, so it would be very interesting. It's just that for an Eastern European it's very expensive.
I'm fascinated by the reactions in these DNA test results videos. I'm puzzled and shocked by people's puzzle and shock. I can't think of any result that would surprise me (if I had any interest in knowing).
Lmao if ur siblings you have the exact same ancestry, what 23andme shows you in your genetic makeup and what you’ve inherited from the gene pool, but you both have the same people and ethnicities in your ancestry
Correction: the ability of singing in pitch isn’t perfect pitch. Perfect pitch is the ability to identify and or sing a specific pitch by memory (not really memory but that’s a hell of a topic)

All humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, so 23 from mom and 23 from dad, total 46 chromosomes, and the pairs are numbered chromosome 1 through chromosome 23. Unless....there was a mutation on one of the numbered chromosomes, then it's possible to have an addition or deletion in chromosomes. For example, those with Down's Syndrome have one extra chromosome on chromosome #21. It should be noted that not all mutations are bad or even show up in our outward appearance, or regarding illness. It just means you have the propensoty to show the mutatiin that is in your DNA; it's still there but it may not show up/show symptoms. Plus, as the video stated there are many, combinations of possible genes for each chromosome, which is why we all look different, to put it simply. It's a very cool, complex system. Research Meiosis. Better yet, take a general biology course. You will learn all the intracasies of DNA and genetics. Cheers!

Lamb Of Demyelination Hello, I work with the company, and it’s part of my job to keep your data safe. If you choose to opt out of research, we will not use your data for anything. However, most people do choose for their DNA to be used for research. If you choose to have your DNA used, we are very careful to make sure that it cannot be traced back to you. All the data we use/give to third parties is aggregated. We are only giving away averages, for instance, we might say that many people with East Asian ancestry have a gene that makes them less likely to get skin cancer. 23andme has done a very poor job of letting the public know about how we use their data, and we are currently trying to find ways to remedy this.

Twins do not have identical DNA actually. And your sister doesn't look one bit Scandinavian. If she didn't bleach her hair she would look more like you.
@Sa Ms Veronika is most likely talking about features, yes she doesn't look scandi at all. its just folk are trying to compliment her.
If they’re monozygotic then they certainly start off with identical DNA and will show up on a DNA test as sharing 100% DNA
Identical twins have 100% DNA that’s why they have the same fingerprint, google it.
Veronica Lidström Joannides fraternal twins each have their own DNA becomes they come from 2 separate eggs that have no relation, while identical twins share their DNA because they came from the same fertilized egg.
Christopher Chammas identical twins don’t have the same fingerprints. They do share 100% of their DNA tho

@@nancyp.9512 reading is fundamental ps. don't like your own comment
Also if your ok with sharing it I'm curious to hear what the dna tests said your grandmother was.
I've been learning more about this topic and doing research here and there. Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective. Very interesting and valuable!

the problem with americans is the way of thinking.. "caucasian" = "white" or european = everyone has pale skin with coloured eyes.. this is not the case AT ALL. The fact that the guy has more european in him should not surprise u at ALL, italic, greek, iberian and balkan people usually look with little bit "tanned" skin. I really wanna try 23&Me but some professors have said that it’s not necessarily safe to give your DNA sequence like that but I dunno if that’s actually true
Eduardo Ruiz don‘t do it, you‘re giving away what makes you, you!
Jinx Dragon No...unless it’s the gov it’s technically illegal to sell personal info
Eduardo Ruiz they actually ask you if they’re allowed to keep your dna and do tests on it or if you’re not. All you have to do is press the NO button and theres nothing to worry about. Plus if you think about it, lets say they do take your dna. If you were born in a hosptial they already took it there, so theres really nothing to do about it
BookMilla Just because you said no doesn’t mean it can’t be used it’s just not very likely...
This 23andme was wayyy more informative than any I've seen thus far. Because duh asapscience. Its left me with a definitely clearer picture
And maybe more informative but it's less reliable because they have a smaller Source than ancestry does. Because more people are known to go to ancestry then to get 23andMe. So I guess if you want a more accurate number you go to ancestry but if you want more information about certain things and what they mean and then use 23andMe.
You have the same ancestry as long as you have the same parents, even if your dna doesnt show it.
Uhmuhh watch the video and try to understand how it works before commenting false information.

Everything is not what you see, and it doesn't matter anyways.
@@peculiarthings I guess you're right!!! But I'm rather pale, and my facial features are not too distinctive so I see where they are coming from.
I mean what's wrong with looking white?
People make assumptions about race all the time there's nothing really wrong with that. If you look at a white person you'd think they are white right? But then if they show their DNA has 40% of non white origin you just react with cool so you are mixed.
@@pokemasterx4244 There is nothing wrong with looking white except when people said it to me they were saying it in a condescending way. I mean, you usually don't walk up to someone and start dissecting their appearance unless there's some meaning behind it. It is not like I ever asked anyone what race I look like.

Did you assume the number of chromosomes???
Cheers!

Hello, I work with the company, and it’s part of my job to keep your data safe.
