Freddie knows exactly how that Irish and British got into her blood. She got so sad when she learned wt time period it entered her blood line.
white people now have the upper hand in the world, i have no worries that im going to be denied a service for being white or that i will be racially profiled because of my skin tone. people of colour (especially black people and especially in america) are still oppressed and marginalized, and white people are the reason for this. they can be upset about a terrible event that still shapes their lives today if they want to be, they have plenty reason to be.
Yeah when I saw that I was like...eek
Kaya Dials Doubt somehow it was an Irish person, seeing as the Irish were indentured servants. More likely British.
eimear w actually there were Irish Slave holders. The last indentured servents were released years before that entered her blood line.
random stuff that comment makes little sense. She is sad, because her female ancestor might have been raped and she might be product of slavery and someone's suffering. But you're saying:"oh don't be a crybaby. Someone else's white grandma had been raped too . Doesn't it make everything better?" No, it doesn't.
I really wanna do this but these tests usually cost a lot of money :(
Helena K. How much do they really cost??
The ancestry test is $100. I know that $100 can be 'a lot of money' for some people. So I'm not questioning that. Just providing the cost information, in case it isn't as much as you expected.
It's actually on sale for $69!!!!

I feel for Freddie, her entire ancestry is a history textbook for slavery, she has west African genetics, which in slave trade era was primarily the spot where Europeans would pick up the slaves (due to the ports) and her European % is because somewhere along her family's history, the family member who was a slave was most likely raped by her owner 😞, I can understand her disappointment, all the other girls are happy at the surprise of their genetic make up while Freddie's is the reality of black Americans. 😣❤️
NotMe mad fomo. whenever anyone makes a comment about black people in particular, someone just can't help themselves from making it generic and saying "hmmmm, no. EVERYONE."
NotMe Not everyone was held as sex slaves like many African American women were during slavery. Not everyone continues to be affected by legacy of the atrocities endured by their ancestors, like African Americans do.
Morindou she should be anything but sad at least you got to grow up in America
Why tf are you sad about something that happened 170 years ago, when right now North African Arabs still have African slave trades.
@Cathy M ....Are you really trying to tell people they shouldn't be pissed off because of racist slavers and rapists? Nobody should have to justify that for any reason, or feel "grateful" for it. You really need to check your priorities and the way you treat black history.
10:10 Freddie looks so sad! I just want to reach into the screen and give her a hug!
eshal iqbal ツ I’m just confused how it says “British and Irish” like which one is it? Those are 2 totally different things. British people owned slaves where as in Irish couldn’t own slaves

Freddie's face at 10:10 breaks my heart and is why I am so hesitant to take one of these tests. She kept a brave face, but must have felt the same way when studying history in school and realizing on what part of that history she fell (I know I felt horrible, especially because my mom's side of the family is significantly lighter in skin tone than my father's even though they are from the exact same place and can only tell of ancestors that were born and raised on that exact island). A very eyeopening video. I might still get one of these tests done.

Richa Gill 99.9% northern european, 0.1% southern european

Freddie's results were upsetting, but honestly Kristin's made me concerned too. Her mother was adopted and there's Native American heritage there... even though I only know a little bit about the history of native children being taken from their families, I still found that, Idk, full of sad possibilities I guess. 😕
I know, it's horrible. My bio grandfather was taken from his family and forced to pretend he was Dutch because he was a lighter toned Native American.
her percentage is high and i truly believe that there is a difference be´tween oo I took this test and have some native in me and my mother was adopted and I truly know
I think Kristin's mom who was adopted might have been Mexican or part Mexican due to the native american percentage and Iberian numbers.
@@louismestas3677 oh, good point
Or might just be latino. Kristin has no idea of her origins so it's hard to speculate.
Lady: "you are 24.2% European"
Kristen: "should I get you some mayonnaise Freddie?"
I Like Bichons hahaha
Dejuh Vuh apparently white people love mayonnaise 😂
But why was she so dissapointed to be partly european? Like she really didn't want to be "white"..?
She said her great great great grandmother was a slave. Since the test showed that the European dna was introduced in the 1800s, it's likely that her grandmother was raped and had a child
beingWantable she was disappointed because if you look at the dates and compare to slavery dates

That 24% if European in Freddie. Dang. And the timezone in which it came about. Double dang.
Exactly, and you have folks on here blabbing about "if the white girls had African ancestry yadda yadda" like there isn't history behind why some Black people may not necessary jump for joy at the European ancestry in their family line.
Yeah honestly anyone who descends from a most likely interracial couple more than a few generations back, whether they're white with a little bit of African ancestry or black with a little bit of European ancestry, that bit of DNA probably got into their genes through some unpleasant means.
Laura Gill no it wouldn't. interracial couples have existed in Europe for thousands of years. The Roman empire spanned 3 continents and was pluralistic, open and multiethnic. interracial marriage occurred frequently over the course of thousands of years as race laws didn't exist. Its the same story in North Africa and Western Asia too.
Alter Ego yes Freddie's ancestors probably were raped. its not "for a minority in a minority" most North Africans and most Middle Easterners have some white European ancestry as a result of the Ottoman Empire, the Roman Empire and the Islamic Caliphates each lasting for centuries, spanning three continents, and each being multiethnic with open borders. Interracial relationships were extremely common.
Exactly.

"We've based videos on the fact that I'm Italian!" 😂😂😂 OH HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU KRISTEN ♥️♥️
Annabelle Valpey the sad thing is in those videos none of the Italian viewers believed her. They were like "liking pasta doesn't make you Italian".
Annabelle Valpey what are the titles of the video?
When I was a kid I was “Miss Irish America” for a Cultures day at my church. I took an Ancestry DNA test a couple years ago and I’m only 1-3% Irish.
Another thing to keep in mind, is that tests like these only report what cultures match the genes you have inherited. We only inherit 50% of our parents’ DNA. Kristen could have Italian ancestors, but those genes simply weren’t passed down to her.
If Freddie knows one of her female ancestors was a slave and the Irish comes in at that time..I think she was right when she said we can fill in the blanks. Heartbreaking to think about what must've happened to her great-great-great grandmother.
historically it's more likely british than irish but those two are grouped together in ancestry tests
Kristina Oberlander That is a highly unlikely possibility- like 99.999% unlikely. As much we'd like to sanitise history and not have to hear distressing accounts of what happened in the past, we've got to confront it for what it is.
unlikely seeing that the irish were not slaves, rather indentured servants. still not a good thing but indentured servants were legally human and had rights, whereas slaves were seen as subhuman objects. it was seen as taboo to treat an indentured servant like a slave because the servants held the title of 'human', therefore making your theory nearly impossible.

I can't wait until I have some money to do this. My brother is interested, too (which gets us a bit more info, on the paternal side). Our paternal grandmother was adopted at a time when children were often adopted as free labour, not so much because someone wanted to be a loving parent to them. So she was quite disconnected from her roots. She claimed half Ukrainian, half Scottish (very typical of the Canadian prairies), but we've seen with these tests how wrong relatives' claims can be.
On my mom's side, my grandfather was probably 100% Dutch. He was from a less populated area, a village near Groningen (northern province). My grandmother, we suspect she is mixed with some other ancestry, possibly Spanish or Indonesian (yay, colonialism). She and most of her many sisters had dark hair and pale, olive complexions. She was also from the city, Rotterdam, so an urban area where there's more variety in ethnicity.
I just like imagining the history of the people I come from, so it would be nice to know.

Damn Freddie :( That whole bit was kind of sad... I'm glad they kept that clip about when Euro DNA came into the picture...important for people to realize what lasting effects slavery has on black people in so many ways.
I know right! I was saddened by it because it shows that part of her heritage was fully African around the 1800s meaning that one of her Black ancestors (probably women) was raped, or had some type of relationship with his/her master. Maybe I'm overthinking it but Black people didn't have it so well in the 1800s and I don't think a relationship between a Black individual and a European individual came about all hunky dory.
It's really sad :(
Well, while it's probably likely it was rape, there's no way to know for sure. There were a lot of black mistresses at the time, and I'd say 1/10 slave owners weren't super abusive. Some even had friendly relations with their slaves, and affairs. While it doens't make slavery okay AT ALL, I just wanted to point out that not all slaves were miserable all the time. There's a mild/decent chance that Freddie's ancestor was a lovechild. (says the optimist in me lol)
Yes!! They try to take certain history out of textbooks but when you actually realize that it happens to you ancestor it more devasting. Like blacks in the USA know about slavery but a lot don't realize it happened to their ancestor. Which is messed up!! Like even if it people you don't know most Black Americans can't trace where they come from. Compared to African- Americans who can trace their ancestor history and bloodline.
I'm 10, so I'm not too good with geographical stuff, I AM CONFUSION XD can someone explain?
For anyone wondering Kristin has since done some exploring and recently shared on Twitter that she and her mum are reconnecting with their native heritage and that they were able to figure out her mums backstory.
What … She only got 0.9 percent, that’s Literally not even one percent, that’s less. she’s not even that much
@@raventate0112 no, she has like 13% Native ancestry. There's a video about her going into more detail about it and how her results have increased since then. So I think she identifies as part Native American now, which is cool because that was a huge part of her ancestry that was missing.
@@JoyfullyShea-Marcella OH- I thought you were talking about the black girl who got 0.9 percent, by the way what’s Kristen’s RUclips channel?
@raventate0112 kristen shares a channel called kitchen and jorn i believe. the video where she discusses her indigenious heritage is from about a year ago
I can’t be the only one who got slightly sad when they showed the timeline and when a 100% white person was introduced into it. Matches up with her grandmother whom was a slave, makes me sad thinking of what probably happened to her to bring that DNA into the fold.
Let's just assume they fall in love ..but... reality is sad..
I viewed it the other way. Her ancestors were white, then a 100% black person was introduced and her African ancestry continued from there. Time lines work that way.
Magik Makeup actually , ancestry goes back to the first human , so technically her african ancestry goes way back with her european ancestry
@@parisraquel1140 they didn't go back that far... Read the time line the lady held up...
Magik Makeup yeah but still , they meant FULL west african ancestor , as in someone straight from west africa , no mixture of nothing
We think of slavery as something that happened a long time ago, something that is distant. But. Here it is. When you're taught in history class about the trade triangle between the continents you are never taught about it in the full gravity that people were taken. Lives were stolen. People were raped. The reality of slavery in the US is never really given the gravity it deserves when we are taught about it. And that is evident so much here. What Freddie knew of her background was minimal because of what others did to her ancestors. Most African Americans do not have the knowledge of their own history that people like me do. And. I don't know. It just makes me so sad. I don't feel like there has ever been a formal acknowledgement of what we did to those people so long ago. We have not given them a chance to grieve.
we wow !
Anna Schanus and even when she paid for the info she still didn't get it. Okay she's from west Africa. Do people know how large west Africa is? All African Americans are from west Africa! It pissed me off that she still didn't get much info.
Clorox Bleach Crystals First of all of you’re going to comment on another persons history please have your facts right. Africans back then did not see themselves as the same people Cultural, Ethnically, Religiously and they were from different tribes so no they did not see themselves as all the same that idea came from you people. The whole idea “of blackness” wasn’t a thing for them just because they were from the same continent did not make them the same so saying they sold “each other” or “Africans sold other Africans” is an ignorant statement. And also you can’t tell a group of people that they can’t grieved their ancestors and family members because it did not happen to them. Slavery wasn’t just for a few months it was for Over 300-400 YEARS! So the trauma they went through has been passed down through generations after generations. Even after slavery black People were still oppressed and put down by you people with your Jim Crow laws and Police brutality. So we never really got a chance to grieve! And lastly grieving doesn’t have nothing to do with something happening to “you” specifically. If your grandmother got raped and beat wouldn’t you grieve ?
Clorox Bleach Crystals Everything you are saying is incorrect and I can tell you don’t do much reading or research. The way you speak is very ignorant and as if you know it all. So like I SAID before commenting on someone else’s history know your facts... and I’ve never met the 17 people who’ve been shot and killed down in Florida but yes i do grieve for them. Goodbye

Came back to this video after watching Kristin on Gianmarco’s podcast. It’s nice to see how far she’s come talking about her heritage.
i thought that it was pretty cool finding out that freddy is mixed and haseuropean dna until i remembered that she said her ancestor was a slave and that the fully european ancestor came about in the 18th century :/ not so cool anymore...
It is possible that the fully European ancestor was consensual (as much as a slave can consent). Possibly a sneaky woman who had a cold husband and found love with a slave then hid the pregnancy.

It's hard to compare these relationships with modern rapes, "exploitation" would probably be the better word, IMHO. Rich and powerful males slept with their young female subordinates and slaves since the beginning of the Neolithic Age, the pressure was usually more psychological than physical. .

Jhullianna probably has a hard time at Starbucks...
ok the reason y freddy was disappointed was because of the certain time she got her european ancestry. with her family from virginia and all. she knows something horrible probably went down.
Horrible things have happened to everybody's ancestors. If a white person was disappointed to find out they were 24% black, people would lose their shit.
U are right, but at the time it was common so the chances are pretty high.
Being a slave that was kept in her quarters, unfreed, while her master, in this power dynamic, had children with her was not a consensual relationship. Sally Hemings was considered Jefferson’s property and their children were products of rape.
Like sally hemmings was raped, there wasn't anything consensual about it
Also it was British and IRISH. The Irish were also kept as indentured slaves. So it was not necessarily the colonial master raping his slave.
watching Freddie learn about what time period her british and irish genetics entered her blood was so heartbreaking to watch, as it most likely was from intrusion. she's a very strong woman to handle that so well. these DNA video's are amazing though! i'd love to see more of them.
The timeline showed that the british and irish genetics entered after 1870. The Civil War ended in 1865. So no "intrusion" occurred.
They do not have the ability to pinpoint your DNA timeline within just a few years. The overview shows a range. There is going to be a lot of overlap. No one can say with any certainty that her European genetics entered after 1870 and not before 1865. That's only a 5 year difference and it's really just a sophisticated guess. We just don't have the technology to make that distinction at this point. I doubt we ever will.

@@sapphireblue222 so love, here's the thing just because slavery officially was outlawed doesn't mean it ended. There's a doc on vice about a family that was held hostage, enslaved till the late 60s before they were even told they were Free

I feel like many people forget that coming from Mexico or any other Latin American country is not a race, it's a nationality. Latinx is also a culture, not a race. You can be black and be latinx, you can be white and be latinx, you can be mestizo and be latinx etc. those that are mestizo will most likely have Native American (Maya, inca, mexica/Aztec) ancestry.
Aradia amen
so you say Latinx, but not mestizx?? Hypocritx
Miri M she probably doesn't know why the x in latino is used. english speaking people should just stay with latin or go the other route and say latino for men and latina for women. latinx = gender neutral.
Aradia what does the x signify asking for a friend
Aradia from all the information you will probably have European because Spain did come in Mexico and that's why there are some light skin Mexicans!!
So some people might be wondering why some of their DNA is from Ireland/Britain is because of the famine in Ireland . A lot of people emigrated to America/Canada!

I always find Black people's ancestry very interesting probably because being black (both parents born and raised in Nigeria moved to Ireland and had me) I never really thought anything of ancestry (I'm just Nigerian) but the possibility I could have something else in me. I know Freddie's African- American though so idk if I could relate
about the Freddie thing her feelings don't need to be validated but remember everything in history (horrible or not) has led to all of us being here right now.
Inequalities still exist as a result (racism, sexism) but I am grateful to be here.
Ps I'm not telling you how to feel. I am not African American so I wouldn't know the pain and hurt it must cause realising you ancestry. My heart goes out to you all
Kiani Davidson I think you read to much into their statement
Kiani Davidson I disagree I don't think they were trying to say that the things that happened weren't awful or hurt but just that because of them we are where we are now making advances now and learning (or at least trying to) how to do better then our ancestors have before us.
Im in the same boat as you! My parents are Nigerian and moved to Ireland and had me. I really want to take the test, but it's expensive lol.
Kiani Davidson Oh no I would never invalidate someone's experiences or suffering, being black you do experience everyday racism but I know it's nothing compared to what people's ancestors have experienced (and in modern day). I only meant how we cant really do anything but move forward while acknowledging the past. I just feel that events in history has led to every person here reading this comment. Quite fascinating but not meant to be that deep x

gamer,youtube and wattpad girl kioo
Evy Kramer in my opinion you can't be 100% from a country. You cant deny histority
I love Wattpad by the way
I really like these types of videos, but it always frustrates me that people don't seem to understand how migration works (maybe it's more of a failure of how history is taught, especially in regards to non-european history and pre-renaissance european history). Of course someone with ancestry in the British Isles is also going to have Scandinavian and French/German ancestry; Anglo-Saxons, Normans, and Vikings have a significant history of exchange. It also makes sense that Freddy's ancestry is largely West African, since it was primarily West Africa that was involved in (and targeted for) the slave trade.
I'm from the UK and my ancestry is pretty much entirely native to mainland Britain - so actually you CAN still have relatively pure DNA results, despite all the migration (and invasions) that went on. My surprise was finding the tiny, tiny percent that was Eastern European and that there wasn't MORE from Scandinavia or Northern Europe, considering there are "English" people in my history. but yeah, I think a lot of people fail to understand how the human race spread across this planet.
I have seen a couple of other videos and I agree, people don't seem to understand history and genetics.
Just Another Bucky Lover yeah I’m 70% british isles, if I was to guess I’d be like half Irish half Anglo most likely, and I’m part French and German and Nordic for the rest so really shows my ancestors mixed with invaders a bit too.
Very very interesting to learn about your ancestry
Plus the interior African tribes sold slaves captured from other African tribes to the Europeans who had um 'factories' on the West African coast.
And for the Europeans the Vikings had white slaves which they primarily sold in British markets
Also the story of St. Patrick is that he was a slave who was born a Celt and converted to Christianity.
My dad (who was adopted) did a 23 and me test and found his biological mom! I have a grandma i never knew i had!
What's scary about spending money on it is you could get the results and be 100% from one place. Like I could figure that out myself 😂😂
Tatiana Blue ive only seen one person be 100% one thing (Irish) from doing one of these tests, Irish people take a DNA test
I'm pretty sure that would happen to me if I did the test so it would kinda be waste of money ^^;

Almost all of my family in Mexico has blue eyes and blonde hair (nobody believes me when I tell them this because of stereotypes) and I think it would be really cool to know where we're from. The area of Mexico where we're from is mostly white-looking people but we don't know much beyond that.
are you from north mexico or jalisco? I know there are alot more white mexicans in northern mexico because a lot of german immigration in the 19th century. while jalisco had more spanish and french immigration.
AngelicOblivion90 yeah, we're from the area of Los Altos, Jalisco. We guess that it's French cause other people from the area say that they're French but we're not sure. But we do know that one of my grandparents immigrated to Mexico from Italy but he had brown eyes and hair. So the blue eyes blonde hair is a mystery.
Eliza h. Also French people also invaded and stayed in Northern Mexico like Villa de Santiago.
cool, my family is from michoacan but close to the border with jalisco. so in the same family we have lots of different shades of skin tones and eye colors.
I hate stereotypes. Mexican isn't a race! You can be blonde and have colored eyes. Don't listen to the silly people who don't believe you. I'm Mexican as well and my grandma is from michoacan and she is white as heck.
I think what Kristen said was true that people shouldn't really claim a heritage such as Native American when they have such little of it in their DNA. My great grandmother walked the trail of tears when she was a little girl so it affected my family an I actually have a claim to it.
or they have enough like kristin, but were not brought up that way
You are claiming Native American because an ancestor walked the Trail? That proves nothing. At least those with a small percentage of DNA have actual proof.
@Psycho Stormy shut up
It's not about claiming, I think it's about recognising that "americans" are not a single european race, but a mix of roots they should not forget, as You once did
Wait...So if you had children with a non-native American then in a few generations your family couldn't claim their native American ancestors? Huh??
If freddies great great great nan was a slave and was 100% African and suddenly English and Irish comes along that's so sad and evil to see as you can just know that she was forced into childbirth :(
maybe , but not 100 % sure ...
Irish weren't owning slaves -- mostly because the Irish weren't considered white until WWI
RileyGRis the Irish did own slaves tf????? It’s the reason so many black people have Irish last names because slave owners used to make slaves take their last names
irish and german kids used to be slaves. slave owners were mostly British and Spanish
iBarkBite Irish people weren't even considered to be white. They couldn't be wealthy land owners, so what you're saying is impossible.
I took this DNA test and found out I'm like 95% Finnish, beat that lmao
Hanna Katriina how much did it cost you?

She suspected to see Mayan or something, yet acted blind sighted when it said Native American?
Mythical Slytherin yeah, it seems a little vague. They should mention which tribe somewhat.
Paputsza that's a little harder to find seeing as most tribes have died out.
There are still many indigenous tribes but I don't think they have them as customers. 😁
What I got from that part was that she wasn't expecting it to be as big of a percentage as it was. Just like with Christine.
It's hard for them to distinguish tribes because not many Native American people are left and fewer provide genetic samples. I got over 26% Native American but I know nothing about the tribe other than a wild guess they came from the Zacatecas area of Mexico because that's where my family is from. I also have Native American ancestry on my European side that I was able to trace back to the Sioux tribe.
Even though Kristin is only 7.5% Italian she still is understanding of the culture which makes it ok to make the videos about her being Italian
Freddie has every right to be sad guys
