  • First video filmed when I came back to the USA! -- Today I have a special guest on my channel... my Grandmother!! With her help, we find out my DNA results... and they were pretty shocking!
Family Background: My Grandmother immigrated to the USA from Colombia, South America when she was 14. This is my mother's mother. My Dad, on the other hand, is from Puerto Rico.
    WATCH VIDEO BEFORE YOU READ:
Also, I know a lot of people might say 'okay well everyone has a little African in them'. I think this is true for the most part, but if you are considered heavily Northern European, you would only have about 0.5% or less of African ancestry. Another cool thing to note is that my Nigerian DNA is from only 4-5 generations ago! I was shocked.
Yes, I am over 80% European but a little over 50% is Spanish (added up) and a sprinkle of Italian. I also have 10% Indigenous American which includes Colombia and Puerto Rico (the locations of my most recent ancestry). I was also happy to see that I had Irish DNA, it is one of my favorite places I have visited. Okay I'm done explaining lol, enjoy the video!!!

I don't think it's an even 50-50 because some kids look more like one side or the other. Probably depends on the blend for each child. I guess that's why siblings look similar, and some can look very alike, whereas others look quite different.
The basic science of ancestry and gene selection we learn in school up to 16 years isn't quite how genetics really is.
This video has made me curious. And isn't it strange just how much of a difference there is between her and her grandmother. Which I suppose makes sense considering that her grandmother would be around a quarter of her genetics.

Just discovered this video and your channel and this video is really cute! You and your grandma!
I took the myheritage test about 4 years ago and considered taking the 23andme test ever since, but haven’t yet. But it’s much more detailed. Pretty sure neither of them is 100% accurate (esp. regarding the percentages), but still I think you always learn a lot, either about your heritage, and if the test’s more detailed than even about other stuff affected by dna. (I’m just not sure if I want to learn about diseases and/or “gene defects” that either I might be more susceptible to or that I might carry in my genes. 😳 I know it can sometimes be helpful to know, but rather be scary and make you worry more. But other than that, there’s a lot of stuff one can learn about themselves and find explanations for things they noticed but didn’t know the reasons for (in your case, the chewing thing and the cilantro-tastes-like-soap-thing and the holding-on-to-stuff-thing (which I might have as well 😜)).
+ your grandma’s lesson is so beautiful and important, to always keep in mind. 😍

Your features probably comes from your Spanish ancestry because I saw it say that it’s from Asturias, España 🇪🇸 which is in the north. And blonde or reddish hair is more common in northern Spain 🇪🇸 because the Spaniards of northern Spain are of Celtic descent. Celtics of Ireland originated from Northern Spain many years ago. My Galician side are all blonde and blue/green eyed.

Spaniards are celtiberians. Most part have Brown hair (from Light Brown to almost Black hair). Some spaniards have blond hair (same proportion in north and south, only I think there are more red heads in Galicia), but they are a minority as other nations in Southern Europe. You can only find lots of blondes in Scandinavia (not all the people). All Europeans usually have Brown hair.

Just remember that genes are distributed at random. Having more or less of a certain genome doesn't mean you are more or less that part of your ancestry. So, you're not "more Spanish" than your grandma, you just got more of the Spanish gene passed to you from your parents than she did from hers, but you still have the same amount of Spanish ancestry. We each inherit 50% of our genes from each parent, not 100%. 😇

My results are similar to yours. My mom is just white and my dad is Hispanic. As many of us know, Hispanic is not a race. A lot of Hispanics (NOT ALL) are European (Spanish) and Indigenous American. I knew I was gonna get mostly European and a chunk of Indigenous in my results, but I was surprised to get only 20% Spanish/Portuguese. I thought I was gonna get at least 30%.
