  • We shaved our dreadlocks after we found out we got lice in Hawaii!
    www.getwiredandstoned.com/
    Prevent catching lice and other problems! We didn't have any of our dread products with us! :(
    Bringing you this video 1 year after shaving our dreadlocks in September of 2017. We loved having dreadlocks and all that it taught us and brought us, and were sad to lose them this way. We found it to be so ironic!
    Sometimes we think we may do them again in the future since they fit into our lifestyles so well. For now, we are enjoying the aftermath of the dread journey, and all that has taught us, too.
    You do NOT need to shave, cut, or brush out your dreadlocks if you get lice. You can treat it with lice shampoo several times (to kill the lice and eggs that can't be brushed out) and keep your dreads (as well as dead lice bodies inside) or, you can brush them out and proceed to treat the normal way with shampoo and combing out of eggs.
    We just had the lice for so long (3 months) that there were sooo many inside our dreadlocks. We had begun to feel disconnected to them throughout the unknown infestation, as well as feeling over-identified with them.
    It ended up being a huge blessing in the end. It helped us let go of a chapter of our lives and step into a new one.

    Just a tip for those struggling with lice, or for a quick tip for future reference.
    I had lice a few years back, I tried every medicine on the shelf, never worked!
    I found that the best thing to use is Vinegar!
    It stinks, and it took my breath away, but it killed all the lice (My sister gave me her lice, which stewed in her hair for weeks, or a month) within the first 2-3 washes.
    I leaned over the sink and had my mom pour it in my hair, and as she did I scrubbed through my hair. After that. A thick gel, hair gel whatever you have, leave it in your hair and it will suffocate remaining louse.
    (The hairdresser I asked said if you don't have Gel, use mayo. That stuff stinks, too though!)
    Thank me later!

    • @catherinewashere1
      @catherinewashere1 5 лет назад +6

      Kayotic Munkee Also MAYO. I can no longer stand the smell of mayo, but it sure suffocated all the lice when I was little.

      Oil (I would use coconut oil) suffocates lice while vinegar dissolves the “glue” that keeps the eggs attached to the hair. Also a preventative measure is to put some tea tree oil into your shampoo and conditioner because lice hate these kinds of essential oils.

    • @athenawindyy966

    When you have lice it's not only about shaving, you have to clean actually everything you own so that none can survive.
    And hey: It's just hair, it will grow back!

    • @sandrastrathmann8144
      @sandrastrathmann8144 2 года назад

      Nope.
      Die Läuse leben auf dem Wirt. Sie sind auf ihn angewiesen. Sie brauchen Wärme und Blut für Ihren gesamten Lebenszyklus. Läuse leben nicht in Kleidung, Kuscheltieren oder krabbeln wild in den Sachen des Wirts herum, sie halten sich nah am Körper auf.
      Nach dem rasieren brauchen die Haare aber noch eine weitere Behandlung mit einem Anti- Läuse Mittel und das auskämmen der Nissen. Dies muss ein weiteres Mal wiederholt werden 14-19 Tage nach der Erstbehandlung.
      Da dieses auskämmen jedoch mit locs nicht möglich ist, ist es bei einem schweren Befall die beste Wahl das Haar zu rasieren.

    I didn't have lice, but last year I started cutting my hair into a very short pixie, and it was nearly shaved.. I am not sure why, just needed a change, the desire to "start over" and see what was really there after years of dyeing it. I relate to how you say this strips the ego.. it sure does. It has been humbling, and cleansing, and a huge letting go of a past phase of "me". It has been growing back, and new beginnings come with it. Highly symbolic.

      Actually it's pretty uncommon to find that people are infected with lice via clothing items like hats and scarves as well as combs and other personal grooming tools, you're much more likely to be infected from direct contact to another humans hair. Head lice have feet adaptad to hold onto human hair specifically so they have trouble with holding onto other surfaces like hats and combs, nits (eggs) die withing a week after being separated from their human host and nymphs (live babies) die within a few hours of birth not fed. While it is a risk it's really not as big of one as people think it is.

    I loved my dreadlocks with all of my heart but after they were gone, I felt a new freedom. A freedom that wasn't there before I got dreads. It's a feeling that is definitely hard to explain but it felt great and sad all at the same time. I grew my hair out for 9 years without one snip and then all at once, it was gone. I can relate to many of the feelings you displayed during this video and I will always miss my dreads but I'm better off without them. Now that my family and I are moving into a 40 foot school bus conversion to document us traveling the world I almost wish I had my dreads which to me represented freedom to do whatever I wanted when I got them.. but nah, I like dreadless me. God you made me cry! But Hawaii has a way of healing the soul in ways we can't understand at the moment it happens! Women and our hair. Once it's gone we are faced with confronting who we are inside. So proud of you and you are beautiful inside AND OUT. Your hair did not define you and your inner spirit was finally allowed to breathe! Thank you for sharing both your journey's! Namaste!

    Hey I had to chop my hair due to an appendectal tumor. Those same sorta sobs came out of me but I am sure you agree coming into your own without the shield of hair is so liberating.

    I just binged watched your videos. You are a special human with a bright and vibrant soul. I respect your journey so much and I feel solidarity with you in terms of shedding parts of who you are, releasing your ego, redefining, reimagining, recreating yourself as many times as you are compelled to do so in your own time and on your own terms. Thank you! Please feel free to stay in touch if you desire

      Jaye cliff no I mean they must have known that they would’ve had to shave off their hair if they caught lice which they did

    • @amberdean374
      @amberdean374 5 лет назад +4

      You don’t have to shave your hair if you get lice with dreads. There’s tons of ways to treat your hair. Most people just assume you can’t or they just want to shave it to get rid of it and be done. I personally would shave mine too so I get it. My daughter caught it over the summer this year and luckily I didn’t catch it (this time anyways)

      Amber Gray yeah but the dead bodies of the lice and the eggs still stay there unless you comb them out, I would’ve shaved my head as well

    Thank you for making this video! I'm going through the same issue right now and I have a plan to go to Brazil this summer, and it's very hard to give up on dreads... So I've decided to get my long hair back and to curl up new dreadlocks before that time. Lices suck, but they inspired you to make a great video, and I wish no person in the world have them. Thank you for being open with this issue and sharing it. You guys are amazing. Greeting from Ukraine.

    It has been nearly a year since I cut mine and it was only recently that I stopped longing for them in the inner recesses of my mind. I wasn't ready to let go of mine when I did it. Now I don't regret it and am happy with my curls, but damn I was in a struggle months and months after.

But I'm kind of glad that you lost your dreads cuz I wasn't on a dread Journey I just loved you guys so much and I think it's nice that I'll be able to watch your videos for other reasons not just for dreads. Maybe some more jewelry videos or just some more blogs. Either way I wish you guys the best and blessings and happiness

You are such a strong woman to not only endure that challenge, but to find the blessing through it and create a new version of yourself. Your hair doesn't define you. You are beautiful inside and out! ❤❤❤
