What backpacking camping hiking cook set or cook system should I get or buy. Best budget ultralight cooking system for the backcountry. Budget titanium pot for cooking. Best backpacking stove. Most ultralight cook set for camping.
I just use a JetBoil. Works like a champ. if I were going UL, then the Toaks+BRS would be a great combo.
One of the exact setups we have with the 550 and brs. The main one we use when my wife and I go together is a taoks 1100 mol with a lg canister and a Soto windmaster ❤️
Pete Davison's homeless brother is doing alright. Good for him
Bro whaaat hahahaha
I'd rather be homeless than live in NY.
Deff John Krasinskys brother
This the dude from TRL
I just spit my coke out . 😂 thanks
Over the years, I have more or less finalized my cooking system to a 1100ml TOAKS Ti pot with a "mid-size" Campingmoon XD stove. The 1100 ml size allows me to throw in a full pack of instant noodle without breaking it, my favorite treat during backpacking, and the Campingmoon stove works a loooot better at high elevations than BRS. Anyway, these are all, including BRS, Chinese companies and great products from China, i.e., low price - LOL!
You want to store your gas can upside down or it will rust with the little of water left down in the pot. :)
This, yes…👆
Waypoint survival has 25 hacks for the Stanley 2 cup cook set. You can nest stainless steel mugs, fuel cans, stoves and all kinds of things. We have one in each of our vehicles in our emergency kits.
Hey Dan I am trying to catch up on my Vloggers. I just finished a 111.1 mile hike on the Batona Trail through the Pine Barren's of NJ. It was sponsored by Outdoors Vitals and without the technics that they laid out I would not have finished. The weather was brutally hot and humid. My goal was to do 80 miles the years I was turning 80 and was able to check it off. God Bless
I can JUST fit in my toaks 750ml pot, a canister, a stove (kovea) and also a small wildo folding cup. Put the cannister upside down.
I didn’t know Pete Davidson was into camping
Unfortunately, the Stanley kit now costs $25.
I have the Toaks 550 and 650 in the 95mm diameter. Including their lids the 550ml is 67.1g and the 650ml 72.3g, so the 18% added volume is 8% more weight. So if volume is not as critical then arguably the bigger pot is more flexible, you can put stuff within the pot (e.g. towel to also reduce rattling and dry pot).
If you were looking at 2-pot system, such as to drink+eat then plenty of other good options, the smallest being the Toaks 550ml 103mm diameter fits outside the Toaks 550 or 650. The next size up is the Toaks 900 115mm can fit the 550 90mm or the 550 103ml within, or even the 650 90mm within if you ditch it's lid.
I love all those camping hiking stoves n pots but i ended up carrying a 3500w stove and a 6inch pan,pot combo cus when i go hike or camping im constantly foraging or if theres a lake i fish
Exactly what I carry, but I have an Optimus Crux stove.
Toakes 750ml pot and my trusty Soto Windmaster.
How is the windmaster? I have a Toaks 750 plus pocket rocket and does the job well for me
What is the bigger stove that u use in that video called? 😁
Man...... Carson Daily really fell off. Went from hosting MTV's TLR to playing with stoves in his garage! Kidding! 😂 I'm a collector myself and at one point unofficially had the largest MSR Model line collection known. 200+ stoves at one time.
How would this work at 10,000+ feet in the eastern sierras with 30+ mph winds ?
Nothing beats a jet boil for that
Stanley pot and BRS3000T for the win. Almost as indestructible as a Trangia setup but not quite as heavy.
Just heaaaaaavy
I love my Toaks cook set too. Pro tip: put the stove and lighter in first then the gas canister. The bottom of the gas can is concave and give more room than putting things on the convex top. It has allowed me to throw the cleaning towel in there too.
Aren’t you that one actor?
I like the Vargo Bot series because the lids screw on and keeps the whole kitchen contained. (lid also functions as a cup) Fuel, stove, lighter, cloth, and foil all fit in their 700ml version.
Yes, Toaks 750, but with the bail handle. Makes a great stove and fire pot then.
I use the long side swing handles Toaks for this reason. The bail handle would be even better
Does anyone know of a cook pot that fits a Coleman C500 cartridge
Toaks makes a 650ml pot
The BRS stove is the GOAT. That said, it's a glorified paperclip with a valve lol
Currently those Stanley pots are £55 in the UK on Amazon the only retailer I can find last year they were £28 I can get a 750ml titanium pot from Aliexpress for £18, I was waiting for a price reduction on the Stanley pot then it when up lol, I think they have low stocks possibly.
I got a stainless steel very thin wall cup from the flea market...$1....2 oz, lighter than titanium. Holds a small fuel canister in it as well. Here's the truth, you've been scammed..... Titanium is not light..... It's just expensive. Because it has to be thicker to be strong enough. You can make thin wall stainless steel stuff that is lighter than the titanium you get.
I recommend using an alcohol puck by vargo.
I own this, but I nest a Nalgene bottle inside of it. The 32oz plastic or 38oz metal bottle each fit snuggly into it. I don't use a gas stove, since I camp not backpack.
The Toaks 500 will fit a small Optimus canister and the foldable Optimus Crux. So you can have power and light-weight.
My favorite lightweight kit is still the SnowPeak Solo set. Will fit a small canister and Gigapower stove. Or 2 small canister. And is has the pot/cup combo that just works.
What hoody is that?
Yeah titanium is nice and light but I hate drinking coffee out of it. Gotta have my Pathfinder stainless cup and lid, love that thing, so versatile.
I challenge you to cook anything better on that expensive jetboil than i can on a $5 ozark trail stainless steel camping cup.
Fuel cans sometimes smell like the gas it puts out would you say it’s okay to store it in a container that’s being used to boil water for consumption?
I use the Pocket Rocket 2 with my Stanley and Ozark 18 oz cup for everything :)
Or buy a Toaks sister company pot for less than half the price of a Toaks pot.
what size fuel canister will fit in the toaks 750ml pot?
Whats a good midsize bang for the buck stove?
Cheap? Where? I have the 750 ml.. but not cheap.
I can only use the Stanley pot to boil water and nothing else?
New sub
Get snow peak. It’s made in Japan not China.
i can tell you dont do this very much 😂
I just use good old fashioned square mess tins . I get my folding stoves and alcohol burners in there with a opinel and cutlery ,washing up liquid pot spunge everything .
All you can do with these little round pots is make tea. You can't fry steak or bacon and sausage for breakfast or anything.
Bro, I've been on that 750ml life for years! With an fancy feast alcohol stove though.
Nice those stoves are sick. But not using a windscreen and having the water heat up 10 times quicker is worth it for a canister stove. And I really like the fancy feast stove.
@@DJ-kg6zq that's fair, I actually have grown to like the down time the fancy feast stove creates, makes me take a proper break. Also, I have a wind screen for mine, toaks wind screen pressed flat and cut to a more usable size! 😜 Hey to be fair I can't knock other systems, becuse I have jet boil and a pocket rocket hiding in my gear closet too. 🤣
Dan, don't know why you keep banging on about the heavy Toaks 750ml, when the Toaks Light 650ml pot is much lighter and the best pot Toaks make. And it's still big enough to take a 100g gas canister, the BRS3000T, a windshield, a spoon, a folding spork, a lighter and a cap for a Wildo Fold a Cup.
Youre the head off John Krasinski
(Irish talk for, you look like john krasinski, its not an insult)
You look like Jim halpert
Dan, some of us (maybe 5% of the world right now) want something that you can put on a camping fire without burning your fingers when boiling. Thus the Stanley looks great long handle, or you could just use any of the sizes MSR Alpine pot : guaranteed NOT to burn you hands, fingers etc.
I really want to have one but i cannot afford. Everything is too expensive here in the Philippines especially outdoor equipments. I love outdoor camping but I can't afford. 😊
I used to use Jetboil but I recently switched over to Soto Stove and I’m not looking back.
Walmart has a knockoff now... the GSI 20 fluid ounce. Claims it weights 73g but it came in at 83g for me. Was $15 couldn't help but try it out
That Stanley pot sucks. I have it and the BRS. it takes forever to boil water. Probably because of the width to height ratio.
Get yourself a colapsable pot and put a lighter in it. Works with every fuel and if u don't have fuel dig a tiny hole and put some coals in it. This titanium one is only the best if u plan to carry around those fuel tanks. It's actually not as easy to find in the US as it should be. They mostly sell the big green LT ones.
This guy would probably have something inside die if he saw me backpacking with my MSI dragonfly.
I've got the BRS and the 750ml toaks and it leaves me enough room for a fuel can stabilizer in my kit
Absolutely horrible pot, it only serves as a boiler. If you try to fry anything with oil on it, you WILL burn it.
I run a Toaks 650. It fits the small fuel canisters, but NOT the large cansiters. I use the BRS, have never tried fitting a WhisperLight Stove in the 650.
So far, I love the 650 and the BRS works great for me.
OK, but it worms
I have a 750ml titanium pot, I switch out the stove depending on whether I'm bringing my kids or not. I'll bring the pocket rocket 2 to be more fuel efficient when boiling for everyone, but if it's just me I'll bring the ole brs to shave a lil weight
Another cool thing is the silicone Jetboil Zip lid will fit the 750ml pot, so you dont need the pouch to keep ur lid put and can drink from a hot mug without burning ur lips
Nothing compares to the toaks 750/pocket rocket combo. At least, nothing I can put on my back.
Where do i get one?
Love my Stanley one. Goes camping and on wildfire assignments. Mostly for coffee and dehydrated meals works perfectly
You might think I'm lying, but there are other brands of titanium pots, cheaper too ! ! !
It should be noted only a 100g (4oz) isobutane bottle will nest inside these toaks pots. the 8 oz ones won't fit (duh)
Dan,
I've been rocking that 550 setup for a while now! I added in a p52 can opener to the kit to make it complete! Ty for the practical suggestions
Dude when TF did Carson Daily stop MTV and start camping?
I’m glad someone showed this trick. I accidentally found this several years ago and I felt like I broke the system rules. 😮
Nah, the swedish Trangia with the gas burner is my holy grail of cooking set
Is this the brs stove which seems to sell for $5-25 from AliExpress??
Using the Stanley. Just wish the fuel can didn't fit so tight.
I have I need a much smaller cup so I use a 200ml one. So tiny, so lightweight and takes seconds to boil water.
Having issues hearing the names of the pots. What are they and do you have a link? Please and thank you
I have the 750ml toaks pot and it’s been the most reliable for years!!
Never seen this channel I thought Carson daily was getting into self reliance scene 😂
I didn't know the guy from "the office" went camping so much.
I have the Toaks 750ml and the BRS stove it is Awesome and light weight.
This guy is a schill these days. Nothing wrong with that.
i have the smaller stove and its AWSOME.....
I've been using one of those Stanley pots with my pocket rocket since 2012, love it!
Why does no one talk about esbit stoves? They're super simple and lightweight.
Stinky
They stink
Because the flame goes out if it’s not flat calm. Learned that one the hard way…
I have a snowprsk pot and stove and do the same thing for years
Can the 8oz isobutane fit inside the cup?
can u use fire instead?
Haha. Already got all 3 man. Light weight ftw
Love your short videos on RUclips, keep it up!!
yep!! 750ml is the way to go :)
*laughs in three rocks and woodfire*
MSR is a decent alternative to jetboil as well
I have a toaks 750 and a soto windmaster
I just bought one of those today!
I have the 750 and the BRS. Great combo.
Dude I use this with my PRD * i didnt know the fuel can would fit, WTF! Im gonna go try it right now lol
It fits thats crazy lol
Get some.
👍
You lost all credibility at "..jetboil."
"If you want to eat freeze dried meals constantly, like all you eat on trips being freeze dried meals, just constantly, on multi day hikes, if you want shotgun diarrhea, which is fine cuz you hike near a river so you can replenish that electrolyte..
Get this compact setup fellas!."
You could get a dehydrator (lots of air fryers have a dehydrate option also) and make your own food. You can dehydrate meat sauces, applesauce with frozen veggies makes great fruit leather (roll ups), shredded potatoes with onions and bell pepper / jalapenos, all kinds of stuff. Oh, and get some ghee. Butter with no refrigeration!
I usually just build a small fire pit. Works just fine and it literally weighs nothing and you never run out of fuel.
I like a good Dakota fire pit. I keep a little titanium gasifier stove in my pot cause it's just easier than digging. Frees up time for other things
Toaks - produced in Israel
No purchase.
Toaks are Chinese made.
If toaks were made in Israel 🇮🇱 I would definitely buy them instead of Snow Peak which I own now.
Why do people put the dirty canister in there pot😫 just grinding and bouncing metal on metal. what are people thinking! Ingesting metal or having to thoroughly wash your pot before every meal is dumb. I doubt anybody uses soap and washes it out correctly.
many wrap their canisters in a bandana to counteract exactly that, and can double as a hot potholder (briefly)
